  1. AC30 is a killer amp. To me the most basic, bare bones amps tend to sound best; something without a master volume to start (although the AC30 has one). I am also knob averse so you can factor that into my comment. What kind of music do you play?

Nice guitar. Make sure you play a lot of amps to find the right one to make that beauty sing.

Vox AC30, wouldn't hesitate to try that one, plenty of balls and not weighed down with effects

  2. Your sons junior looks like a beauty! Glad he likes it! great to hear that it sounds great, does there appear to be any quality control problems that cheaper gibsons are notorious for? seeing pictures of yours has made me question my colour choice a little bit, that sunburst really looks stunning! i definitely will post some photos when mine arrives. merry christmas tim, hope you and your family have had a great one! :)

    thanks,

    Logan.

    Hi Logan,

as far as quality goes it is pretty good, I have seen some juniors in stores which have visible glue lines along the the fretboard (just where the fretboard is joined to the neck) but this one is is very good. Don't question your decision on the Yellow, my sons guitar already has a very minor scuff mark on the bottom of the body next to the socket. This is not major although it is to him, its just the nitro finish which I believe is very soft. I would expect your colour will be harder wearing for sure and have not doubt they look fantastic in that colour. He is going to try to put up a video on Utube as he was given a wah pedal for Christmas (the guitar was his gift to himself). The only hassle we have now is the case, the gig bag it came with is very tight and we bought a cheap Stagg case from our store but this is beginning to show signs of falling to bits. I think I will take it back on Wednesday when they reopen. It was the only case they had instore that it would fit into properly, I think we will go back to the Rockshop (closed agin due to the aftershocks yesterday!)as they have a good selection of cases(We are NOT spending $500 on a Gibson case ).I can imagine how you must be itching to get yours, keep in touch Logan,

    Regards,

    Tim

  3. Hey thanks man! No, im not in Nelson, i'm in Hamilton, but they told me that its coming from Nelson, so the one in nelson is the one im getting! have you seen it? did it look nice? :) Hope your son loves his junior, i'm really excited to get mine! we will definitely compare notes when they arrive, it arrives in hamilton on the 5th of jan for me to play and try out, but i'll be getting it sometime in late january because of the lay-buy arrangement.. [thumbup]

hey there, we are in ChCh and he got his yesterday, I dont play (too old and impatient to learn), sorry I haven't seen it but I am sure its very nice, we saw it on the Rockshop site(no photo) and he definitely wanted it, we had already got our local Music planet store to look into getting one in for us so we felt obliged to buy from there. They always give us a really good deal and got this vintage satin one in from the Gibson distributor in Melbourne. They sourced his G400 from there last year or the year before and the Gibson only took a week to come in from Aussie and then it arrived ex Auckland yesterday. We had some Schaller strap locks fitted today, he loves it and it sounds great. I will get him to add some comments in the next few days, look forward to some photos of yours when it arrives, have a good Christmas and we will talk soon,

    regards,

    Tim

  4. Hi,

I have no idea what brand knob this is... that was a knob I found in my "this & that" box with all kind of stuff in... it's some replacement knob I assume I bought here in Germany in an online shop... I am sorry I have no idea whether it would fit onto a Junior... I would think so... maybe you have to enlarge the hole of the knob a bit or squeeze the two bits on the axe of the pot a bit - very carefully.

    Greetings

    PIT... [smile]

thanks for the reply, have a great Christmas,

    regards,

    Tim

  5. GREAT collection... [thumbup]

    PIT...

hey there, I have a question about your knob! That bell knob on your profile pic, allparts USA have these on a local website, would they fit straight on to a new LP junior? (still waiting for delivery)

    Thanks

  6. I've got a few...

First is the Robot Les Paul Jr. Special, this pic was taken for the eBay Seller who sold me the freakin case (like he didn't know they didn't fit!). Case went back, got a full refund incl. return shipping. The Robot (Rosie) normally rests in a Gibson hard case (or the Proline rack).

Then there's the 50's Tribute Studios.... (I am guessing you've heard of these? [laugh])

Linda Lu (pre-flood) trying out Rosie's case

  7. I ordered a Satin Junior today from my local guitar shop. I got it in Satin Yellow, lucky i got in when i did because it was the last one in New Zealand. Really excited to get it, i will post photos when it arrives :D

hey well done, your not in Nelson are you? I saw the Rockshop had one in satin Yellow and they shipped it to the Nelson store. My son has a satin vintage coming hopefully tomorrow(if the freight company is not too far behind), will compare notes when they arrive,

    cheers,

  8. You'll find the P90 VERY bright in comparison to a humbucker. Given that the AC4 is bright by default you'll need to balance it out. At the end of the day, it's whatever floats your boat. My gigging amps are 'Rivera Era' Fenders (Concert 410/Deluxe Reverb II) which are also bright so I have the Junior's tone pot on about 8. Hope this helps. BTW I love the AC4!

Hi again, finally bit the bullet, the new LPJ should arrive just before Christmas, ordered one in Satin Vintage, cant wait...........,will try to post photos.

    Merry Christmas to all,

    My 2009 Junior.

Hey there, do you find the ac4 and the LPJ are a good couple? We have half the equation with the ac4 and plan on the lpj asap but just wanted your thoughts on the combination, on paper it seems like a great pairing.

    thanks,

  11. Hey there' date='

To me, no Gibson collection would be complete without a "junior" in it. They have a unique and distinct sound which I love and use a lot in my cover band; however, that being said.....

I am also into "variety" and having the flexibility to play a huge range of songs. To me, this means owning at least one Les Paul (Standard, Custom, Historic....doesn't matter.), one Junior and maybe, if money allows, SG or other cool and unique Gibson (ie: Firebird, V etc.).

This list, to me, has to include a Fender (Strat & Tele), any Gretsch semi-hollow "rock-a-billy" tone guitar and a 12 string electric.

I know this may come across wrong; however, you asked a very good and honest question....so I thought that I would give you my honest answer.

My opinion: If you only have limited funds like most of us (I am old and started buying guitars a long time ago.), you may want a more "versatile" guitar to start filling out his collection. Although the Junior has a killer tone...a really killer tone......it is just that.....one basic tone (or a bit more with 2 pick up's). I might be looking for a nice Les Paul Standard in a cool sunburst finish since you mentioned the Junior's sunburst.

    Just my 2Cents

thanks very much for the reply, much appreciated

  12. Hi all, my son has eyes for a les paul junior in vintage sunburst to go with his epi g400, should he do it??? We can get one new for a very good price from the nice folks he bought the epi from, all advice and opinions gratefully accepted,
