  1. John, keep doing what you're doing. This ASCAP crap ebbs and flows. They're definitely a pain and they do frighten some business owners, but then they kind of disappear for a while and things calm down. Keep playing and focus on writing some songs. It's a blast. Plus, it will help make you a better picker.

  2. On the J60, I believe the neck may be a bit wider than my other Gibsons. All the necks are comfortable for me, but this one in-particular is real easy to play.....Thanks for you kind words......

  4. If you think of selling that J60, let me know. I'm in the market for another Gibson. It looks real nice. Congrats on a sweet guitar.

  5. Found this, but don't really know if this is it. http://www.yelp.com/biz/grant-guitars-fountain-valley-2 The information is pretty vague. None of the links lead to anything having to do with Grant Guitars. We all make our own choices, but keep-in-mind that there are a lot of lower-priced guitars that "kick butt," and lots of people own them and know a lot about them. Yamaha, Epiphone, Mitchell, Ibanez, and many, many more. I wish you the best.
  6. The Gospel guitars mentioned in regard to being made in Canada---did these come from the Garrison location? Also, does anyone have any info on what is being done at the Garrison plant?
  7. Good point on the cost of the Gospel. I hadn't even thought of that. Is it's quality better than the Epi Masterbilts? The Masterbilts consist of some very nice guitars.
  8. I hope you get this resolved in your favor. I do believe you should have involved Gibson immediately. Your dealer, whoever it is, sounds a bit shady. My experiences with GC is that they will advise you to not use a tech/repairman who is not authorized by the company who made the guitar. Your dealer, whoever it is, should have told you the same, or at least have issued some paperwork explaining it. Our GC here tells you upon purchase that you have 45 days to return the guitar, and if it's a Gibson, Martin, or Taylor that you need to have repairs done through the builder and with their authorized techs. GC, here, has two techs, but they will not work on Gibsons, Martins, Taylors for anything much more than a setup and string changes if the guitar is under warranty. Fortunately, it appears that no work was done on the guitar by these other techs. From what's been written, it doesn't sound as if the dealer is on your side. I hope you do tell us who it is. Ordering a high-dollar instrument over the net is risky. We've all come to trust certain dealers. Hopefully, that trust remains...Good luck.
  9. I don't hear a problem with it. Anyway, it's usually best to change the strings to something you prefer.........To me it sounds pretty good.
  10. I usually play Lites on all my guitars. Don't know if I have a favorite brand. I use lots of name brands.
  11. Karen, very sorry to hear that your horse is gone. It's not easy losing a "best friend." I've never lost a horse, but I have lost dogs that were my "best friend." I wish you the very best. God Bless you and your's.

  12. I like that song. Not just because it is a Beatles song. I like the way you do it. I'd like to hear it on something more substantial than an Iphone. Sounds a bit muffled.....You sing well. Soft and warm vocals go nicely with the guitar. Be great to hear, maybe see it on something different.......Hope to hear/see more of your material. I enjoyed it, my friend..
  13. Gibs, you are an absolutly splendid guitar player. You make it all look so natural. I sincerely enjoy your songs.
  14. Thanks, my friend. I appreciate it.

  15. Matthew, you definitly play above my level. I not only enjoy your music, I'm a bit invious of your skill..lol...I've heard your music before and you are truly a skillful picker. I admire the hard work and dedication. Keep doing what you're doing.....Very cool.
  16. Hey Doug! I like that alot. Fogelberg wrote some real folksy stuff and you "do it justice." That big Gibby records very nicely. I truly enjoyed hearing you. Don't make us wait so long for the next one.
  17. Welcome home, my friend..........Larry Garrett 9th Infantry, Tracker Dog Squad. july67-sept69

  18. Sweet version of the Old Friends/Bookends. Really nicely done. I enjoyed that.
  19. I like that. Great chemistry between him and her as well. Seeing them sing it adds to the song.
  20. If I Could Read Your Mind------Gordon Lightfoot
  21. that is one cool guitar you have under "This Is The Life." Love it.

  22. Interesting, Jeremy. I've never even considered that. Here in the Midwest USA the seasons are pretty steady. Very few drastic changes between seasons. It's all pretty gradual (usually). All I do is tweak the truss rod, try different strings, etc. If there's anything beyond that I send it out. Come to think of it, I file-down nut slots too if a guitar's intonation might be off, or if a string is ringing on and on...Maybe I've been doing for decades some of what you're talking about. Maybe I'm better at this than I give myself credit for because I really don't know what I'm doing........But trust me on this----you don't want me fixing your guitar.....lol.......Thanks, Jeremy, you got me thinking.
  23. I totally understand the disappointment that adam has. You have an expensive and very nice guitar that you are proud to own....then out-of-the-blue something appears to be not right, and it's not. However, as others have said, "mistakes happen," and they do. My 714ce had a cracked nut and I never knew it until I got it home. Talk about pissed...lol....Don't know if it was missed by taylor, happened after being shipped, etc., etc,........but they got me a new one very quickly...My advice: if you like the guitar and the problem is fixed......have a blast playing it....Besides, absolutly NOTHING made by human beings (expecially when a lot of it is made with their hands) is perfect. Likewise, I've had the saddle slip out while I'm changing strings. You've GOT to put it back in just like it originally was......Also, I've NEVER done a setup every six months. Once I have a guitar setup, aside from something out of the Twilight Zone, that's how it stays. Don't change the saddle according to the season either. I hadn't heard of that before.
  24. Sounds like you got a sweet guitar. I've got a J150 and I love it. .........One thing about Gibsons------models are dis-continued, brought back, dis-continued again and then they show-up again. .......You've got a really nice guitar.
  25. Really cool files to watch and listen-to. Not only enjoyable, but inspiring...... Below is a link to some of my music. Most was written by me, aside from the old traditionals. I haven't done any of my own videos yet, though there are a few of me on youtube that I often wish were not there...lol.....Great, great thread. Ain't music cool?..... http://www.family-friendly-music.com/my_music_files
