If you play it a lot it will dull where your picking/strumming arm rides if you live in an area where there are mosquitoes and you play outside (even in just your backyard) bug repellent will take the nitro surface off of it if you play out and you have a music or mic stand in front of you, you’re surely to nick it (esp end of headstock) bet if I took you to the car dealership we could find cars 40,000 to $80,000 that have paint issues just saying not picking

As Twang say; the angle of the strings over pickup based on nut to bridge. Nutt’n to worry about there hold for low E (and High E) at last fret measure top of pole of pickup to under side of string should be something like 4/32 to start and then lower to taste of sound using your ears too high you’ll get a wobbly sound

@Fearomoon who says the string can’t touch the first fret if you’re pressing the third fret? notes are made between the nut and the bridge saddle or a fret and the bridge saddle if your nut is too high you’ll pull notes sharp when fretting

@Fearomoon if you get string buzz on open strings then it’s probably too close not to be confused with other type of string buzz of low action and neck bow

@Master TJ if a fret is just a little high and you mash your finger to the fret board. Yup you’ll pull the note sharp. if it’s frets 1-4 don’t play open position 🫣😂 maybe get your guitar tech to reprofile your frets . as ‘pinch’ said if intonation is right at the 12th then is intonated

Actually don’t think there’s any ‘ magic’ setting in your first post you said you can’t rely on your hearing yet in your last post appears you are. so where do you go from here? lower the pickups use the pole screws (raise/lower) to get the note definition you’re looking for

1961 there were no single cut maple cap Les Paul's they didn't come back in that form till 1968. the 1961 Les Paul was a double cut, solid mahogany "SG" guitar labeled Les Paul.. Till Paul's Lawyer's told Paul it's not good for your divorce and your alimony settlement, which he contacted Gibson and said.. don't put my name on a SG; kill our contract. don't believe Gibson 'anniversaries' their guitars the way you're describing.

Almost nobody fakes a studio. many many many studios have no push/pull pots it seems like only when Gibson added the tribute line below the studio push the studio a bit higher they added push/pull pots you’ll need to look at the other well known tell tale signs of fake

None for me you have gold hardware and black pickup on a slate grey body. you might want to go clear or grey

I can’t remember when Gibson was using alternate wood like granadillo even on some custom you’ll have to look for other “fake factors” as well at one time people said the Norlin years were bad years yet their prices are walking up to high status remember you see it on the web “it has to be true”

I believe (usually proven wrong (but my wife isn’t here)). the middle pickup is the same as the neck pickup

First picture looks like a “new” chunk out of the fret board by the nut the other pictures look like the board had stain put on it and over the nicks

Take the truss rod cover off whats the adjuster nut look like?

@Olive actually most guitars are bought without COA’s so if someone is stuck on not buying a real Gibson guitar that doesn’t have a COA (esp when it would have been issued one) … we’ll they have the problem not the guitar

@Olive guess my post above doesn’t exactly say no not important but it certainly is implied COA really doesn’t provide “providence “ for guitar authenticity to a collector like Bonamassa or Segal “ case candy” adds value to historic guitars but not a deal stopper for them as long as one of the nearly “4,000” 1959 Les Paul sunburst they’re buying is real ( that’s a joke as there are less than 1800 LPs made from 57 to 61) i don’t think anyone on this forum (or any others) will pay more for a guitar cause it has the guitar center price hang tag and a few sticky labels and a QA check sheet but for the ‘modern day ‘ guitar now the quantity built daily will add little value in something like 30yrs

I disagree with having the pickups as close as you can without hitting the strings, the magnetic field of the pickups effect the strings, as close as you can will create a very loud output which Will probably not be a desirable tone, also pickups too close cause a wobbling sound as well, many lower the pickups as low as possible

Gibson imported wood to finish a guitar you’re carrying a finished guitar to play only thing customs is looking at at that time is , a) who are you playing for b) are you getting payment (ie money, or hotel, etc) c) are you authorized to work in said country

COA doesn’t state wood, customs knows that instruments are more than just personal objects like a Bic pen, you’re transporting a finished product not individual wood species COA is not important to customs

as stated.. old 'historic' guitars never came with one.. many people loose them anyways.. and as stated.. yes anyone with a printer can make one.. not important as a non-fake guitar is.

Gibson has one Major problem. guitar players. if they used a fret wire back xyz year and then change, players are up in arms, it’s not right its not tradition etc just make sure you don’t have any high frets to cause buz or fret out

They're called a Shroud. Not sure when it started, most cases don't have them now. If you Google you'll find a site Called Guitar Lingerie 🙈🤪, that will custom make them if you didn't have one and wanted one

@kidblast but he's able to get an 8thou Business card at 7th fret with capo on 1 and holding E's at 17th If he was back bowed enough to fret out 1 to 4 he would have any relief at the 7th

Remember relief is really between 5th and 9th frets. If you're buzzer 1 to 4 I'd say your nut slots at cut too low

Can you slide a Business card between the 7th fret and low/high E's? A business card is around 8 thou
