  1. Brrr-zaaaap!!! You going to hit see Roxy Music?
  2. Time capsule is right, congratulations in advance!
  3. Either this is a really big Les Paul or that's an awfully tiny guy. Maybe I should order one to find out which is which. I hope it doesn't come with one of those super heavy Costa Rican cases, I'll have to put wheels on it and drag it behind me, I won't be able to pick it up.
  4. Good deal! I was sure they kicked our miserable butts to the curb for general misbehavior.
  5. Only in this day and age could a country bombing civilians cry something as stupid as "cancel culture".
  6. That one looks really good and yes, all the new ones seem to come through with really dry fret boards.
  7. Where do you stick the Firebird case?
  8. I did the same thing - Firebird VII looks okay but I noticed the strings are a bit off with the way I set the adjustable rollers. I should go work for Gibson as a Kwality Controll Eggspurt.
  9. That looks nice, enjoy it. That's a long time to wait for a 335, I would have forgotten that I ordered it.
  10. One fellow in Canada has some of their 6SN7s in his preamp, he says they're the best he's tried but no idea about the price. Look at the price of their 300B: https://www.westernelectric.com/300b
  11. I filled out that form and KT88, 6550 and EL34 for me. It may be quite some time and I think they'll be really expensive.
  12. I would have paid extra if they would have edited out Yoko. Did you notice that she stopped rolling around in a bag and Lennon cut out that Bag Production stuff after Zappa had her perform on a track entitled, Scum Bag?
  13. I just inherited $21 million which is to be deposited on my Visa account as soon as I provide my card number. Can you believe it, my lucky day!
  14. I learned the world is far more screwed up than I ever dreamed it could be, I learned that Gibson QC went up and then it went down (kind of like the stock market), I learned that Kanye West gets mad if someone bones his ex-wife's silicone, I learned that stereo gear continues to improve and that my wife probably came here from another planet.
  15. Say it ain't so. Kiss my McNugget.
  16. Once was more than enough for me and not like a cold, more like a sledgehammer and that's with 3 shots.
  17. Have you listened to them yet? Mine will show up sometime next week.
  18. I think I'd sooner drill a hole in the top of my helmet and insert a Sister Rosetta Tharpe banner in it on a little pole.
  19. That bit by the nut is unacceptable (or at least it would be by me).
  20. Why, the Firebird VII, of course. I chased this particular guitar all over the country: everytime I'd get close to begin able to afford it the listing would vanish and then a couple of months later it would pop up again, I'd almost be there and SOLD. I finally got it but it took around half a year! It's ridiculously long and my right hand bangs into the twang bar pivot and the pick ups sound ridiculously wimpy but this is the one for me. Is it my best guitar? No but it's the one that lives on the stand right next to me and gets played every day.
  21. Guitar amps are where the majority of tubes go but there is an audiophile community. To retube my stereo amps I would need 32 6550s and 4 EL34s. I have 15 6550s, zero EL34s on hand at the moment. The majority of the current production tubes (Gold Lion, Tung-Sol, Mullard, Sovtek, Electro-Harmonix) are made in Russia, the parent company being New Sensor here in the US. I think Shuguang and Psvane in China are gone (but I could be mistaken), EI in Yugoslavia was bombed years ago so there's Linlai in China which may or may not be doing power tubes, JJ in the Slovak Republic , the New Sensor group in Russia and maybe Shuguang and Psvane.
  22. Signal tubes are no problem but there's not a whole lot of power tubes floating around these days. JJ is reporting a year's backlog in filling orders, GE is flirting with really expensive audio tubes but the pollution involved with the manufacturing process means don't expect us to re-enter the field. With any luck things will get back to normal soon.
  23. Thank you for posting that, that article was a great read. Think I'll put on ELP for a few hours today.
  24. I use a welders tip file, you can get them on Amazon for under $10. You just want to make the slot a little wider, not deeper. If the neck doesn't have enough relief it'll fret out on the first 3 or 4 frets on the G string, that kind of sounds like what you're describing. If the nut isn't wide enough you'll hear a "plink" when you're tuning the string. I use 11s on all of my Gibson electrics so run a file through the nut slots as soon as they'd show up (along with Lemon Oil and new strings, of course).
