  1. We've got a fair number of pawn shops in Texas. Usual junk - tools, jewelry, of questionable provenance. But they also sell previously owned guns and guitars - more than one way to shoot yourself in the foot !
  2. Crazy Heart - great movie. Lots of good songs. You nailed that one Rog.
  3. Danger, danger Will Robinson. We should only trash Gibsons here - leave Martins in peace.
  4. ... when the thrill is gone, and you don't miss it.
  5. Yep... I think it's the latest TikTok Challenge !
  6. Welcome! Lots of folks here from Europe - I'm sure they have no trouble finding nuts, saddles, pins and other 'animal parts' ! As OrdNimda suggested - a tricky business - you should get someone who knows what they're doing, based on a solid rep and recommendation. G'Luck !
  7. Jason H... I don't know how long you've had it, or how honest the pawn shop is ... but you might try returning it if you paid a Gibson price for a counterfeit. If they did not tell you it could be a fake - the implication is it wasn't. Like a Rolex - you can't really tell until you get an expert to look at it. When the Romans coined the warning "Caveat Emptor" - they didn't have to deal with knockoffs from China! G'luck! As far as the negative comments - equal numbers on both sides. As Sgt.Pepper said - it is what keeps this place from being deadly boring. Yeah, sometimes some of us here, now and then, fire off One Line, Snarky Comments... most of us occasionally get in that funk now and then and let it show. We all have different takes on edgy comments - I saw nothing wrong with GhostFLA's response to the OP's query which had No Useful Information. This is, after all, Social Media - not Miss Abagail's Finishing School For Young Ladies.
  8. I've read it was Col. Parker. He tried to make the lives difficult of the band - at times, even after Elvis took off and was making millions, they were getting paying $100-200 a week (around $1200 today) and their families were living with relatives. I'm assuming Col. Parker did not want ANYONE getting any credit EXCEPT Elvis. Wonder how Tom Hanks handled that grainy detail in the movie? And, speaking of guitar sidemen - Cash's Luther Perkins was another legend back in that era.
  9. Get back to us when you can cut and paste a couple of photos here, and know if the Truss Rod has a 5/16ths Hex wrench nut.
  10. Two screws is one small indication it may not be a knock-off. Why, exactly, do you think it might be? You're asking us to 'prove a negative'.
  11. 'Can provide pics and serial number if necessary.' More info would be necessary than what you originally posted. But, for starters, how many screws does the TRC have ?
  12. Yep. I can see not picking up a guitar because it doesn't pass 'the sniff test', but once you see one that talks the talk, you've got to give it at least five minutes to see if it walks the walk.
  13. Great - now I've got a new song to add to the top of my 'Learn" list. Excellent break there too !
  14. RBP - maybe I missed it, but how did it turn out ?
  15. Yep. His "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down" is inspiring. It inspires me to try it about once a month. Takes a month to get up enough courage to try again !
  16. Great Job ! Yes, a super guitar. Looking forward to "Back In Your Arms"... Mavericks version is a classic!
  17. Back to George Jones ... in 1980 his release of "He Stopped Loving Her Today" has been judged many times as 'the best country music song ever'. So, maybe he knew something ...
  18. Now I know what happened to that kite I was flying, back in the 50s.
  19. We should form a sub-forum 'English Lit Majors Anonymous". You described exactly why I got off FarceBook (speaking of 'books').
  20. Agree... I was an 'English Major' (aka Literature Geek) for my first 2 years. 'Paradise Lost' was my wake up call. I realized I'd probably never be able to afford a second Gibson guitar writing prose and poetry for Hallmark greeting cards. But I really did like Thoreau - "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation." in his Civil Disobedience. Walden Lake, etc.
  21. I finally finished my "Marketing 101" textbook. Now on to "Sociology 101". Probably would have gotten more than a "B" in those courses if I'd finished the books back before the final exams.
  22. We didn't have that in our school. Maybe because our nuns belonged to a different order. Wonder what the Jesuits did?
