  1. update - I swapped out all the pots with CTS 500k short shaft. I should have gone long shaft with a nut spacer as it was kinda tough starting the outside hex nut due to not enough threads protruding out the front of the guitar. I also swapped out the tone caps with AVX .022uf This mod cleaned up the muddiness and it now has nice smooth volume control and perfect tone adjust bass to treble. I think it was definitely worth the under $25 to upgrade. jack and switch work fine so no plan to change. pickups are fine i do not plan any changes other than I may remove the gold covers. This is now a solid and very playable guitar.
  2. Just got the custom recently. Quick review. weight - great just like my gibson 74 custom, about 10lbs finish - suprisingly clean and nice. feel - like a gibson except for the fretboard. Fretboard - kind rough, needs about a month of playing to break it in then felt nice, very playable. the ebony finish seems to rub off somewhat , maybe a dye issue, I wiped it down and restained it, now its good. pickups - nice but a little muddy, just need to adjust my amp mid and bass controls to fix it. tone control - from 9-0 treble reduces as expected, 9-10 has more bass?, i am replacing pots and caps. tuners, fine no issues. neck stability - fine, bridge saddle - fine no issues action - adjusted and plays like any gibson les paul. price - fantastic value, you see more guys playing these and keeping the 5x more expensive gibsons at home. buy another - yes, im looking at the Alex lifeson version
