  1. The only person I saw who could hang with Jeff Beck was SRV although Jeff could do quite a few different things. This is fun to watch:
  2. You look at your record collection and nearly all of the artists are either deceased, are too old and crotchety to tour any longer or are playing stadiums for astronomical seating prices.
  3. The official word from Martin: Thank you for contacting C.F. Martin & Co.!We are happy to assist with this inquiry!Select Hardwood which refers to various Mahogany and Cedar woods. These account for woods that fall into the generally accepted family of Mahogany including Cedar, Sipo, and Sapele which are sourced from many different countries. All of the woods function the same and are similar in visual characteristics. We do not keep records of which species of Mahogany or Cedar we used per serial number. -------------------------------------- To extrapolate, same deal with the Spruce. If you like it, buy it. If not, don't.
  4. Let's let this thread go. Anybody got a Bono to throw on it?
  5. One of mine? No, I never met the man. It's just a picture of him at home on his Triumph.
  6. There was Jeff Beck and then there was everybody else. RIP, Mr. Beck.
  7. I wouldn't advise calling them, they seem to be a little cranky at the moment.
  8. All of the above? Next stop, Moscow and then get conscripted. Some prize!
  9. When electric starters on motorcycles were really uncommon and derided as being effete.
  10. Does Gibson know about this I-word infringement? The Strat® doesn’t just create musical icons—it is one.
  11. When you recall giant shopping malls being the latest and greatest thing and it was such a big deal to go there.
  12. Please, I have Sitka Coasters and they say something like Merry Christmas 2014 with the Martin logos on them or something like that. I do notice that my coffee tastes better when I use the lightest colored coaster.
  13. Ask them if that lady was pulling our legs about strings being made in Mexico. It was odd as another woman at the end of the tour asked who had high end Martins and when I said I had an HD-28V she asked where I bought it and when I said private party she said well, hopefully it's not a counterfeit but I'm sure it's not. Then she gave me some wood coasters made out of the section they cut out for the soundholes and out the door we went.
  14. That's actually what the lady tour guide told us. The tour guides are retired Martin employees. What I remember most about her was she hated working in the department that made strings and was so glad when production was moved to Mexico.
  15. This whole thing seems fraught with peril. The safest bet is to not buy anything.
  16. A tour guide told us that Martin puts a microchip in the neck when they build the guitar to week out counterfeits. I didn't ask when they started doing this but it's been at least for the past decade.
  17. I recall Matty Umanov saying there's only two types of acoustic guitars: Gibson and Martin. I would think anyone who likes the Martin sound would be more apt to purchase say, a Collins, than a Gibson if they were looking for an alternative. For my own guitars, if they say spruce, rosewood, ebony and select hardwoods I say that's nice, long as it's not Richlite I'll take it.
  18. Let us know when you buy them (I guess both a D-45 and D-28) and let us know what you think of them. I always thought the D-35 was a handsome guitar, hmmm....
  19. I forgot to add, what everyone else said, that is a beautiful guitar.
  20. Looking at the size of that building, I'm thinking they filmed that on a Sunday. The Martin factory looks to be around the same size and it's full of people cranking them out.
  21. That's a lot of tone! Are you planning on adding a VariTone to cut it back a little?
  22. Here's your D-45 spec sheet: https://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/D-45.html?cgid=guitars
  23. Here's a thread detour: I have a lot of knives and recently purchased some switchblades (don't tell Mom). https://www.buckknives.com/product/110-auto-knife/0110BRSA-B/ I was surprised to see them mention sourcing the ebony from Taylor Guitars. Why they call if Crelicam (trade mark) Genuine Ebony is probably like calling balsa wood Chromite.
