  1. Nice guitar. Do the early J45 TVs have Madagascar rosewood bridge and fretboard, like the Southern Jumbos?
  2. JRBC, I know exactly what you're talking about. I tried out several slope shouldered Gibsons over the past few months, and quite a few of them had what you describe. Some on the front and some on the back. Most recently, I tried out three brand new sunburst 50s J45s, and two of them had a back seem that I could easily feel. Luckily, I found one that was free of flaws, and played and sounded great. For what it's worth, I'm in Canada -- and these guitars were at stores that are part of a large chain.
  3. Hi everyone. Just thought I'd post a pic of my new '50s J45. I know it's still early, but I have have a feeling this one is a keeper. Sounds great, neck is perfect for my hand, and plays real good right out of the box even though the setup hasn't been tweaked yet.
  4. Does anyone here own, or has anyone played, a Gibson Custom Shop J45 Acacia? I believe they were made in 2015-16? Wondering what your opinions are. Thanks
  5. Thanks for the comments. Been playing it this weekend. The neck feels great.
  6. Hi everyone, after shopping for a new J45, I decided to maybe pay the extra cash for a Southern Jumbo. But there are none to be had in my area. I then came across a 2007 Southern Jumbo True Vintage for considerably less than a new J45. Went to check it out, and I bought it. The good -- great condition, Beautiful AAAA top (in my opinion), nice low action, sounds real good, original tan case with pink lining. The bad -- non-original K&K Pure Mini Pickup installed (some may consider it a plus), previous owner installed strap pin on back of heel :{
  7. This is the neck on a 69 goldtop that is for sale. Would you consider a guitar with this type of repair? It's described as thin gouges that were touched up -- but to me, it looks like a crack. Apparently the owner didn't like how the gouges felt, so he had a well-known repair person fill them with glue, and then sand and touch-up the finish. I saw the guitar in person, and you can't feel a thing, and you can't tell where the finish was touched up -- but you can see the thin glue lines which have darkened. Curious as to your opinions.
  8. So, what do you guys think about something like this refinished J-45??? 1945 Gibson ‘Banner’ J-45 | Folkway (folkwaymusic.com)
  9. I just got home from returning the guitar. They refunded me without a hassle. If it was just the little blemish under the bridge, I would've kept the guitar, and this thread would not have existed. But, like I said in the first post -- the area around the bass side of the bridge appeared to have been sanded and refinished with a less than perfect result. So I couldn't accept that on a new guitar -- plus it would be a factor if I end up deciding to sell it down the road at some point. Thanks for your replies and opinions
  10. I emailed the store about the missing warranty card/QC checklist, and was told Gibson does not include those with the acoustic guitars, just the electrics. Anybody here buy a new Gibson acoustic (2021) and can verify this?
  11. I'm on Day 10 of a 30-Day return window -- so it's probably going back to the store.
  12. I tried to take a picture of the area, but it's impossible because of the reflections -- it doesn't show up. Here's a pic I found online of the same guitar, which shows the same flaw at the edge of the bridge. Mine has the same thing. plus the area around the affected side of the bridge shows horizontal sanding marks and some slight runs or wrinkles in and under the finish. In normal light, it looks fine. It's just when the light hits it a certain way. So, maybe it's just poor quality control -- or I'm expecting too much. Also should I be concerned that there is no warranty booklet with QC list, or do these things get lost on a regular basis with new guitars? The other accessories were there (humidipak, cloth, truss wrench, keychain). I'm thinking if the guitar was returned from a previous buyer the humidipak would have been gone or opened.
