No one is going to gig this it is for dudes with $ that hang guitars on their wall.

No one is questioning how nice a guy he is. It’s art yeah. Guitars were meant to be played. Picasso’s and Dali’s were meant to be gauwked at.

The one on the wall is probably just a cheap EPI copy, or even a Chipson fake-lookalike.
And the real one? It's put in a case in then into the original cardboard box... and stored in a secure place, like in the movie excerpt below.

    I went.

Spent four days there. I had a great time. Saw lots of amazing guitarists and other musicians.

Met some pedal builders too.  Since that was what I was looking for, I got to try a lot of different pedals.

Met Matteo Mancuso also.  Talk about an amazing guitarist.  Check out these videos.  Be sure and watch his right hand technique.  Simply out of this world.

Out of this world! Not even Nostradamus saw it coming. 🤓
(Prediction: 5 years from now, everyone will be doing it this way.)

On  My Sweetwater wish list is a Walnut J 45. Today I noticed a price drop of $500. My first reaction is: why? Would anyone have a plausible idea why.

I’m tempted to jump on this, even though I can’t afford to.

The prices are not supposed to be at "suggested retail price", which was an anomaly, due to lack of supply, not only of guitars, but of all other goods. This lack of supply is a direct consequence of 2 years of COVID, where factories were closed, supply-chains fell apart, etc.

Now things are starting to normalize, retail prices should come down to like 10-15% below the suggested retail price, at least for normal non-Custom shop guitars. So nothing to panic about!

  4. I know it's bad manners to bring up old, forgotten threads like this, but I did follow up on the Thomann website, to see how the new Gibson hollowbodies are flying in good ole forgotten Europe. And yep, they're are actually flying. Even though they're not in stock yet, the Byrdland and the Super400 are gone. Only the Citation at around €23,000 is still there, to be "available in a few months".

Sadly he passed away several years ago. His car went off the road in California.

His first few albums were all instrumental.

Aerial Boundaries is insane. I have it on vinyl.

I don’t think Jimi Hendrix could pull off what Micheal was doing. Maybe but . . .

Haha, I watched GIMME SHELTER from a YouTube concert, he first broke a string, restrung & tuned the guitar and started playing... I still keep thinking, it was a Grand Funk Railroad song originally. You know, some of us can't sing like even if nobody is around. Gotta have great respect for real artists like Michael Hedges! (and Jimmy Page of course)

Michael Hegdes did crazy stuff of acoustic guitars too. Remember him?

    Thanx for this, Sgt. Pepper!
I never heard this guy, or of this guy before. Just checked "Woman of the World" by Michael Hedges from some concert. He can sing and play the acoustic, very artistic. Those left-hand fingerings are really something, as far as I can see. 😎

  7. I had to look this one up.😀

    Alex González (musician)
Alejandro González Trujillo (born February 24, 1969) is an American musician of Cuban and Colombian extraction. He is the main drummer and songwriter for the Mexican band Maná and metal band De La Tierra. He is nicknamed "El Animal" and has sung lead vocals on several songs, such as "Me Vale".

  8. No, that is the function of the selector. It implements a route for the electric signal. (so we have 3 different routes. When the neck PU is selected, the bridge PU is offline and its generated signal is bypassed)

Advice: don't ever leave a finger in  that toaster. 😁

I purchased a new G-45 studio and the setup was horrible with the buzz actually muting the B & E strings. The guitar shop could not adjust it out and said to send it back to Gibson.  I contacted Gibson 4 times with no reply. Now, I’m stuck with a new $1,000. Guitar I can’t use. I found Gibson will not stand behind their products. I own a songbird deluxe which is a good guitar and the G45 studio was to be a practice guitar. Do not buy this guitar, the necks have problems and warranty is no good.

The retailer is the one who should take care of the warranty.
Did you go to Gibson's website and register the guitar?

  10. There was a video series "Gibson: The Process" where Jim DeCola spoke on this difference of 50s and modern construction techiques. What he said is "they're different, but it doesn't mean one is better than the other". This goes specifically for the "long tennon" debate. We all accept that, he knows what he's talking about.

As far as pricing goes... Gibson is like any other responsible producer. It sells its products for the prices it can get. Meaning, that if anything is "overpriced", people will not buy it.  So they have to adjust their pricing exactly to where they think the market will buy it. Otherwise there'd be surplus and huge discounts at retail shops.

I think Gibson is doing a mighty fine job on everything like its products, pricing, quantities, quality & they even have great videos on YouTube. Just like all the other guitar companies. You have to build great stuff and sell it for a decent price, or you will go out of business. That's the beauty of the free market.😎

  11. I did some hollowbody-hunting, and guess what I found? A time-forward reference for Gibson Citation, Byrdland and Super 400, coming "in a few months". I never had any of those in my hands, but I see some of the great guitarists played them for real. This is from Thomann's website and they posted some great photos of each of the models. Even the prices are not being kept secret by anybody. (add 15% to get the price in Euros). 🤠

No, I did not buy a new or used Martin. No Zappa or Beatles, either.

I was in GC in North Myrtle Beach, and I saw hanging on the wall and UNLOCKED was a $7499 Tom Murphy light aged '59 (but let's be real, it was a 2023) LP. Well hell yeah I'm gonna be a 16 year old, and play the most expensive guitar in the joint. At first glance, it actually looked okay. It had a few chips of paint off of it, and the entire guitar had lacquer checking.  Still seeing one up close I am still not a fan of fake aging. Now to the nuts and bolts. The guitar sounded really killer. It was set up really nice. This was a new one and not a used one. The worst thing about the guitar was the neck was really sticky. The salesman even stopped and talked to me for a few mins, and he said that it was the only thing he didn't like other than the price. After that I played a 2k LP. It was a great guitar, but the other did feel and sound better except for the sticky neck. Then I played a ES-335. Killer guitar. Was not a fan of how skinny it was up at the nut. My BB King was not like that.

So they are nice, but even if I loved it, I could not justify a guitar that costs about 6 of my house payments. 2 house payments if you live in California.

I wouldn't have guessed in a million years. But, yeah, good move!

They look good & they sound good in the Video Studio.. They’re a couple hundred bucks higher than a 65 PRRI & a 65 DRRI… I thought the Falcon 5 should be 12 Watts & have Tremolo for that price..

I thought they’d be a couple hundred less to get those Amps out there on Bands back lines!

The handwired Princeton and Deluxe are double the mexican-made price, so like $2400 and $2700.
In Europe, the USA handwired Deluxe is like €2900 at Thomann.

  14. The amps are here!
Falcon 5 and Falcon 20. They sound great, and the prices are exactly where they sould be.  Someone should post a video in a new thread. I will post it here...😎
