    Fancy neck work.

You seeing Kiss in NYC for the last show?

No, I didn't. But, I did watch it on Pay Per View last night, though. They were supposed to play in Knoxville, which was the closest date to me, but it got canceled due to Paul being sick.

Very nice.   Congrats.  I have never owned/played an Ibanez guitar, but own a 6 string Ibanez bass, which is my #1.

I'm the on the opposite side, haha. I've never owned any of their basses. However, I have played quite a few of their basses and they've always been great.

  3. Hey, everyone! Been awhile since I have posted. I ended up getting a new guitar today from Reverb. It's a 2004 year model Ibanez SZ720.  I've had my eyes on one of these for years - since I was a kid. I used to have an SZ520 model years ago and I remember having a hard time deciding between it and this model when I got that one since I liked both. So, I ended up randomly choosing the 520 model. I wound up putting Seymour Duncan Blackouts in it. I ended up giving that one to my oldest brother. I got to thinking about that guitar and started missing it a little and remembered the 720 model and how much I really loved the look of it, too, and told myself if I were to get another one, I'd get the 720 model. Well, here we are, haha.  This guitar is absolutely beautiful in person! Pictures won't do it justice. Overall, it's pretty straight up, aside from some minor buzz on a few frets, which I'm going to have straightened out. I'm thinking about throwing some active pickups in it some day. For those who aren't familiar with the old SZ models and have the opportunity to check one out, do it! These guitars play fantastic and are build fantastic, too! They made a Prestige model or two in this series, too.

  4. So, I got a new one that came in today from Reverb. Been eyeballing it for a couple of weeks on there. Pulled the trigger on it and it came in today. It's a 2004 Ibanez RGT42. Double humbucker neck thru model. Has the Edge Pro 2 tremolo on it, which I've always liked those Ibanez Edge Pro tremolos. I personally like them way better than a Floyd Rose. You don't have to clip the ball ends off of the strings when changing strings. Built great and plays great, too. Happy with it so far!

  5. Personally, Monster cables have been the best I've used/tried so far. Long lasting and built like tanks, too.  I went over to jam with my cousin one day and I had a Monster cable with me.  He ended up dropping me off back home that night and on the way home, we kept hearing this rattling sound and started to think it might have been his car or something, so we puled over. Turned out, when I was putting my stuff in the back seat of his car, one end of my Monster cable fell to the floor and got caught in the door as I shut it and was hanging out hitting the road and door as we were driving. Luckily, we only went a couple of blocks. that end did get beat and scratched up. That was over 10 years ago and the cable still works. That was a good testament to me on how great quality they are.  True story.

The Rio Grande's website is gone from the net. I heard (can't confirm) the owner passed away and they must have folded. Too bad they make good pups. I used them a lot on Tele's, Strat's, LP's, and SG's when I had amps and guitars that plugged in.

Shame because I've always heard great things.  Odd, because the site still comes up on my end.

  7. So, I got the DiMarzio's installed in my PRS SE EG.  They sounded good, but I felt they sounded a little weak. Then, I realized that it came with 250K pots stock and probably should have got some 500K pots before I took it in to get the pickups installed. So, I took it back to the shop and they had some and I had them installed. Picked it back up today and much better. Sound like they should. Really hot and beefy sounding. Cleans up good, too. Going to be spending more time with it. I'm liking them a lot so far!

    Dig it.

I've played a lot of bass in my day and love it.

I started when a bass player quit in a country/50's rock band in the mid/late 70's. I knew the notes, but was a guitar player. The drummer was fantastic, and he taught me how to be a bassist. We'd do accents and trick break stuff, there was a guy who played sax and steel guitar. And sang and harmonized. He'd play sax on the 50's rock and steel on the country crying songs. I loved playing bass on the country swing stuff and the outlaw music was new back then and very hot.

I still have a Mexican Fender Jazz and a Carvin 4:10/redeye horn, R1000 rig.

    Very cool indeed.

I can understand that, since I'm primarily a guitarist, too. Bass is fun, too.  Nice! I have some Fender basses, too.  That Carvin setup is a beast of a rig. I had one at one point. R1000 head with a 4x10 cab and a 1x15 cab. Sounded awesome, but too much for me. Ended up parting with it. I guess it's me being primarily a guitarist, but I prefer a more easier layout.  Great rig, though! I've got an old USA made Peavey TNT bass amp with built in chorus right now and it's serving me well at the moment.

That's a distinctive bass there. Always admired Musicman.

    Enjoy !

I have, too. This sounds and plays great! I also have a Silhouette Special and that guitar is wonderful, too.

  10. Got a new bass today. Ordered it on Reverb last week and it came in today. It's a 2003 Music Man S.U.B model. I've been wanting a Music Man bass for years. I've been looking through Reverb for awhile and stumbled upon this one. What sold me on this one is that it's 100% passive. Passive EQ and pickup. I'm primarily a guitarist, so this is completely fine with me. Plus, I really like how it looks, too. Under $1,000, too. Yes, it is a USA a made model. Played it a bit acoustically and it feels great and built like a tank. Going to restring it and do some jamming on it in a bit.  Going to eventually get some Dunlop straplocks for it, too. Anyway, here's a picture:

Their prices are great, but it sometimes takes 5 weeks to get them. He hand winds them as ordered.

I noticed their prices are really good. I may have to try a set one day. Yeah, I can see that being the typical wait period since they're handwound.  Speaking of, have you heard of Klein pickups? I have a set of their Epic 55 pickups in onee of my M.I.M Fender Strats and those pickups are amazing! Some of the best single coils I've heard.

Nope. It’s easy. Rios are killer pups.

I heard they were. I was going to get their Run 'N Gun set for it, but the order never went through and got an email back almost like they were out of business or something. I went to search for their Facebook page to see if it was still up and to find out anything and I saw several people commenting on similar issues, too, and were also wondering what was going on. So, I ended up deciding on the DiMarzios after looking around and thinking about other options.

Check out Planet Tone pickups. I love 'em. With the exception of my 335 I have them in all my Gibsons

I have heard of them! I didn't even think about them when I was looking. I looked at their site awhile ago and they have some interesting stuff. I'd definitely consider them for a pickup upgrade next time I upgrade something.

When I was an electric guy I installed Rio Grande pups all the time.

Learn to solder and do it yourself. If I can solder anyone can.

I've heard good things about them.  I've thought about learning over the years, but I was always nervous and worried that I would screw something up. 🤣

  15. So, I finally decided on pickups for me PRS SE EG.  I decided on DiMarzios. Went with a DiMarzio Fast Track 2 for the bridge, DiMarzio Fast Track 1 for the middle, and a DiMarzio Pro Track for the neck. I knew I wanted something pretty hot. I originally went with the Rio Grande Run 'N Gun set, but I couldn't get them, so I had to go with something else - I made a post about that not too long ago. I looked at Bare Knuckle stuff, Lindy Fralin stuff,  Dimarzios, Duncans, etc. Had it narrowed down to the Bare Knuckle Cobras, Lindy Fralin Split Blades, and the DiMarzio Fast Track 2/Fast Track 1/Pro Track combo.  Ultimately finally decided on the DiMarzio set that I got because it's a set/combo I've been wanting to try for a long time.  Dropped the guitar at the shop today to get them installed!

And here's the guitar the pickups are going in:
