  1. Hello I have one too, love it and I’m wondering which pickup to add. wh8ch one did you install? i also have a 50s lg2 reissue, but I replaced the under saddle with a m80 which I can take in and out easily. I kind of got used to the extra punch coming out of the magnetic pickup. i might do the same with my banner or maybe a hifi
  2. Dear forum, I ordered a new compensated bone saddle from Bob Colosi. It almost fitted my j45 TV perfectly, width n height just needed a bit of sanding. Tonewise the guitar became more articulate still keeping it's very warm tone and big bass.I didn't change the strings btw so I have a pretty accurate comparison of before n after. The high e-string became a tiny bit harsh (acoustically, no pick up installed , it stands a little out compared to the B and G. I was wondering if smoothening and rounding the edge (shoulder of the saddle towards the neck) would soften the tone of the e-string a bit. The edge of bobs compensated saddle is pretty sharp. The older saddle was a non compensated bone saddle with a round profile btw. It sounded great but I was always wishing the trebles a bit more present in fingerpicking. I was hoping to hear some of your thoughts .. and did anybody do that already ? All the best, Paul
  3. Thanks for your comments. After further research I found out that the 2014 Donovan special has different specs compared to the 2004 in question. the one I’m considering has no pickup and a 1 11/16 nut width. As a nice special it has a hand signed certificate from Ren Ferguson . also the table is more honey and not so cherry colored. here’s an ancient reverb ad with the same model. this one is the very first model of 27 in 2004 https://reverb.com/item/25675829-gibson-j45-historic-1-of-27-2004-mellow-yellow?utm_source=rev-ios-app&utm_medium=ios-share&utm_campaign=listing&utm_content=25675829 Here’s another older listing : https://reverb.com/item/29219090-gibson-historic-collection-1960s-j-45-donovan-mellow-yellow?utm_source=rev-ios-app&utm_medium=ios-share&utm_campaign=listing&utm_content=29219090 i think I give it a go. This might be a great pair with my advanced jumbo
  4. Hello, i don’t find much Information on the internet about this limited edition from 2004 historic collection. I would have the occasion to buy a very mint copy, but it’s not really next door. Does anybody own this beautiful guitar ?
  5. Hello Dear Forum, I had the occasion to play a Gibson Advanced Jumbo 2005 Demo Model in a local music store in Paris last week and was blown away by its resonance and thumb. I was not used to such a woody tone so far. It has some signs of use but all of it seems pretty aesthetic to me. The prize was still acceptable .. after two hours of reflection and a beer I couldn't resist and took her home. Didn't think I would fall for a long scale. all the best, Paul
  6. Hmm did you have the chance to play them? i would say 50s is a more safe choice. I had a so/so experience with my j45TV wasn’t too crazy about the non aged Adirondack top and heard quite some comments from people trying strings over and over to get their Adi guitars sound softer and fuller.
  7. I would swear it’s the exact same guitar. the un regular grain stripes of the table are at the same positions. The different lighting condition makes it appear a little darker on the right side photo. congrats to this amazing beauty
  8. Thank you. I also read some good comments about the lyrics pickup
  9. thanks for the alert for the volume wheel ! I'll definitely pay attention.
  10. cool thanks I just ordered a bone saddle there. I'll keep you informed, but I'm pretty sure I'll take the UST out
  11. Thank you for the response, I just edited the post to make it more understandable 😉
  12. Hi thanks for your quick response ! my question was more about the acoustic improvement of the guitar itself. I rarely use the pickup.
  13. Happy new year dear forum! I have a nice sounding and very mellow 2018 Gibson southern jumbo. I’m hesitating to take out the LR baggs pickup. After what I heard many people say it improves the sound. How would you describe the improvements? Only louder .. more responsiveness .. brighter or mellower ? I want to change my tusq saddle for a compensated bone saddle too. Many thanks in advance
  14. Thank you ! I picket her up today. sounds really sweet. Just tightened the truss rod a bit (quater turn) so the neck is almost straight and that lowered the action a tiny bit. I guess it's right now. Anyway I'm super happy and thanks for your comments. Happy Friday from Paris
  15. And what about us ? Instead of submitting the OP https://www.gibson.com/Support/Report-Counterfeits i have the feeling we prefer to be sorry for him and arose him with tips and wish him enjoy this joke guitar lol. Remember it’s a Gibson website here i think we’d rather submit this post
  16. The whole thread would have wasted less time of the precious experts here if it would have been clear from the beginning that your seller sold you transparently a fake guitar. Why the suspense? i find it even weird to show off the fake guitar here in the forum. Counterfeit is obviously a big problem for Gibson, not very tasty to promote buying a nice sounding fake guitar here. If this would be a watch forum the reactions wouldn’t be a bit as nice. Sorry, just my opinion (as a newy here)
  17. Quick update here i met the seller yesterday. The guitar plays and sounds really well and looks fantastic. Action and neck relief are a bit on the high side but man this guitar resonates very well. i found another serial lookup website with a positive result so I should be fine to go https://www.guitarinsite.nl/serienummers-gibson_eng.php many thanks for your comments best paul
  18. Pick guard seems right to me though
  19. I don’t know .. but when you look the number up in https://www.guitardaterproject.org/gibson.aspx you usually get a match but this one shows “Serial number unrecognized, please verify that the serial number is correct. If it is still not recognized you can try one of the popular guitar forums and see if the experts there can help. ” that’s why I’m suspicious , also the prize seems a bit low to me
  20. Hello I came across a reasonable prized southern jumbo here in France today. Il suspicious because I cannot lookup the serial number that’s on the tag of the sound hole. It says no match found Would be keen to know if anybody experienced a fake on a modern SJ or similar Here’s the ad (in French) https://www.leboncoin.fr/instruments_de_musique/2049395455.htm Best wishes
