  1. Oh, I’m so sorry to hear this. Please tell him he was a big part of this place, and he was one of the truly memorable folks here. I always noted his help and comments when I joined. I wish him only comfort and the love of family as he faces this new transition. Bless him and you for taking care to reach out here. A comforting, virtual hug is offered.
  2. Thanks, Sarge, I know that’s high praise from you 🙂
  3. Thanks Rabs, yeah, at first I was a little bummed it wasn’t super stripey…but once we got it out into the light, it really came to life, and the subtler movement has grown on me.
  4. Thanks JO’c! (Ummmm, yeah, this one just ticked us over to needing a third big rack 🤫)

Do you have a good source for this? Besides guitars you’ve owned? The canon says Gibson has always had very specific TR set ups and a hinky configuration is one of the easier ways to spot a possible fake. If what you are saying is true, it is putting a whole lot of history/conventional thought upside down.
  6. Thanks, Phil. If you get the chance, please let folks know it’s a real winner 🏆
  7. 😁 Maybe I’ll add a black bar. Oh yeah! That’s actually one of the things I was I was referring to, when I said what a diff it made. I’ve never had any real trouble bending, but when I went up the neck to try this one (thinking of that post) I swear I slid nearly 1.5! I jumped 😄 it was so smooth. And just mentioning, chords at the nut, even with my arthritis, felt pretty okay. (The post was titled “Has anyone EVER had 3/64 action AND clean full step bends of the high E string at the 12-21's fret?” My take is it was kinda a weird post. I never bent by pressing “into” the fretboard, like he illustrated so that I hit the board below the apex of the curve. I just bend the string so it slides “over” the curve, if that makes sense.)
  8. I don’t think you can go wrong, especially if you buy from a place that will let you do a return. While I’m still searching for the right J-45 hog, for me, I have a couple other mahogany guitars as well as rosewoods, and I love the sounds from both and they play very well together. I think you will find it very complimentary with your mahogany. I will second 40’s disclaimer though. We tend here to be “very” encouraging 😄 Looking forward to a NGD from ya! Good luck!
  9. Ahhhh……. The itch has been foamed. Just put up a NGD in the Lounge
  10. I think thats the Royal Tan? 😆 They missed an obvious naming opportunity
  11. The Supreme, so far, is supreme. This is our first with the compound radius board. I was dubious if it would really matter at my current playing level. Hoo boy did it ever! We had a chance to try it against one of the ES 335 figured limited editions (in blueberry burst), just to compare if the Supreme was really all that much different. Yes, yes it was….
  12. Well, it’s $700.00 less than the Rosewood J45. I’ve noticed Taylor often tries to price point below Gibson, with similar appointments. Granted it isn’t exact, but if you want spruce/rosewood tone-woods in a full-size dread….? We have several Taylors, and I gotta say, the necks are pretty easy compared to some of our gibbys. And I found if you avoid the low end stuff, the sounds are actually full and rich. not the bright ear shattery twang that I associated with taylors.
  13. Okay, this old newbie will bite…. Who the heck is “theodore” and why does PRS care? If it’s too long to go into, it’s okay, I’m assuming survival of the human species doesn’t hinge on my knowing the answer, but I do enjoy the ballad of a gusty flame war around a campfire.
  14. since it’s a brand new one, if you haven’t tried already, the best bet is to call Gibson CS and ask (rather than asking us bunch of randos on a fan forum who don’t have access to the specs for your guitar, and who don’t know why you are asking) . The number is on their page under support. With the serial number they should be able to tell you.
  15. Thanks for the great history Phil, and the note about the city wanting to buy it. I hope they are successful.
  16. Thanks, that was helpful
  17. We’re just a fan forum here. Best bet is to call Gibson Customer service and ask. You may have to have to do a special order/MIM.
  18. So did you actually submit a warranty claim? Manufacturing defects are usually covered under a warranty. Did you try to get the repair work covered and they blew you off? Or did you just email and say, “hey, the frets sucked on three tries?” If you did the first and they didn’t cover the work, then yes, that sucks and you are right, screw them. If you only did the second, after returning all three, well, what did you expect them to do? You gave them a heads up there was a qa/qc issue, and they said ”thanks.” But if you don’t have the guitars anymore, and never took the steps to get the repair covered, well, there’s not exactly anything Gibson can do about it, to “make you right.” The shop took care of you when they returned your money.
  19. Some people’s skin is more acidic than others, and the oils and sweat will eat through finishes if they are not vigilant about wiping down after each session. For example, my wife regularly wears all the letters off her keyboard. I have the same model and mine still looks brand new after three years. She is religious about wiping off her guitars.
  20. I just picked up a Gibson I haven’t played for about three-four months. Just had to tweak the low E and B up a whisker.
  21. Nod, same here. So this was my office yesterday. On days like this, it’s kinda hard to think about giving it up. 50 miles from the Canadian border, along the North Shore in Superior National Forest. Can’t beat getting paid to hang out where everyone else pays to go on vacation. But the “steam” is getting harder to sustain as our boilers are beginning to wear out.
  22. Oh man, maybe it’s my thing for everything deco, but I’m all over the inlay on this one 🙂
  23. Hey, but just a heads up on the Gibson page: there seems to be a description error in the Tan exclusive blurb. The image shows only two pups, but the copy says it has three. (Looks like a copy/paste error from the ebony?) Anyway, I gotta say, this release is making us look 😄
  24. Okay, gee, this is dredging up some chemical fog shrouded memory… I think I may have seen them too, but accidentally on some last minute comps at 1st Ave. Had no clue who they were, and very little memory of the show other than I think I booked out with a bad case of the heebie jeebies over the eyeball in my enhanced state. Tbh, some of the 70s and 80s died with my brain cells. I did see Laurie Anderson a couple of times more clear headed, and she put on killer, mind blowing shows.
