  1. The frets aren't original because I did the refretting, as mentioned. There were binding nibs on the previous, thus I assume it was all original work. Meaning the black paint on the binding. But again, I'm no expert.
  2. Hi everyone, new user here. I'm having a question related to my recent purchase. It is a 1982 Explorer, supposedly one of the last series made in Kalamazoo. What attracted me was not only this but also the fact that it had a binding, which - to my limited knowledge - was not a common thing back then. Upon the closer look this seems a regular binding, only painted black on the sides to match the neck color. Just in case, don't mention the nibs. The guitar desperately needed refretting and I've decided not to keep the them. The question is - is this binding factory made or has someone painted it? Overall it seems original, but I'm no expert. If anyone knows the answer, I'd appreciate letting me know. P.S. this is my first Explo and I must say it's awesome. Feeled awkward at the beginning, especially compared to LP (my second Gibson), but after a few tweaks I turned out much more handy and comfortable when playing standing. Hope it shows 🙂
