  1. Thanks for your reply, I eventually found another guy who owned one in the past and gave me some hints about the materials. RE the Floyd Rose you are right, once you get tuned it has a lot of stability, so you get rid of the infamous G string issue of LP, However Floyd Rose bridges are really tedious to tune, especially if you want to switch into another tuning, such as dropped D, each time you change the tension on one string you have to retune all 6 strings and it is a sort of iterative procedure, even the small change matters. I recently solved by inserting a damper on the springs cavity, now the floyd rose is stiffer but it's no problem to me, after all I am not Steve Vai 😄 And yes, I am enjoying playing it, it may be strange but it's still a Gibson Les Paul 😉 Regards, Andrea
  2. I eventually found some information, fun when you are searching on the net for months (years) and then suddenly you get a lot of info: So basically it seems it has standards LP materials: Mahogany for back and neck and maple top (really? it's fully painted so why use different materials?) then I found a Custom Lite at this link https://guitarchimp.com/products/1989-gibson-les-paul-custom-lite-metallic-sunset-with-original-floyd-rose-rare it reports ebony fretboard and for pickups: SW-5 Sidewinder / L-8 Humbuckers I guess are the same as mine. If all above are correct one question remains to me, how rare is it? I am not asking for a quotation, although it would be interesting to know, I don't want to sell it as it has a sentimental value to me. Regards, Andrea
  3. Hi, I am new to the forum, and I would like to share with you some pics of my strange guitar. This is a repost of the same topic on the "Gibson USA" area, sorry for the duplication, I did not realised that there was this specific section of the forum to ask for informations. It's a 1989 Les Paul Studio Lite with Floyd Rose. I know that it may look too weird for many of you, sorry about that. Serial number is 80429563 So it should be the 63th instrument built at Nashville on february 11th 1989 I noticed that is very difficult to find this model, wonder if you can provide me some more infos, which pickups? materials? I am also curious to know how much is the value, I am not a collector. If I could go back in time I would probably choose a different model but to me this guitar has an important sentimental value. Regards, Andrea
  4. update: I just found the confirmation: http://www.guitarhq.com/gibson.html#serial it was the first instrument made that particular day
  5. Hi, this seems to be the same 8 digits codification of my 1989 Les Paul Studio Lite. At that time I found the codification on a magazine. digits 1 and 5 are the manufacturing year 2,3 and 4 are the day of the year finally the last 3 digits are the progressive manufacturing number 001 to 499 was built in Kalamazoo 500 to 999 was bult in Nashville Taking your number 83141501 81 = 1981 year of manufacturing 314th day of 1981 = should be November 10th 1981 501 is the firs instrument built in Nashville, I guess it was on that day, not the very first one built in Nashville. my guitars S/N ends in 563 and I can't imagine that they built only 63 instruments in 8 years. Regards, Andrea
  6. Hi, Well, I really wanted to understand how much "unique" is, I am not a collector, just curious. That model came out in a particular period of late 80's , superfast shredder like Joe Satriani or Steve Vai were very popular and I guess my model was a try to get into that market. If I correctly decoded the S/N it was the 63rd guitar built on February 11th 1989 in Nashville The PUs are not active and the switch works as a splitter only for the bridge. And of course Floyd Rose is a nightmare, I wish I had so many online resources and tutorials on how to live peacefully with it as of today. I think that somehow my guitar is a sort of ancestor of the modern axcess line. Ah, I really like yours. Regards, Andrea
  7. Hello and Happy New Year from Italy. I am new to the forum, and I would like to share with you some pics of my strange guitar. It's a 1989 Les Paul Studio Lite with Floyd Rose. 8. Hi guys, Nice to meet you. I am from Italy and I am the proud owner of a 1989 Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite, it was a gift from my parents to appraise my results after getting the high school diploma... back in 1989, hence you can derive that I'm 50 ;) I restarted to play it after a long period. No bands, just myself playing on top of some tracks with headphones. I came upon this forum as I was looking for info regarding my Les Paul, it seems that 1989 Studio Lite is a very uncommon model. I suppose most of you are from USA, so just to avoid misunderstandings please note that Andrea in Italy is a male name. So if you chat with me be aware that I am not Jennifer Batten (not even as skilled as her) Ciao!
