  1. Yep. I brought my LG1, purchased new a yea+ earlier, to college. Roomie was mad about something, not paying attention and opened his drop down desk top which fell on it, leaving a minor dent. Tight quarters in a single wide. Welcome AexCa !
  2. K'sD, thank you posting this. I remember GS well. He was a good guy, obvious even when only experienced in the impersonal ether of the internet.
  3. I was just trying to see how many steps removed we could get from the OP....
  4. Mandolins are great. Except for the narrow necks. Short frets. Four pairs of strings. Weird tuning. Small stature. Limited application.
  5. Anne, that was touching. Timely. Would make anyone stop what they're doing and sit down and really think. What a song should do! I'm sure you know, a song like this taking a year to percolate is worth the wait. Jumbos with old strings. Like old pickup trucks. Thanks.
  6. Agree, the ones I've got on my J45 Custom are nearly 10 and work great. Look clunky, can't see the gear, which is cool. But I supose it keeps the dirt out.
  7. He was in The Dominican Republic making a movie. I guess I tend to undervalue and dismiss the hard work people actually do. You watch a two hour movie and think the actor had a great time making it, it took him two hours and he got paid $2 million. RIP.
  8. I think you should consider going to a Guitar Center that has a J45 and spending some time with it. The shape, construction, etc. is similar to an LG1,2,3 and the larger size is negligible. I think you'll enjoy the sound so much, you'll forget the fact it's a smidgeon bigger.
  9. PdH, of course, luthier route safest. I've sanded down saddles and it's trickier than you'd think. Natural hand motion will cause it to wind up uneven and rounded - so you'll be worse off than when you started. You need to have some type of a tool-like guide to keep it from rocking and rolling. And mark it with a fine liner so you don't take off too much. Or too little. Sgt.Pepper's idea of taking a full day class for $200 sounds interesting. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing ..." I certainly need a little more ! Let us know what the diagnosis and solution turned out to be. G'Luck!
  10. Centerfield, albeit not a CCR product, is pure Americana. Although not the musical genre that has taken on that name.
  11. Good on you ! Not just a 'keeper' ! For you, asserts the question "If I could only have one guitar" !
  12. Sorry I’m late to this…. I was over at the Rolex site telling everyone that my Timex keeps perfect time. To answer the OP’s question “Is the Gibson L00 worth 2400 Euros?” Yes. Because people are buying them at that price. You didn’t ask if it’s worth that TO YOU, fortunately, or you would have gotten a lot of silly responses.
  13. Of course. Absolutely. Just thought I'd point out the fact that Norlin era guitars are generally believed to be less desirable to those who can't road test every potential purchase. So a pre-Norlin date would mean his mother's guitar is probably more desirable overall. He was asking about the specific year, not the sound quality, which he seems to be very happy with, so, being from Australia - I guessed he'd want any additional insight re. 'era'. And, again YES ... - Caveat #1 - tone and playability are #1. But, sometimes we have to sort the pepper from the flyspecks based on Make, Model, era, condition, price, location... before we can go find out about tone and playability. I should have added that caveat and not generalized.
  14. EIM, you seem to be enjoying this more than the OP, from whom we've only heard crickets since (s)he posted the general question. 😀 The real question is - Do you have to go down a Rabbit Hole to find that perfect, ethereal Tone ?
  15. That's really interesting. Thanks. I think several of us here are close to having the same types of issues with our hands. And, WELCOME !
  16. To most, the exact year would be of lesser importance than the fact it appears to have been produced before the less desirable Norlin era.
  17. If you want something fancier than the plastic or aluminum ones in stores that run $2 (or use to, go to guitarsaddles.com where you can also get a new endpin to match.
  18. Gibson might do better in terms of dollars and sense if they put this exact guitar in their lineup, rather than a signature guitar Dave Mustaine's Ebony Songwriter.
  19. OP - So, is short scale, hog , slope shouldered a given? Are you just talking about 'everything else' ?
  20. Our daughter found out their 6 month old city dog pound rescue puppy (mostly Great Pyrenees) has distemper. Took my 2 dogs for a long walk - one at a time.
  21. Impressive to go through the list of past performers at ROMP: Billy Strings, Robert Earl Keen, Rhiannon Giddings, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Prime, Merle Haggard. Tommy Emmanuel this year.
  22. Outstanding! You have nailed the age old question "If you could only have one guitar on a deserted island?" I'm pretty sure if you take that out into the sun - the back will become translucent and iridescent. Make you want to cry.
  23. Only one I ever like was Godfather2.
