1. Hey guys, Here's a video of AC/DC doing a live gig with Bon Scott using Orange Amps not Marshall.
2. Yo Tom, Those are excellent guitars. Just a tad too big for my taste but they sound most excellent. BTW what amps have you tried so far? My local guitar shop has a special sound room so you can really crank it up if you want to. Must be fun test driving the different amps out there! Rewd.
3. Tom another thing, When you use a camera the pic will be small at first. Just double click on the photo you want to post and it should come up full size. You shouldn't have to resize it. Just double click the img code it will say copied. Then come to the forum and paste it in your text. Good luck! Rewd.
4. You are not using the img code when iserting the image just double click the img code. It will say copied. Then just paste the code in your text message. Do not use the insert image button. I tried blowing it up on my pc and it just got blurry.
5. I reread my last post and made it sound like the tubes are pricey. I meant to say that Orange amps are a little pricey but the Tiny Terror is a class A amp and is well worth the money. Those semi hollow guitars add a different spectrum to pickups but the guitars just seem a little bulky to me and they are not as light as a person might think. My friend let me try his Dot and that's the impression I got from it. It's am Epi but I figure a Gibson shares pretty much the same sizes and are comparable in weight. I guess I am just hooked on the SG. Rewd.
6. That's a beautiful guitar. The 57 classics with the 6 way varitone switch has got to sound awesome. The price doesn't look too bad. They sell for $2800 new. BTW what do you think of the Orange Tiny Terror. I think it is the ideal combo amp for in a condo. You can get a great distortion at 7 watts and lower volumes. That's why I bought one. You need to listen to the videos above with headphones or a decent computer sound system to really hear how good these amps sound. Great British tone! Later Dude, Rewd.
7. Hey Tom, What's happening? I know what you mean. We got my Marshall W/GB ext. cab out over the weekend. A friend knows someone who has a homemade outside stage on quite a few acres. We got to jam for the day. It was fun as all hell. One guitarist had an Orange Rocker 30 running thru a Randall 4 x 12. The other had a Peavy 75W Vyper setup running thru a Ibanez 4 x 12 and I had my Marshall W/ the Genz-Benz 2 x 12. I'm not trying to brag but the other guys just could not keep up with my setup. They kept saying how awesome my setup sounded. The other guitarists kept wanting to use my Marshall. Since I play rythmn guitar I obliged them. All said and done they used my setup more than I did. It sure does sound sweet cranked up to 11. I didn't use any effects other than a wah pedal. In response to your situation. I would at least check out the Marshall Class 5 1 x 10 combo amp. Read the reviews on a few sites like MF, Sweetwater, Zzounds etc. Most of the reviews were positive and they say you get the Marshall tone out of them but you do have to crank it up to get good distortion. If it is too loud then your friend may be right. I would test run all the modeling amps out there and see if any of them get close to the sound you want. I am not too familiar with SS modeling amps. The 2 I hear the most about is the Line 6 and the Peavy Vypr. Maybe you can run a Tonelab SE thru your Line 6 speaker. I hear some great reviews of people getting great tone using them thru their SS amps. I hope you find what you are looking for. Peace Man! Rewd
8. Hey Tom, Marshall makes a 5 watt combo tube amp for around $400. Would be great for use in a Condo. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-Class-5-5W-1x10-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=621064 There is also The Marshall Haze for around $700 but 40W is quite a bit for a condo? http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-Haze-MHZ40C-40W-1x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=581910 You don't need a 100W half stack to bring the rafters down in a condo. The 40W 1 x 12 combo would probably do it quite nicely and keep your ears ringing for a week or 2. The 5W combos are nice and might help you maintain your hearing better. It's really up to you. BTW take another look at the pic of my setup and see if you can find what's different?
9. Hey Tom I had to change my setup. The story why is in the Gibson Lounge. Anyhoo it really is in your face Marshall tone now. The bottom end on my new cab is unreal. The volume is almost twice as loud as before. Genz-Benz claims it out performs alot of 4 x 12 cabs. http://www.genzbenz.com/?fa=detail&mid=1409&sid=419&cid=93 Also Tom it's easy to post pics. read the following thread. http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=11276 Later Rewd.
10. Yeah the pickguards on SG's have been discussed several times in this forum. I think the people that prefer the vintage look like the small pickguard more. I personally like either one. The chicken head 6 way switch I think is really special. Why (dare I say it) Fender uses a 5 way slider on alot of their guitars is beyond me. Then look at the Gibson custom SG it costs a pretty penny and uses a 3 way switch for 3 pickups. Can't figure that one out either. The great thing is that we all have our own SG's and love playing them! Rewd.
11. Nice guitar wasn't that a 2007 GOW SG? How do those single coil blades sound compared to a Fender? The 3 humbuckers may look tacky to you and your opinion is welcome. We that own and play them love the sound and tone variations. I personally like the looks of them and I like the looks of 3 humbuckers on a Les Paul. Here's a guy with the same type of guitar you have claiming you get humbucker tones with his guitar. I think he is quoting the wrong SG-3. lol http://cgi.ebay.com/gibson-sg-3-guitar-week-21-sg3-3-single-coil-ash-/120595334556?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar&hash=item1c140ac59c :- Rewd
12. Yeah we have an amateur recording engineer. Still working out the kinks. If we ever get something recorded that's worthy of posting. I'll try to post on this thread. BTW I am not currently using strap locks but the general consensus on the subject is Schaller is probably the best. Using existing size screws in the same holes is recommended. Sometimes you have to go buy s/s screws and grind on them to get them to work. There are dozens of posts on the subject just look them up in the search engine. Peace Man! & remember" Rock n Roll Ain't Noise Pollution"!!!! Rewd.
13. Thanks Tom you are a real trooper. I'm not a rockstar but I do have fun playing guitar with musicians around town. I have a thread on another blog site that specializes in vintage Gibson guitars. Let's see if they can shed some light on our SG-3 guitars. Let me know how your venture to find a nice small tube amp goes. It would be a great topic in the Lounge section of this forum if you have alot of questions about various amps out there. There are members of this Forum that own or know about just about everything out there. Peace Bro, and "Don't Bother Knockin Cause the House is a Rockin" SRV Rewd.
14. What's up brothers and sisters? I played my first gig last night in 2 1/2 years and it felt great. I played rythmn guitar with some local musicians. We played 70's & 80's hard rock and metal, some thrash metal and they tought me some blues. It was a real blast and will be a weekly thing. BTW I am also taking lessons now from one of the best guitarists in town. Plan to go beyond being just a rythmn guitarist. May even do a little recording if we can get a steady singer. Peace and Keep On Rockin!!!! Rewd.
15. Thanks Tom, I really like that Epi Prophecy SG GX. Those DF pups really smoke. They have a little more bottom end than the 500T pups and they are a little hotter. It also has coil split and when split in the bridge pos. it sounds alot like Blackmore's Strat when he played with Rainbow. My V is a guitar of the week model. Made in 2007 week 31. Here are the specs http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Divisions/Gibson%20USA/Guitar%20of%20the%20Week/Flying_V_New_Century/. I really like the sound of that guitar also. It also is a great guitar for hard rock and metal and has a cool clean sound. That's the first V I have ever owned and I love the weight and upper fret access. Before you sell your LP. I would check out a Night Train, Tiny Terror or Blackstar. They are all great little tube amps that come in combo's and won't break the bank. You could probably trade your Spyder in and knock a nice chunk off the price. Later on when you have a little more cash you could get a Vox Tonelab ST for $200 and get all the effects you probably need and you don't lose your tube tone while using it. Check one out they run off of a tube W/ Valvetronics technology. Every person I have talked to and owns one really loves them. As a matter of fact some guys run it thru their SS amps and get a tube tone with it. Could be an aletrnative to buying a tube amp at this time if cash flo is a prob. Let me know what you think. My only concern is you may like the tone of your LP later on and you can always swap pups in her if the tone isn't cutting it for now. New LP's are only going to go up in price later on in life. Well gotta go Bro. Keep On Rockin In The Free World!!! Rewd.
16. Hey Tom What's up shredder? I know this is the SG-3 post but have you seen pics of my Epi Prophecy and my Gibson New Century Flying V? Two great axes. The Prophecy has Grover tuners, 24 frets, ebony FB and graphite nut. It plays awesome for an Epi. My V also has Grover tuners, 22 frets, and ebony FB. (1 of 400). Here's a looksee and I hope you like. Talk to you later. Rewd. P.S. I will delete this post after you get done looking. I'm not trying to hijack your thread. Btw Keep On Rockin Bro!!!
17. Thanks Tom. The headstock is just showing a reflection. I'm not much of a photographer. I think your right about the pup covers. I'll just replace them next time I change the strings. MF sells them for about $23 ea. Actually Sweetwater has them for $16.29 ea. I like Sweetwater better anyway. I love my Marshall. It is the 60W version of the amp in your review link. BTW when I add the B-52 2x12 cab to the combo amp it sounds like a true half stack. Look at my sig. There is not a lot of difference in volume between 60W & 100W. There are a few more features on the 100W combo but I couldn't justify the price diff. when I bought it. Here's links to specs and reviews. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-JCM2000-TSL602-Combo-Amp?sku=483197 http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Marshall/JCM-2000+TSL+602/10/1 Peace Bro and Keep On Rockin!!!! Rewd.
18. Here's some newer pics. I can't clean up the pickup covers the way I want to. Suggestions have always involved a solvent that would ruin the finish if an accident happened. Suggestions are welcome. I may need new covers?
19. Hey Tom check out these old videos in my previous post. Alot of people were not exposed to bands like these in the days. Hope you like. Rewd.
20. The best strings for my SG's are strings that are installed properly and in tune. Brands and their tone is as wide as the number of guitars available to use them. Gotta keep trying different ones until you find the ones you like the most. Rewd.
