  1. Aren't the pot shaft lengths different on a Gibson vs Epiphone cause of the thickness of the maple?
  2. Um. Play it properly? There is a reason for tone controls on the amps. Unless you're playing a Fender Champ or Epiphone Valve Jr.
  3. Yup old problem I use http://www.ultimatesupport.com/gs-1000-pro.html GA1000 stand never had issues with long time use Havd to look at the guitar stand info, make sure it says Nitro safe. Really a $6 stand... how safe can it be? Or cover it as stated above
  4. looking at those 2 live shots of someone actually playing.. Doubt they wondered about if they were going to scratch their guitar.. or if Gibson made bad guitars...
  5. Yeah sure, I'm sure they need math skills to calculate the center of an object. Highly doubt they would do a math calculation.
  6. Yes hand inserted inlays off center by a millimeter or two is poor quality control
  7. At least you feel you can save sales tax in USA. In Canada you dont get out of the tax ever, online or retail. Dealer can offer a "save the tax event", which just means they pay the tax 13% off the item. That means they pay the tax
  8. 98% of all the stuff I read about in 'quality' is a) differences in wood.. so get a polly covered guitar and you'll never see a blemish in the wood b ) buying guitar's sight unseen relying on "cheaper" mail order companies that ship a million guitars a month and expecting all million guitars a month to be 200% perfect instead of a 1% defect rate yes I read.. "It's a 2hr drive to the guitar store.." Guess what.. in a big city.. it takes more than 2hrs just to drive across it.. and it's less than 40miles wide.. yet guys in the countryside can cover 200miles in the same time frame. Get your butt to a store; pick the guitar that talks to you.. play the finish off the guitar.
  9. Actually we do... it's a differential of electrical potential between two materials That differential has to be strong enough to jump the air gap At low voltage a static discharge. At high voltage... poof
  10. Clean your guitar with Naphtha That will clean the surface
  11. If it keeps coming back. I would guess the nitro body is still curing. Try cleaning the body /neck with naphtha, that should leave the surface residue free. Dont use polish as that should increase an extra compound .
  12. It's those Tone gods that say. Thou shalt not touch back of bridge. I've seen those posts over the years herr
  13. If you're in the store playing the guitar... look it over for finish issues before you buy Those that complain about QC are typically "mail order brides" and people complain because they didn't have them in their hands before purchase
  14. If you asked Robert Johnson or Django or BB or.... They'd say they were happy to have all 6 strings on their guitar And made great music with what they had Didn't worry about height of stop tails
  15. That course has 20 dvd's and 5 jam a long cds. That looks like the original version. He played multiple guitars then. A deal with Gibson had the whole lesson set refilmed with only Gibson guitars and they dropped the candles and blue light. Tab in that course goes away quickly. And teaches theory and music reading as well. Up to session 9 makes you a basic intermediate player. Session 10 and above expands playing skills
  16. You can always look and play, lusting over guitars never stops. "Upgraded" parts might not equal 'hogepoge' of parts. Tone and feel and looks that inspires you to play is were it's at Best guitar course that takes you from no nothing to advanced player, with note reading and theory background is https://www.learnandmaster.com/guitar/ Instructor lives in Nashville has a yearly conference too
  17. Can you take a picture of your pickups and of the board and plug please Think FZ is try to tell you , you'll need to cut the wire before the plug and solder your new pickup wire to the wire on the plug But to make sure what he/we are hearing from you. Better take pictures before cutting. Best off,, if unsure,,, take it to a tech for installation
  18. It's sad that lack of education and understanding a thick Maple cap can appear under a thin binding and that someone can call it a flaw. What's worse is a seller's lack of education and understanding could not educate the buyer.
  19. 3 guitars all same "flaw"???? Highly unlikely. I think you're seeing the binding is the same thickness all the was around and the maple cap comes out between the binding and the mahogany. But hey enjoy your next guitar
  20. Bluesy that binding issue you stated as wavey, was that in the cutaway area? And um yes wood does have imperfections. You might not get that with a Chinese guitar as I would suspect they use a "photo flame" top, thus looks perfect. I have been in the Memphis plant and yes a lot is done by hand I truly question what some consider bad qcc imperfections, Yes wiggly pots, etc I can see as issues,
  21. Searcy is right.. very bad idea to put paint on a Nitro bodied guitar if anything use more nitro.. but you better learn about it's application and reaction first before doing anything. (maybe just leave the dent alone) http://www.stewmac.com/SiteSearch/?search=nitrocellulose%20lacquer
