  1. What's the best neck profile?....the one that "FEELS" the best...I have a lot of different widths and shapes...I like them all!
  2. Yes I am blessed to have this one.....one of 32 made, it has Rosewood B&S, on board pick up (not great), 1 13/16" nut with "V" neck.....same size as Nick Lucas model......some were made with Koa B&S (mostly for Japan Market) 14 fretters were also made, they had problems with "Wolf" tones for some reason.
  3. Here is another '94 with the 100 year label......L-20....
  4. I've played 2 at Gelb Music in Redwood City, The wood looked great, the simple rosette and binding actually made them look cheap, fit and finish was subpar, and they just didn't sound that good.....I would classify them as a "fail"
  5. 12 fretters are NOT everyone's cup of tea.....there are a lot of things you can't do because of those missing two frets.(for example, I can't play the intro to 'Malted Milk' on a 12 fretter). A lot of dealers won't put them on the wall, because they are expensive and not "traditional" from the historic Gibson POV. I've been to several local Gibson dealers, and they will NOT stock them, but they WILL order them for you......
  6. I turned this one in to Gibson fraud......
  7. This just fries my niblets..... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/msg/2950670508.html
  8. Nick...I'm getting the frets redone on my L-7......they were pretty low and with my finger tips, I need more fret....ahhhh the joys of vintage ownership!

  9. John....miss you around the funny farm!!!

  10. Nick....America's cup is still short several million in San Francisco.....think that's a problem???

  11. Hey...it is a really nice one...talk to Jordan, he's the manager.....He quoted me the 40% figure a while ago...anyway, try it out and let me know what you think...

"Owf, I can't wait to go play that Bird. I'm working in RWC so hopefully I can swing by before it's gone. I'm surprised you say they usually give 40% off I have not had that luck at all and have spe...

  12. I was very touched by this post of yours, Mr. Gibbs...it is how I feel also!

  13. "I have the same problem. For me this is a matter af exchane of spiritual energy. I believe that the artist is a two-way conductir of energy. The one way is the energy that Lord gives him and the artist gives it by making his art to the audience. The other way is that the artist gets the energy of everyone of the audience and gives those feelings back to The Creator." This is a BEAUTI...

  14. I see I can't post a link in here...try typing "VINTAGE 1924 GIBSON L-2 L2 L 2 ARCHTOP ACOUSTIC GUITAR" It is for sale by Warpdrive music, worth a look at least

  15. Zomby...this is one of the best condition L-2's I've seen in a LONG while.....They had it posted at $3500, so the price is lowered, and there is a "make offer" box....still pretty pricey, but it is in great condition with all original parts....just FYI, I don't know this guy from Adam.....

  16. Hey Nick...been playing my L-7, these guys really have a nice sound...just wondering how your voyage is going with yours???

  17. Johnt...great to see a post by you once again...long time no type! Hope you are doing well and pickin' and grinnin'!!!

  18. I can't get over how COOL your 1930s Kay Kraft round hole is......just a winner!

  19. Sounds like you got a great deal on your JB.....may I ask what you paid for future reference??? Thanks...if not OK too...I understand

  20. Zomby, did Kay make that May-Belle Style 75 (made by Slingerland)???? The wood looks amazingly like the wood on my Kay K-20 "f" hole!

  21. Pfox......what was the "normal" SL for the 20's Archtops like mine? I was just playing it this morning, and it is not like an Archtop really....good sustain and lots of Bass...AND the string tension is very light because of the short scale, makes it a joy to play!!!! A real keeper!! The paper label states "L2" nothing about custom etc.....just ANOTHER...

  22. Hey man....Long time no see!!! You are always coming up with new guitars aren't you!!!??? Did you ever sell your Roy Smeck??? Which guitars do you have now??

  23. Hi John...I re-measured that L-2 and it does have a 24 1/4" scale length (exactly 12 1/8" from back of nut to center of 12th fret)....is that weird??? I wouldn't mind 25.25" SL, give me a little more room moving up the neck....lol

  24. I rechecked the SL because you thought it was strange, and it is exactly 24 1/4". What is the "normal SL you are accustomed to on these archtops? Also 13 frets to the neck, which is interesting...let me know what you think!
