  1. I was getting confused. Thanks for figuring it out ZW.
  2. Hehe. I think I have a few bucks coming. Probably more to follow.
  3. I'd like dollar for everyone who disagrees with this, but I'd leave the guitar on a stand or inside wall (not above direct heat) hanger for easy access, and let it acclimate to the seasonal changes slowly over time, absorbing and shedding moisture naturally. Chasing guitar hydration, except for use of whole space room units, is a zillion dollar business for what amounts to guesswork.
  4. Only a photo would help here. You may have to shrink the photo or use a pic site like Imgur.
  5. Absolutely, Murph! Right on point. What veer? Next topic.
  6. You've been around long time, seen a lot, ZW. Nevertheless, the UMGF has a bridge slotting thread that veered to eagle rescue and falconry. We're all ADHD, more or less, and sometimes just need a one off word to go sideways. Dave
  7. Check out the Ren FB page. All overly decorated guitars. He surely understands the pure geometry of a great guitar build, he just adds a flair I don't appreciate. Hell, I even hate all pick guards, and pull them whenever prudent. They muddle up the naked beauty. https://www.facebook.com/RenFergusonCo/
  8. Aha! I think you are your friend's wisest advisor, and he should go no farther than you to figure it out. There's nothing more beautiful than a plain Jane, broken in J.
  9. Yeah, thinking about it, I realize wtf am I giving financial advice for. I'm paying down a Martin Custom Shop order, semi-retired, holding a $48K mortgage struggling to keep my oil tank filled. Wait time at Martin CS is around 11 months, so I might be dead when it's ready, or worse yet, forget I ordered it.
  10. Yeah, I always wondered what the interior decor of Ren's house looks like, based on his propensity for gaudy guitar bling.
  11. Yeah, some love the bling and odd bridge, and then others...
  12. Yes, I felt, from your description, he wanted it to play. Just thinking about possibility of the payments becoming a burden if schit happens, then needing to get cash back.
  13. Economists are saying hold off on big buys right now. I've often not followed this advice in the past when it comes to guitars, based on the swap-out factor if I need to back peddle. In the vintage world, I think the re-sale move is much harder in the current financial climate.
  14. Off point but easily the ugliest guitar ever made. 7K buys a lot of guitar. More tone, less bling.
  15. It's such a beauty. I wish Gibson had stayed with the rectangular bridge. I don't know the mechanics of why 3rd party host site photos are more forum friendly, but I was never able to attach from my files unless shrunken to thumbnail.
  16. I'm going to try and post a random Gibson photo from my Imgur account. It's the easiest photo site this tech dinosaur can actually navigate.
  17. That came out nice, J. Good job on the cover, and the 'real' Xbraced LG tone. I hope 'cobbers' is a good thing to be. Dave
  18. Hey Neil. Is the AJ something your ordered up, or just a fortunate find? It would be nice to see, if you feel like fighting through the pic post maze.
  19. From a guy who can't finger pick...good players make good noise on any good guitar, so I never look at it in that way. The wider string spacing and smaller bod make the L generally easier to handle for me, and the tone is relatively mellower and a little less woody. Are you shopping vintage?
  20. Honestly, any quality string, in keeping with variations in your hearing and expectations, will produce the special tone of that level of J. You'll likely be very happy with more than one set/style.
  21. Holy Crap, what beauty! Thanks for re-showing.
  22. Congratulations on the keeper! Pics have disappeared, sadly.
  23. There might be a thing about new members and photos, but the only thing I've found that works is using the pic site Imgur to share on forums.
