  1. Absolutely one of my top fav songs from Gil and Dave.
  2. Windmills, the Calgary Folk Festival usually has some pretty impressive artists. I go almost every year. It runs for 2.5 days. I was waffling on which day to go because there's some serious talent on both days, but this recent announcement tipped me over the edge! If you do decide to come, let me know and we could meet there! Suburude (also on this forum), Mrs. Suburude and I met one year at the Redmond Washington folk fest. Gillian was playing there too. They put on such an amazing show. This year there's a ton of great talent: Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Mary Chapin carpenter, Chris Isaak, and a whole lot more. Anyway, here's a link if you're interested........ http://www.calgaryfolkfest.com/artists/
  3. (gulp) I'm going to try Fred but this bloody horse is costing me a fortune!
  4. It's rush seating, so you can bet your last dollar I'm going to be lined up at the gate with my running shoes on at 0700 hours on July 28. This old girl can still run!
  5. Sorry, no new guitar, but........ GILLIAN WELCH IS COMING TO THE CALGARY FOLK FESTIVAL ON JULY 28!!!!!!
  6. If that is the one with Gwyneth Paltrow, I couldn't get through the movie. (we don't have a barfing smiley?!) I thought the acting was horrible (sorry Gwyneth). The soundtrack is supposed to be good tho.
  7. For the life of me I can't remember the actual specs but I recall the neck was too thick for me. That being said, my J-185 has a larger neck than the Southern Jumbo and I loved the sound so much I just darn well got used to it! I wish I could remember more about it. It was in a used guitar shop here in Calgary, was a sunburst too. It sounded great but was overpriced. Also, the guy who was shopping with me questionned its authenticity. Bottom line tho'..... it sounded great.
  8. Are you guys nuts? Those are great shoes!!!!
  9. When I first got that album I'll bet it sat in the CD player for a month! I learned at least half the songs on it too Can't play Bread and Water like that tho'
  10. Me too! I almost bought one about a year and a half ago. Nice BIG sound. The only problem for me was the neck.
  11. Oh this is WONDERFUL news!! I am so happy for you both! Congratulations Scott! You deserve happiness and I am so glad that you have found it. You guys are a good looking couple!!
  12. I apologize if this has already been posted. Ryan Bingham is a pretty talented guy. And he does play Gibsons! I thought this was a pretty good video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUwrsI0yWL0&feature=relmfu
  13. Yeah, I always think how much easier it would have been in my teens if I'd had YouTube! We learned songs from word of mouth..... someone's brother knew a song and we'd get bits and pieces of it then try and put it together. We couldn't afford books!
  14. I do this a lot. I have a few favourites and am always looking for new favourites. I've been told it's not good to play along with YouTube videos because I'll never develop on my own, but I don't know if I believe that or not. I think it's just another way to have some fun playing guitar. If you do play along, care to share your favourites? Here are two of mine..... Gunnin' For You by Hang Jones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec7kLmC57jo Play Something We Know by Adam Hood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLoNE-QxRH8
  15. http://www.justgreatguitars.com/product/Acoustic/66-Gibson-J45-tone-hound.aspx Not that this helps any
  16. Wow! What a great story! I wonder who the guy is, and where he is now? Maybe he'll resurface now that this video has been done. And didn't that J45 sound great?
  17. It's actually quite sunny and warm here in Calgary today. But it's supposed to snow on Wednesday so I guess I'd better enjoy it while it lasts. Happy Easter everyone!
  18. Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it! I've got video of the pants only. Here's me trying to learn that blasted little run in Chris Isaak's Wicked Game. I finally gave up.
  19. If you really want to know...... my fleece Buddweiser pants, my Gibson T-shirt and my pink bunny slippers.
  20. I'll take the vine (raises hand in the air enthusiastically)!
  21. I just finished playing No One Needs To Know Right Now (Shania Twain) in the bathroom, sitting on the edge of the bath tub. That's about as weird as it gets for me.
  22. I watched part of it. I was surprised by how many of the artists sounded pitchy. I know my ex used to always say, if all the artists sound pitchy, suspect the monitors are at fault. Anyway, I always find awards shows a bit like sitting on an old couch...... sometimes you find a spot that's comfy but every now and then you get a spring jabbing your behind. The wedding ceremony was weird, IMHO, but I really like Miranda Lambert so her performances were worth the springs. Check out Oklahoma Sky by Miranda Lambert..... one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I've ever heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKTUZ-ig57M
  23. OMG what an absolute doll she is! So cute!! She's starting early, by the looks of it!
