  1. I’ll be retired 13-years next month.  Having a blast,  busier than ever, but it’s usually things I enjoy doing.  Everyday is the weekend.  If we’re lucky, we really do grow wiser as we grow older.  Little things that used to bother me mean very little now.  Basically, I just don’t give a crap about them anymore.  I think that I’ve finally matured into an adult.  Not saying I’ve grown-up.  It’s just that I understand what’s really important.   Hope I never grow-up.  That wouldn’t be any fun.  Everything for me now tends to revolve around family and playing music.  I’m pretty much where I want to be in life and I’m satisfied with who I am.  Wish I played guitar better, but I have one-hell-of-a-good-time just playing my coffeehouses, local festivals, and wineries.  Life ls good…….

Never really heard of him, which really doesn't mean anything.  But the passing of a musician is always a loss to mankind.

    Rest In Peace Sir.

Same here…..The world needs more musicians.  RIP!

As for playing out live, I think you just need to get out there and do it. I get the desire about being “ready,” but that is a relative term. I’ve known lots of songwriters who keep moving the goalposts on what they define as  “ready” and wind up never performing  in public. I’ve been to open mics where beginners have shown great “courage” but the audience supports them. Audiences WANT you to succeed. You’ll probably be nervous at first, but it goes away and you start having fun.

Amen!  ……..Lars,and you’ll likely see/hear people there who will inspire you…..and people who you play/sing/write better than.  Of course, do what you’re comfortable with, but you’re skills are better than you think.

  4. Went to an “open mic” last night.  Ended-up running the thing.  They asked me if I could host it starting in May.  I’ll open it with 45 minute set and then the folks who weathered the sound storm can play 2-3 songs each.  Thank you Nirvana Coffeehouse, in Independence, Mo……I’m busier being retired than when I was working.  The difference is that I’m really enjoying it.

  5. Lars, all of these comments in this thread  are well-intended.   I believe you know that……. The way I look at this is that you are telling us a story.  A “slice of life” from perhaps your own life, but which is also a story many of us have lived to one degree or another.  For me, the main thing is that you make a human connection with others.    Cash and Dylan.  Not great voices (and often being a little off-key) compared to the vast majority of pros, BUT, they certainly connected with hundreds of millions..  Their success was/is greatly do to the humanity that comes through in the music. ……Very few are great singers like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, K.D. Lang, and so many others.  I’ve always heard that Sinatra deliberately sang off-key a little bit, just to add interest to the song.  Anyways, as every one of us is saying, keep playing and writing.  you have found your niche.   ……I still think you need to get out to a coffeehouse and play your gentle music….Keep it going, buddy!

  6. Congrats, Anne!  Not a damn thing wrong with a Taylor.  High quality guitars.  We play what feels like us.  I’ll likely stick with my Gibbys and my Martin D35 Johnny Cash, but who knows what I might see at a guitar store somewhere?  Play it in good health for many years my friend.  God bless!

BTW—-serious question———When you buy a used Taylor, do they still give you a free toga, or is that just with the new ones?🤣[laugh]

    I think it's well written.

Same here……To me it’s someone longing for a love they haven’t had.   They’re not missing someone who has left.  They’re missing someone who has never been there.

  8. My wife and I just finished watching all nine seasons of Seinfeld on Netflix.  Never watched it when it was on TV.  Actually, it was really entertaining.  Very politically-incorrect.  They made fun of everyone, including each other and themselves.  Gays, women, men, priests, nuns, rabbi, immigrants, etc.  They didn’t miss anyone.  Reminded me of the old Saturday Night Live shows.

I've stopped caring to hear the excuses and apologies of people who are violent criminals.  They can go on Jerry Springer or start their own blog to whine and try to blame 'society'.  All I care about is the Justice System working and giving them the maximum penalty allowed by law.

Yes!  These people don’t take responsibility for anything.  The kind of people typically on Jerry Springer are a good example of why our country is falling apart.

Yeah, that Gibson quality and inconsistency thing just refuses to die.  These days 99% of Gibsons will sound fantastic, given some break-in time.  Yes, some have a few rough spots in the cosmetics, but to me that is part of what I love about the brand…not pristine, but like a great pair of old jeans…perfectly imperfect.
     Love Gibsons.

Exactly!  You must be one of those guys who doesn’t check inside your guitars for a spot of glue….lol….There’s a “Gibson mojo” and if someone doesn’t get it then they just don’t “get it.”
