  1. Karen, just typical of me that I start looking back at the end of the year. Miss your presence on the Forum. Sorry to have learned of your 'horsey loss'. I hope things will 'brighten up' for you in the upcoming year and all will be well in your world!

  2. +1 ..BK! I like Nitro, and all of the wierd, organic things that it does. I feel like quick temperature changes have a large effect on nitro-finishes also!
  3. Oh yeah! The secret handshake. Extend your index and pinky fingers whilst clasping the hand of the greeter. They will 'get it' and 'know' that you and 'he/she' are Colossi 'brothers/sisters' and all will be well and in sync with your bodies and minds for 'only' as long as you hold 'that' grip ....and after that....well you MUST perform some other physical contortions to make you 'one with the world'.....
  4. I don,t get it....This guy adamsjs69 makes a gripe back in June over a guitar he bought in January and 25 replies later he ain't replied/responded to anything!!! Ain,t told you about all the time's that he left it in a hot car.... Your wasting your breathe....just like talking to a politician,,,,
  5. Love your profile pic! Nice guitar...Nice hat!

  6. ol fred...First of all , how old are you? I'll be 58 this year and have back issues for half of those. Never got a diagnosis from a real Doc, but have been going to the same chiropractor for 12 years or so. That keeps me barely mobile, minimal pain and functioning...Ha!

Are you able to get disability? Don,t know how much longer I can deal with the 'physical nature' of my job...

  7. Just send it to me....I'll take care of it.....
  8. The HAVE to glue them down so they don,t fly away
  9. Very sweet and clean! Congratulations....
  10. Thanks Triumph1050, for basically 'nailing it on the head'! I wish I could have said that. That is definitely where I was coming from, but could not attach those words to my thoughts. I don,t care to comment anymore on the post. It was stupid to start with. I owe you a 'debt of gratitude' for saying it.

FWIW, Fortyearspicking PM,d me to say that he was 100% with me...Go...

  11. Thanks FortyearsP..,for the support. I know I,m not crazy. I figured there was 'someone' out there that read it like I did. Thank God for the people of the 'Great State of Texas'. You guys will be the 'champions' of the 'Final Battle'.

Well written PM to me. I agree!

  12. Hey,Its all good! You are 'spot on' with your words. Its all about the guitars, anyway. I have also turned some threads in my time! My new signature could be..... "I use to turn heads.....now I turn threads"... <_< Sometimes accidentally and other times intentionally, just to get the excitement of "hitting a hornets' nest" . I realize that this post was a bit of a stretch..(about as exciting and subjective as a discussion of bridge pin materials) .....But it has been enlightening.....Now hmmmmm...where is my saw
  13. This debate has gone on for many years so the only way for you to resolve it is to start sawing. Like most things in life you may want to leave it alone and get one of the many copies of Clarence's guitar. No flames necessary! Just chill a little Hogeye! I haven,t got the 'debate' out of my system and not ready to get the Dremel and router out quite yet! First off ,we were talking Gibson Jumbo....Not some dead man,s 'wallowed-hole' D28!(although it turned to that).... And yes EMinor7, The J-100 is 'rather persuasive' Rod
  14. Okay, Nice dissertation on the Clarence White'd soundhole effect RAR. I would say that size would make a difference.... especially to the extremes. I think we can safely assume that the 'standard' Gibson soundhole is 4"? I did some googling and found that the the Robert Johnson L1 has a 3-3/4" soundhole. The vintage 'Century of Progress' small bodied Gibson has a 4-1/8" soundhole. Thinking on the lines of 'standard templates' for building different models of Gibsons, I would think there is a 'rhyme to the reason'....?? Now get them measuring sticks out.... ;)
  15. I haven't......Yet! I firmly believe this J100 would be a candidate. I just feel that a little bigger soundhole would really open the sucker up tonally. It is a fairly loud guitar when strummed hard, but I can,t help but think that it could be better...Rod
  16. Oh yes, it does thicken. As Columbo would say...."Oh yes Anne S...just one more thing. Was said measurement taken with a steel ruler or a tape measu.......?" Bwaa-ha-ha . Thanks a lot for checking yours. Hopefully others will weigh in and I can reach a consensus.. or not Rod
  17. I just noticed the other day, while I had my '72 J100 out and next to my Guild jumbo JF-30, that the soundhole in my Gibby looked smaller than the the one in the Guild. It is quite noticeable as they both have jumbo body shapes. For kicks and curiosity, I broke out the 6" rule and measured the diameter of both. The J100 measured a full 3-7/8". The Guild measured almost 4-1/8". For comparison, I checked my CF100E(smaller LG shape). It measured 4". I don,t have a dread-shape Gibson at this time to check its measurement. For those of you with Gibson jumbos(J100,J200), I am curious what the soundhole diameter is on your guitars? Is 4" diameter standard on J45,SJ's etc. and jumbos slightly smaller? This may be trivial....but it has my curiosity up. My Early 70's J100 is a rather obscure Gibson. Other than the brief description in Gruhns guitar ID book, I don,t find much info on it. It has 70's features but has the orange oval label(from '60,s and is X-braced.Plus a smaller than 4" soundhole! I often thought it may have been a prototype or employee guitar. Heres a pic of the body(mahogany B&S and spruce/maybe cedar top)
  18. No I ain,t ever seen one of those. If its true...how much more convoluted can Gibson make their 'traditional' models?? JEEEEESH! Its BAD enought that they make the J-45 in 95 different wood combinations and toners and bracing etc......But now they want to call a J-50 a natural top J-45....JEEEEEESHHH again! Give me a break!! Ya'll go on and buy one of them 'rare' anomalies. I'll stick with 'tradition'.
  19. I think most of us would be 'dealers looking for lower prices'....
  20. Kind of funny...Use to be...the volute years, were undesirable! Now-a-days...they are worth gold...or so it would seem! That original request did seem a little odd. I have a client that wants any or all of these guitars...all of the classic collectables! They are out there dude..advertised ...all over...for a price. Pay it and go on your happy way. ...Or did you really mean, you have a client that wants to get these guitars for a steal or a really low price??? What-Eeever!!!
