  1. Looking for information regarding my recently purchase for a 2009 Firebird. I would like to know when they were first introduced, and the number made each year they were produced.
  2. Looking for information regarding my recently purchase for a 2009 Firebird. I would like to know when they were first introduced, and the number made each year they were produced.
  3. I have been using Gibson or Elixer 12's on my two SJ-200's. Always sound great on them both.
  4. I recently purchased a 2011 Gibson SJ-200 Standard, and was wondering the material used for the nut and saddle. The color is light brown, where all my other guitars with bone material are white or bleached white. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. My very first Gibson acoustic guitar was a 1964 J-50, and I loved that guitar. After playing many $25.00 guitars at the time, that Gibson was the best sounding and easy to play guitar. I have had many Gibson guitars after that one (about 20), but that one was one of my best.
  6. I thought my new virus protection blocked this site. Glad to see it is up and running again.
  7. Mine has the Sunburst on the back, the neck, and the sides also.
  8. I never purchased a new guitar, all have been used. But I always use the D'Addario two- way hydration packs as soon as I receive them. They are advertised as a two -way system, if too damp, they absorb the moisture in to the packets, if too dry, they add moisture. I check my guitars all the time, and they are always between 44-50 % hydrated. Very simple to use, just replace the bags every 3-4 months, or when they become hard. I live in Georgia if this helps. This is the best system I have used in 50 years keeping my guitars hydrated.
  9. All I remember about the Norlin era guitars was that you could tell the era by the binding all began to chip and break along the edges. I never owned any of the Norlins so I can't say how they sounded, or played My first Gibson was a 1964 J-45, and after that it was a 1990 Dove manufactured out of the Bozeman facility. I've been owning and playing the Bozeman guitars ever since.
  10. I like you fell in love with my 1990 Dove that I purchased in 1991. I paid $1,175 with tax and never regretted the purchase. My son at the time was a teenager and been in many bands at that time loved the sound and playability of that guitar. I tried a Hummingbird first, and I was not impressed. It could have been not a good representative of the model, but as soon as I played a couple of songs on the Dove, I was sold. All the guitar players in my son's bands loved it too. It became the envy of everyone who played it. I had a stroke back in 2011, and had to stop playing her. But up till that time, I played her for a couple of hours every day after work. It definitely got better with age the 20 years I played her. My grandson will inherit next February when he turns 18. It is still in great shape because of the care I had given her through out the years. It is one of the seven Tabaco burst manufactured in 1990. There is absolutely no finish checking in the finish, just a bunch of dings in the finish. It is still in great shape for a thirty year guitar.
  11. With me it was the left fingers that would tire out first. I started out playing drums for a couple of years before picking up the guitar, so I had plenty strength and rhythm in my right arm. The body on the J-200 was always slipping out of my lap lap also. The Doves just nested in my lap , and the 1 .75 length of the nut made the strings close enough to play barre cords with ease. Like I said, I have small hands and could play for hours in my prime..
  12. I may be not an expert on the subject, but I am partial to the Doves. I have owned five during my fifty years plus playing guitar, and it is a great strumming instrument in my opinion. I have given away three of them to a close friend and two relatives, and the two I will keep to my dying day. I owned a 1995 J-200 in the past, and it sounded great. The body of it did not allow me to get comfortable with her, and the neck width and neck thickness was to great for me to get comfortable with it. I c could play a couple of songs on it, and would get very tired playing it with my small hands. Mind you, it was a great sounding instrument, but fighting with the body size and the neck were too much for me to wrestle with. The Doves were the right body size and neck for me to play for hours and hours. I sold the J-200 to a guy on the west coast, and the two Doves I am keeping are a 2004 Doves in Flight (my favorite ), and a 2016 Quilted Limited Edition model. I hope in some small way this helps in your decision in with which model to choose. Remember you have to be comfortable playing her. JMHO
  13. I have owned and played a J-200, a Dove, and a Hummingbird. The two guitars that I still own to this day is a 2006 Doves in Flight, and a 2016 Limited Edition Dove Quilted maple guitar. I played my first Dove back in 1991, and have been in love with them ever since.
  14. It is completely a Gibson Doves in Flight. I own a 2006 Doves in Flight, and it looks exactly like the one you are purchasing. Note of interest: The designer of that pick guard (Ren Ferguson) placed his initials R F directly under the large Dove on the pick guard. Good luck with your purchase. The Doves in Flight is the best sounding of all the 5 Doves I have owned in the past.
  15. Mine too. Best sounding and ease to play of all my past and present Doves.
  16. Me too. I've owned several in the past, and present. They sound beautiful.
  17. I like you have loved the Gibson dreads for a number of years. It started back in 1967 when I first started playing my 1964 J-45. My next was a 12 string Gibson Jubilee that my girl at the time, and now my wife bought me in 1970. My next was a 1990 Dove that I purchased in 1991. My next one was a 2018 Limited Edition Dove that I still own. My next one was a 1977 Dove that I gave to my nephew as a gift for his service in the Air Force. My next was a 1973 Dove that I gave to my son's friend as a gift. My next one was a 2014 Quilted maple Hummingbird that I soled recently. My next was a 2016 Limited Edition Quilted maple Dove that I still own. My last purchase was 2006 Doves in Flight. The 1990 Dove will be given to my grandson on his 18-th Birthday. The 2016 Quilted Dove and the Doves in Fight are my keepers for life. As you can see, once I owned my first Gibson, I was always a Gibson man.
  18. I currently or have owned 5 doves in the past, and this by far is the most beautiful and best sounding of them all. I have seen where Gibson produced 144 Doves in Flight in 2006, but all the years before and after a mere 7 to 12 a year. As soon as I can take pictures and post them. you will see just a beauty my purchase was. My previous Doves were a 1973, 1977, 1990, 2016, and 2018. I am keeping my Limited Edition 2016 Quilted maple and my 2006 Doves in Flight, but currently selling my Limited Edition 2018 Dove. (If interested) If anyone can tell me how to post pictures, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  19. I currently own a 1990 Tobacco burst Dove that I purchased in the summer of 1991. The orange label states it was manufactured in the Bozeman facility. This guitar was idolized by all my son's Band mates in the nineties and through the twenties. I passed along this guitar to my son, and with his passing back in 2015 the guitar will be handed down to his son on his 18-th Birthday next year. The guitar is still in great shape, with absolutely no finish checking. I know, since I just replaced the HumidiPaks last week. I must say for the twenty years I got to play her, she was the best sounding guitar I ever owned. I have owned a Ovation Legend, Hummingbird, J-45, J-50, a12-string Gibson Jubilee, and a multitude of non descript guitars from my youth. None Of those ever played as great sounding and ease to play as my 1990 Dove.
  20. I just purchased a 2006 Gibson Doves in Flight, and I was wondering when the Bozeman facility first started producing them for sale. Thanks very much if you have any information to my question.
  21. I am glad to say my 1990 Dove being held at a courthouse for my grandson to inherit next year, and it has no checking. I went to place the D'Addario HumidiPaks in her yesterday, and the finish looked as good as the day it went in to their vault. This guitar has the "Tobacco Sunburst" and would show any signs of checking. I am very pleased how the finish has held up for the 31 years.
  22. Does any one know the year Gibson stopped making the Dove model in production. I know the Dove was made in Limited Editions for a few years, but I don't know the year they stopped offering the Dove in their sales brochures. Any information to this question will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  23. There are many Dove Limited Editions. I own two of them. 1. Is a 2018 Limited Edition dove where they produced 100 all Alpine White front, back, and sides. I own this model of approximately 150 Antique White top, with Cherry Flamed maple back and sides. 2. My other Dove is a 2016 Heritage Sunburst Quilted maple back and sides. This one I believe is 1 of 50 made. This one is my beauty, and will keep it until the day I die. I'm not sure if it was one of fifty built for Tonewood's Guitars though. Both of my Limited Editions can be seen on "You Tube" as 2018 Limited Dove, and also my beautiful 2016 Dove Quilted maple. The one posted is my actual guitar that I purchased from the original owner. I might add there are many models listed as "Limited Editions" where a "big guitar" sales company books for build with their specifications, but don't hold me to that. Just something I heard doing my own search on "Limited Editions"
  24. Down here in Atlanta I have been using the "Humidi" packs with great success. I have tried the sponge in the soap case, and the Music Nomad sound hole humidifiers in the past. I have since been using the Humidi packs for the past several years, and I only need to change them out every 3-4 months once they get hard .
  25. I love my Doves too. I am currently down to the two mentioned in my post, but owned three more since. I owned a 1973, 1977, and a 1990 previously. I have also owned two J-45's, one J-200, and a Hummingbird. I also owned a 1970 Gibson 12 string Jubilee in my younger days.
