  1. I KNOW I'm not the only one who really doesn't care what sort of contrived BS the media cooks up each week.

I rarely find myself in agreement with ANYTHING published in People - or the National Enquirer for that matter.

To use anything from either source as an excuse to tangle in a forum seems a little... wasteful....

  2. Neo...just out of curiosity' date=' have you ever tried top wrapping your strings? [/quote']

Not on any of my guitars.

Played probably a dozen Les Pauls strung that way though.

Looked like sh!t, played no differently, and seeing the stress on those posts made me cringe.

Kinda like watching somebody drive the wrong way onto the freeway - sooner or later....

Your first post cracks me up.

    You're welcome.

    :-)

If this were a thread on having your guitar autographed by somebody famous' date=' I'd say the exact same thing.[/quote']

    You already have.

We've fully and completely established that already' date=' in several threads, repeatedly, ad nauseum.

Those old LPs had ABR-1 bridges.

Every LP I have has an ABR-1; all my tailpieces are slammed and none of the strings touch the back of the bridge.

An advantage the ABR-1 has over the Nashville, I suppose.

All my tailpieces are slammed and none of the strings touch the back of the bridge either.

Been that way since 1993, like I said...

I've tried it and it DOES feel different. The strings feel looser than normal. I didn't like it but others may.

    So' date=' we agree then?

    No?

Sounds like we actually agree to me....

Then what exactly is the point of your post?

My ex-wife used to do that...

Start an argument, well, not really an argument, but just to be a bit contrary, and for what?

Not really to make a point, because as it unfolded there really was no point to be made.

Still, I had to be careful to not disagree and "start" a fight - even though I didn't know what the hell she wanted.

When it was all settled and done, and she would leave the room pouting, I still had no clue.

Facts were facts beforehand, nothing had changed, and had I just listened to her go in circles for an hour.

    For what?

    Didn't you just recently [b']marry[/b] a woman?

    :-)

  3. Fxcks EVERYTHING up....

    [angry]

    Okay, I'm kidding.

    :-)

I don't like it, I don't understand what anybody sees in it, and I don't recommend it.

    But hey, that's just me...

If (insert guitar god's name here) does it, then it must be cool, eh?

  4. I liked either/or back when they had glass bottles and used real sugar.

It's still available, still bottled that way in many other countries - like Mexico.

With my relative proximity, I can get it in many stores in the Phoenix area.

    Tastes like dirt.

I'm not the only one around here who thinks so.

When I saw that display of bottles with real sugar, I was joyous!!!

    Now, not so much.

Why is nothing ever like we remembered?

    I prefer Coke.

Even when I worked for Pepsi one summer out of high school.

  5. My hands are far from little

    Same here.

Players I meet laugh at me when I say I prefer slim necks, I guess because I'm a big guy.

Try playing a Rickenbacker or some of the old stuff from the sixties. Super thin AND super skinny.

I sold my first two Les Paul Standards because I was more of a Fender guy and could never get used to

the "fat" necks on them. Same with my 1972 Martin D-35, the more I played it the less I liked it.

It doesn't bother me much anymore, but the '60 Slim Taper is still my ideal.

All 6 of my Gibsons have it.

  6. Yep.

Seems my wife would side with many who want to show them off.

I'm with Yoda, when I close the doors there's nothing to see but a couple of big wood cabinets.

Display is not what I had in mind.

They are safe, secure, somewhat hidden, and free from dust collecting on them.

    :-)

  7. That price tag is what kept me from doing that.

I looked at a company in Montana, too much $$$$.

Then I found a guy in Scottsdale, Arizona and drew up some plans for a bid.

Before I could make a decision, he had a heart attack and sold all his wood-working stuff.

    Screw it, I gave up.

My wife insisted that we get something to display mine, I kept fighting her on on the matter.

Then she found some cabinets without all the fancy glass for a lot less money.

I have less than $3,000 in a couple cabinets like this.

If we build another house, things will be much different.

It will have a large dedicated guitar/game room where I can build some cases in place.

And whatever the wife thinks is pretty.....

  8. Aw, come on.....

    Spam ain't so bad.

I made some fried Spam sandwiches just last week!

And those are indeed nice cabinets.

Maybe the whole 'hint of impropriety" thing could have been avoided by simply posting the cabinet pics.

If interest was shown, the original poster could have then replied with "I can build these if you're interested..."

    Just sayin'....

    ^_^

  9. '59 bursts

The one Keith Richards used in the 60's had a bigsby

Yeah, I've seen a few over the years but I have no idea if it was the same couple of guitars or if there were actually many made.

I saw one pic of Richards with his from those early days (he didn't look like a cadaver) and I wonder if he still has it.

    No tellin' with Keef....

  10. Randy Bachman of Bachman Turner Overdrive (BTO) has an original '59 with a factory Bigsby.

Used it since his days in The Guess Who with Burton Cummings.

This has got to be one of the least photographed Les Pauls in the world, I had little luck finding any pics.

I don't know why more people don't know about it.

Anyhow, I found a long but interesting article done on him recently.

Covers all kinds of good stuff like Les Pauls new and old, his major involvement in Gretsch, widely varied musical career, and another guitar that has always held some intrigue for me - the Johnny A.

    Check it out;

    Oh, and Gibson...

If you're listening, how about a Randy Bachman signature?

Cherry sunburst, killer top, Bigsby, and SHINY paint and hardware.

    Do a '59 and a '60 so there's a choice in necks, eh?

  11. 1. Yes.

    2. There may be a difference with the damping effect of the spring steel, but in my experience I can't see it.

    3. Yes, same as any other factory trem with the possible exception of PRS. Depends on your aggression I guess.

    Plenty of sustain here.... :-)
