  1. You've such a fun id :) thank you for mentioning about the problem. Yes, I've tried changing/rotating all the knobs that comes with the VOX amp - but no use. I'm actually now just tend to believe and praying that, you all people became right. It's the amp not the guitar. Yes, the amp jack goes into the guitar clean, no middle-wire, one side input into the guitar, and one headphone out.

Well, the only thing I have left - are you able to Plug in to a different

amplifier to test? If guitar sounds "normal" again, it's the VOX.

If guitar Pickups still have same muddy sound, this will lead us back to guitar,

and things like input jack contact with plug in, etc.

Are you able to try this?

"Input Jacks - How to keep them CLEAN" - Really!

    http://www.300guitars.com/300s-tips/300-tip-how-to-clean/

Good luck, keep us updated, please!!!

  2. Would tend to agree with others - sounds like you may have

accidentally turned one of the knobs on the Vox - you have

    Volume, Gain, and Tone.

The Guitar has a 99.9% chance of being OK from just putting it away,

and the fact you mention it is happening no matter which Pickup you select

leads me back to the VOX.

From a Review of the VOX:

"Absolutely no problems whatsoever in the couple years I've owned it...

Except for a short while when I didn't realize I had the phones plugged

in the wrong jack and didn't know it."

Never know, have to eliminate ALL the things that need to be checked. [biggrin]

EDIT - is the AMP jack that goes into the guitar clean? No goop or foreigm

material on it? Same for your headphone jack.

  3. Hey, mine was checked by "Gabor" too. I did get all the goodies mentioned - I bought it online from European reseller Thomann. I wrote them a message beforehand and they assured me I would get everything that Epiphone originally puts in the box. Sure, the cord is a cheap version, but it will do the job for a few weeks until I buy a really good one.

Save your cord - It's useless for plugging into an AMP, but is perfect for rolling up

in case pocket and uing with Korg tuner.

  4. Danski - Welcome to the forum. Let's get your issue sorted out,

then we can welcome you properly.

Normally there are things we look for when getting an "Iz IT FAKE?" question,

one of which will be the appearance of the Headstock serial #. Other things will require

good, straight on pics of the BODY so we can see the Knobs, pickguard and screw, bridge and

tailpiece...Basically a good shot of the whole thing. Other full git pics wouldn't hurt either.

There are things that raise RED Warning Flags to us, one of which is the Serial Number stamp.

    I'll explain in a bit.

White EPI Les Paul Customs are notorious for being "faked", but the makers still make the same

boo-boos, which is why we're holding what we look for close to the vest, so to speak. PICS!!!!!

For example, on Ebay, the sellers put them up for SHORT periods of time, and after one is sold,

they use the SAME pics for the next one. Also the BACKGROUND of the shots can be a giveaway, plus

seller info and history, which we scrutinize.

Don't give up hope just yet, we need to see more.

    OK, back to serial number:

I have two EPI LPs, both made in China, one at the QuingDao plant (EE) which yours indicates, and the other

at the DaeWoo plant (DW). I've taken pics of the serial numbers, and I'll put your pic up as a comparison

and explain what I don't like about what I see.

    DaeWoo Plant, 2006

    100_0471-1-1-1.jpg

QuingDao Plant, 2008 (Both Mine and Yours):

    100_0770.jpg3221237G.jpg

You'll note that on the EPIs I have the FACTORY LETTER CODE is the same size as the

rest of the serial number, and spacing between letters and numbers is consistent.

On the EPI you posted pics of the Factory Letters are noticably LARGER than the rest of the

serial number, and the spacing is a bit off/wider, EVEN THOUGH both our Gits came from the

SAME factory, in the SAME Year, just a few months apart.

This is why we need to see more good pics of the front.

Are you able to say if this was an Ebay purchase? Shipped From? Price lower than expected?

    Looking forward to more pics!

  5. Infiner - I went ahead and linked this thread in the "Do-it-Yourself" Sticky.

You've put a lot of effort into the research. It's in the Guitar Wiring Diagrams

    section as a "Stand-Alone" topic.

This thread had come up before, but at that stage it seemed to be still in an

experimental/under development point, so I just waited.

Now, others can easily pull it up, comment, etc. Any changes/additions to THIS thread

will automatically be pulled up if clicked on in the DIY, and now this thread won't "get lost".

    [thumbup]

  6. Based on your pics, and the fact that the wire is coming into the

cavity thru it's own "little hole" also lead me to believe that it's

the bridge/tailpiece ground wire. Yeeeesh - what a lame soldering job,

wire end looks like [cursing] ....

T.T. Lights, AMX, And Willy are heading you in the correct direction.

If you had a multi-meter, this could be confimed in seconds. Without one,

just do the "tape to back of Pot" thing as Willy recommended. Maybe electrical tape

for a bit more holding power?

If willy's suggestion proves correct regarding re-establishing the Ground via taping,

just re-solder to back of a potentiometer. That should put you back in business!

  7. I gotta give a "bump" to this very valid and interesting topic......

Love my '56 GT, but was hatin' on the buzz.....considered swapping out p'ups, but love the raw tone too much.

Have this topic saved in "favorites" for possible future use.......

But for now, i'm beating the buzz/hum by a really groovy 99% with a simple noisegate, not set high enough to "suck my tone", just enough to clean it up a bit.

Don't worry about having to bump this one - it's in the EPI Lounge DIY thread under the

"Pickup Modification Section". Check out the thread sometime - 100 entries, 5400 views so far.

    ALWAYS looking for suggestions! [thumbup]

  8. Thank You! Me Unner-Stand, now! My disadvantage was not

having a P-90 pup in hand to look at regarding electical connections.

    P-90.jpg

You have done what is similar to a "Peter Green" Mod

when done to HumBuckers - involves reversing polarity of Magnet.

Hmmmmmm.... need to do a thread on that! There are MANY, MANY

    search results on this.

Peter Green Mod (in a nutshell):

  9. Brickster, for some ODD reason, I'm having a heck of a time

wrapping my brain around exactly what was done - "flip the Bobbin"?

I read a Bobbin can be made of plastic, wood, etc. Flipping it would

seem to be of no difference. Flipping a Magnet, yes.

I AM both Mechanically AND electrically inclined, but reading the

TEXT description you provided leaves many questions unanswered for me.

    Why?

    I'm an Idiot.

To this end, I'm inserting a PIC of a P-90 expanded. Can anyone help

this poor, brain-dead git player understand better? Use pic if helpful.

  10. P-90 USERS, please "weigh in"/comment on this technique. I've

always used either Single coils (Strat) or Humbuckers, NO experience

    with P-90s.

Always notice whenever little tips and tricks show up - possible

inclusion in Epi Lounge "DIY" Sticky/Thread? I'll do some research for similar

solutions now that I've read HOW Brickster86 did it. Gives me more defined

    search terms.

  11. Hi,I have an S310 and I dont know how to trace the year it was made the serial number is JI98080030... I boought to some guy in mexico for $80 and i would really like how much it costs and everything, but i haven't been able to find out the year.

    Can someone help me?

I have visions of - "psssssst! Senor, Senor! Want to buy this guitar I have

hidden under my overcoat? I make you goooood deal, eh?" [biggrin]

    Well.....

    Guitar Dater Project says:

Your guitar was made at a factory not yet added to the database (JI)

    August 1998 (9808)

    Production Number: 0030

RobinTheHood (RTH) has made a spec sheet....

    http://epiphone.3house.com/

Click on S-310 or S-310 Custom (which ever is yours), look at drop-down box,

has pics and descpription to help you verify WHICH is the one you have.

Then check Ebay for any listings - for example:

    '93 EPIPHONE GIBSON S-310→Black Strat Beauty‼ reduced! Buy it Now - $179.00

This answer may not be seen by many folks. If you re-post it in the ELECTRICS section

as a NEW thread, more folks will see it. It's just that not many people check to see what

new questions are added to this thread. Pete.R WILL check, for sure. He's the MAIN MAN for this

thread. If you DO a new thread, post pics if you can. If you don't know how, check the Do-it-yourself"

EPI Lounge thread, under "posting pics" section.

  12. They are just "practice" cables.

I use the "dinky" cords for my Korg Tuners. I keep a Korg CA-30 and

a "dinky" cord in the pocket of every git case I have. Just coil up cord,

put in case, that way, no matter which git I grab, I have a tuner and cord

ready to go... Of course, in every case I ALSO have picks, a CHAMIOS, a

small screwdriver, a 6" machinist's ruler, a spare set of strings, a strap...

  13. Thank you so much' date=' animalfarm! I love this guitar. Any clue on the model by any chance? It looks exactly like a "Les Paul 100 Ebony" with these 3 visual differences:

It doesn't say "les Paul" on the headstock

the truss rod plate reads "gibson"

Different tuning machines than that of the '100 Ebony'

It's ok if you don't have that info. I appreciate the help![/quote']

Take pictures, then start a "please help ID this Model EPi LP" thread

in the Electrics section. Here's a link to how to post photos frpm

the EPI "Forum Feedback" section, unless you already have a

    Photobucket or Imageshack account!

Look forward to the pics, and Welcome aboard! [biggrin]

  14. My main guitar since the mid-ninties has been my Epiphone Les Paul.

I got it in 1996 at the Guitar Center in El Cerrito California.

    Serial Number: F5090321

Something that throws me off... The Neckplate reads: "Hand-crafted in Korea by

Epiphone. The Epiphone Company Nashville Tennessee USA"

So it says Korean made yet the Serial number starts with F which makes me think it's Japan made.

    Guitar Dater says:

Your guitar was made at the

    Fine Guitars Plant, Korea

    September 1995

    Production Number: 0321

F = Fine Guitars Plant, Korea (for NON-Elitist Models, which yours is).

    5 = 1995

    09 = September

    Prod. # = 0321 for that month

Manual/Visual verification of Factory code in Original Post

matches the Production Plant indicated by Guitar Dater.....

  15. Hi' date=' I've been looking for a nice epiphone lp online and came across this. I've read the first post but have no idea how to decode this serial. Obviously J means it's made in Japan but from there I have no idea.

    The # is J11513936

    [/quote']

Do you have any idea at all if git is 1991 or 2001?

I keep seeing this breakdown in my mind, but I may be confusing it

with something else... Maybe a Gibson breakdown? Cannot find the site

    I saw this on.

    J = Japan

    1 = 2001?

    151 = 151st day of year (May 31st)

    3966 = production number
