  1. I noticed the same thing....Let's face it....Jimi is most closely associated with a Strat..... Clapton has had a multitude of guitars over the years.
  2. When I was working in Kalamazoo, I went to "The Museum Of Sound" there..... a lot of Gibson history there, along with Heritage Guitars, (built by Gibson luthiers after Gibson closed down the factory there). I recall I was working in a bus shop in the night..... a bus was brought in early because someone shot a window out while it was on it's route..... made me realize I shouldn't go out at night there!
  3. Funny.... I was in the October, 1966 issue of Newsweek Magazine.... one of our old managers had a Zerox copy of the article. Glad we just talked about this....I ordered an old copy of Newsweek, October, 1966....cost me $45, but I dind't have one.
  4. October, 1966 I was making national news....
  5. Well....to keep this "Guitar Related", I'll be playing my Gibson Hummingbird 12-String learning Dave Mason's "We Just Disagree" during the eclipse! (we don't want Cammo to get all butt-hurt!)
  6. Yeah....we KNOW! At least now you've figured out that yellow goes to the front and brown goes to the rear!
  7. lessee...... 1967? I graduated High School (Summer of Love in SF!).
  8. Yeah....but I bought it years ago! Shoot....I've got liver spots older than 57!
  9. Maybe it was YOU ... I had them keep your mitts off my new 'Bird!
  10. Guitar center has always been good to me..... I usually buy remote.... don't usually go into a store to 'shop'. Bought my DIF from GC in SF....never went there....when I got it....it was PERFECT! Bought my 'Bird from GC in SJ....told them over the phone to put it away so no 14 year-old put their grimy mitts on it and scratch it up.... I went to the store there to pick it up and it was PERFECT! I bought a Fender Passport PA System from a GC on the East Coast.... it was PERFECT! I got my J-50 (GILLIG Staff bought it for me) from a GC in Washington.....it was PERFECT! Not sure how they could have done better.
  11. Many years ago I bought my son and (at that time) D-I-L a matching pair of Epi Black guitars....one was a Dove the other was a Hummingbird. I think the price was $350 for each....I bought them hardshell cases...... Couch straps.....tuners..... picks..... was probably just over $425 each, (brand-new), when I gave them to them.....they're pretty nice guitars, (I made a couple of videos with them before I gave them to them (Christmas). Of course, the ex-D-I-L took hers.... probably ended up in a pawn shop somewhere.... my son still has his....I got a professional set-up on it. If price is a consideration, they really aren't bad. I seriously doubt my Gibson Dove and Gibson Hummingbird are ten times better....they ARE better....but not 10 times!
  12. I've played my B-I-L's J-160e many times....it's a great guitar. He got is specifically for the "Beatle Sound", (He was in several "Tribute" bands.). Gibson makes several cut-aways. I thought there was a direct link to Gibson Guitar models somewhere on this forum. Good luck. I'm so sorry to hear about your wife of many years....may she Rest In Peace with no more illness.
  13. Or a slide guitar.....not sure I've ever seen a 12-String slide guitar before.
  14. Dang! It says the video is not available....I was looking forward to your arrangement.
  15. What's the option? Turn it into a harp?
  16. When I was first married, my mother-in-law would have me go downtown to a drug store.... go to the prescription counter....ask for "Johnny". Johnny would give me a plain brown paper bag with "something" in it.....I didn't know what it was (still don't), no money exchanged hands....but my M-I-L said just get it and leave immediately.
  17. Oh, quit flattering us!
  18. Nice guitar..... I hope you keep it.
  19. When I was a kid, I used to sneak my dad's paperbacks when he was finished.....some of them made "Catcher In The Rye" seem pretty tame!
  20. I've only had this one...and it is certainly quieter than my J-50.(mahogany). I've discovered that for whatever reason, I tend to do all my fingerpicking (not much) on my old Jubilee...not sure why....it's mahogany, but smaller than the dreds.
  21. Oh...and thanks for mentioning my videos. They're really not for "presentation" as much as "documentation". I hope my grandkids will someday recognize the effort.
  22. I'm not sure about comparing Koa to Rosewood.... I need to try a good Rosewood guitar to see.
  23. Lars, you know I have the Koa. I've had it for 13 years....and it REALLY opened up after 7-8 years. The neck is wider than my Doves, and with the short scale, is wonderful to play and gives me the perfect backing for my (awful) singing. The Hummingbird 12-String is a monster.... will drown out the Doves without even trying....but that could be because of the extra 6 strings....it's mahogany and was well opened up before I got it from Leslie. If you want to be heard in a acoustic jam....then a Dove is what you should choose. Maple, long scale....both of mine are VERY aggressive and used to being played HARD.
