  1. I know this is a Gibson forum but I've got a chance to pick up a 1979 or possibly a 1980 Martin D-18 and hope one of you guys can help.  Are those years known as good/bad/indifferent for the D-18?  I know next to nothing about Martin but this is an under-the-bed kept guitar that's supposed to be in terrific shape and the price is super cheap.

I apologize, but I forgot to write that in case someone had or was willing to take this photo and it resulted heavier than the maximum allowed size of the attachments then please contact me via email at ale.sgura08@gmail.com

Thank you for any answer or even just for reading.

If you still need this let me know.  I have a high-end DSLR and could take a pic of mine for you.

Just curious how everyone is getting along with their new J-150s?  I’m in love with mine, it felt a little cramped on the lower frets at first but have adjusted, love the sound.  I have Martin PB lights on there and like the combo now that it’s broken in a little bit.  I’ve found it bro be a pretty good finger picker as well as an excellent strummer.

My OG saddle broke and Gibson sent me what seems to be an enormous blank to have it fitted but have been getting on just fine right now with the compensated saddle I used when the original broke.

    happy playing

My NGJ150 is amazing!  Plays and sounds beautiful.  The only complaint I would have about it is that the back has very little "flame" compared to the example pics on the Gibson website.  The shoulders have a bit more than the example pics though.  Obviously wood is different and as long as it sounds great I'm not bothered with that.

Side question - anyone know what strings come from the factory?  Is it the bronze or the phospher bronze?

Is there anything unique about the case that I'm not aware of?  Seems like just a regular case to me.

Unless you (or a former owner) replaced the pots, you need to get metric knobs. Gibson are not.

Metric knobs and pots are "fine spline" with 24 splines. You might see them marketed a "Alpha" knobs. These are on most Asian import guitars.

Standard knobs and pots are "course spline" with 18 splines. The knobs might be marketed as "CTS." These are on most American guitars.

You can salvage the knobs you have if you happen to have an old "Alpha" pot that doesn't work. You just heat up the shaft with a soldering iron and press the knob on; it will melt it to fit.

exactly the info I needed, thanks!

  6. I need new knobs for my two archtops, a Sheraton II from 2012 and a Noel Gallagher Supernova.  I bought the Gibson brand ones but they seem like they don't quite fit correctly.  Are they the right ones and I'm just putting them on wrong?

    What about these from StewMac?

I emailed Klusen. This is there response.
This is a lubrication port.  We recommend a grease for gears and not an oil or WD-40 as it will leak out through the housing seams and make a mess.  Big Bends Nut Sauce also is a good form of lubricant and comes in a handy syringe.

I'm buying some just for that name product to be on my shelf lol

That one is interesting.  It could just be the camera angle, but it looks like the left side of the back has lots of flame while the right side has little.

Mine has almost no flame on the rear of it, but there's some nice flame on the shoulders.  I think I prefer having it on the shoulders if I had to choose.

I have been really enjoying playing this J-150, it is definitely loosening up a bit and once the strings get loose I think it will really sing and be a dream to play.

I was curious if others noticed the fretboard edges to be 'sharp'?  There is no binding but it seems that the angle of the wood is pretty sharp on the edge of the fretboard, I've noticed my thumb just feeling scrapped and sore after playing.  Not a show stopper and assume it will 'round out' with play.

Not one bit of that for me!  Mine has to be one of the most impressive sounding and feeling guitars I've ever played.  Been really happy with it!

Honestly I haven’t noticed it being too cramped, which is what I worried about.  My Epi EJ200SCE is definitely thinner width and depth.  I have a 50s LP and a Noneck Strat, which are both broad and deep, but I’d say this feels pretty close to my D-18.  I definitely like no neck binding, I like binding on my LP but not acoustic.

Ya I was a bit worried about the nut width as well.  J-150 has 1.69” and J-200 1.73” but I haven’t found it to be that much different in feel.  I picked up an Epi IBG Hummingbird a few weeks ago and it has the same 1.69” so already been playing with that.

yes, Naptha..which is common lighter fluid ...used to fill cigarette lighters and light charcoal grills. .. works perfect..with zero harm to any finish including nitro or poly. I used it on my own Masterbilt AJ-45 when I replaced it with a new one. Pour some on a rag...rub it back and forth..it will get gummy, then come off entirely leaving no residue.

Forgot to ask, any particular brand that you’d recommend?  Home Depot nearby has this -
