  1. I just purchased & received my Stew-Mac fret rocker. Been fighting similar problems with some of my acoustics. Found some variation on many frets that would explain some of the buzzing up/down the neck. Great tool & worth the $25 for sure. Now I'm going to order their fret leveler & see about fixing things. Will start with a cheaper git vs my J-45 to practice on. Aster
  2. So are you all saying I need to remove all my magnetic pup protectors I have stuck on all the electric guitars? Dang it, next I'll hear that I've got to take off all the vinyl covers from my leather furniture too. Where will it all end? Great info & demo Searcy!!! Aster
  3. Only dang think I'm listening to is my ears ringing to beat the bands. Tinnitus type ringing that is. Hope it lets up. I thinks it's from my sinuses and this stuffy air. Going to hear some live bluegrass on a little town square in an hour. Would that count? Aster
  4. So you're saying that Gibby is only "filling orders" with what is built? I guess that makes since, but isn't the way any of my business world works unless it's custom-custom. Well, if that's the way it works they could let a person know who's got them on order and you make an offer to the dealer that you selected to purchase. No muss, no fuss, no shipping. Just transfer paperwork. Man, I'd do that with my business for sure. Make a bit less, but never have to touch a product. YeeeHawww. Sign me up. Aster
  5. Stop, Stop I was only 1/2 blinded by the 1st photo. Now I'm blind as a bat from all that abalone bling!! Beautiful guitars. I'll keep my eyes open for either a J or SJ. I guess I'd just as soon have one w/o any electronics in it as I don't play for pay. I'm also having some Hummingbird pangs too. What's a Mother to do? Thanks again all!! Aster
  6. Thanks for all the answer's & info!! It is difficult to locate some of these to go & play or see in person w/o a MAJOR road trip. To bad a guy can't go shopping out at the Factory and then have it paid for thru a dealer. You could select from ready to ship, make the deal on price with the dealer, pay for it, pick it up and head for home. I'd incorporate that into a vacation trip out west for sure. Aster
  7. The Maple is a beauty but I may have to opt for the Vintage Sunburst. Gibson does that finish THE BEST IMHO. Aster
  8. Hi Ya'll, I may have contracted G.A.S. again as I've been laying very low for a LONG time. I'm intrigued with the J-200 style guitar. I own an Epi EJ-200CE and it plays just like an electric, but I just don't feel it has all the sound I'm looking for (not a great amount of volume or low end for such a BIG guitar). It is a beautiful appointed guitar. Kind of wanting to move away from the Epi copies to Gibby's with all but my Casino and maybe Texan Epi's. I haven't found much for explanation on a J vs. SJ in these. Is the SJ just an alleged upgraded/blinged version? Would like to hear other opinions on either and what they have found with sound, playability etc. Thanks for reading & responding if your so inclined. Aster
  9. Cruz,

I would presume with the dowrap you are a rider? If so, do you ride an American big twin? Hope to be getting out ASAP here for some R&R.

  10. Hello RasTus,

Have you been on vacation? Haven't seen you around for several days. Be well & safe!!

  11. Thanks for the note!! I was just so blown away with Greg's passing as I got this note from him just about 10 days before he was gone. Do you know what happened to him? Just didn't sound like things were pressing with the cancer for him (yet) from his note.

    Thanks again

  12. Milod,You sound like a wise man in your posts. I get carried away sometimes but over all have a good heart for people in need.

  13. Thanks guys for the input. I may have to order up some of those Jazz Swing 11's Craig. If the Pyramids ever wear out that is. Just an update on the strings. Finally went with Pyramid Flat wound 11's & I love them. Dead as hell without plugging in the guitar, but for me, I bought it to be an electric. I've had some time with it settling in so I'll get after a good "setup" and get the action lowered a bunch. Touch up the neck just a bit and then it should play like a dream. Aster
  14. Do you still have the Gretsch Chet? I'm a Jet Dynasonic lover (caddy green).

  15. Thanks Red & Happy New Year to you. Would the guitar maybe have come w/ L5 Gibson strings from the factory? They took the new strings off and I just found them in the storage cubby in the guitar case. Am I presuming correctly that the factory sting gauge were electric nickel .11's on this J-160E? I'll check on the ceramic bridge from BeatGearCavern. And thanks for the tip to locate. I may have to wear my paint resparator to get some playing time in on this beauty with the fumes (till it airs out a bit). Take care. Aster
  16. Hi and Happy New Year Ya'll, Just received my Christmas present to myself a Gibson 1962 Reissue J-160E yesterday and need some advice (it came in about 7 weeks early yeehaw): Had GHS Brite-Flats 12's installed on it at Fuller's Guitar and it sounds okay but plays really rough (for this weenie's left hand that is). I've read people advise the Pyramid Gold Flat 11's and want any feedback on the easy of playing, bar cording etc. I'm sure these will nail the Beatles sound as I want for now with this new beauty. Here's a dumb guy question: Do GHS or Pyramid Flats have to break in and play/sound better as they go or are they at their best and get worse like round wound strings do? IMHO round wounds sound best after about 2 days of good playing and are good for a couple of weeks then start to go downhill. Is it true the Flats start off bad and then play better & better? Also, can you purchase the ceramic bridge for these as it looks like a man made Corian or something? I'll post a few photo's of the 160 when I can keep the new dog at bay and away from the guitar. He must like the nitrocellulose finish smell. I get kind of goofy (don't take much as I'm a cheap date with booze too) when I play it for more than 20 mins. Really sweet/strong smell coming off the guitar. Just left the Bozeman MT factory to the dealer and I got it a week after that. All my other nitro finish guitars hung on a dealers wall for maybe a month or more 1st. Be safe tonite!!! Aster
  17. Well, I've been trying to run, but I can't seem to hid from it. With all the praise on the "Inspired by 1964 Texan" comments that I had on a post about my EJ-200, I've decided I'd better look into that Texan my dealer has on the floor. Haven't been able to get it out of my head yet. He said he'd make me a great deal on it (has $449 for a sticker price) so I'd presume he may come off that 10% more maybe. My question is about a case. I would presume that Epi makes a good case that will fit the rounded shoulder nice, but I have the hanker'n for a Tweed case for it. Any feedback on the "Musician Gear Tweed", "Gator Tweed case", or even the "Guardian Tweed case and how any would fit the Texan? I'm getting too many "black" cases that look the same and like the look of my Fender Tweed Strat case allot. I just didn't know if one case fits that Texan better than the others or if it even matters on the Rounded Shoulder. Thanks for the input. Just what I need, another guitar. Lordy, I can only play one at a time too. They are just so pretty to look at an hold. About like Harley Davidsons, you just have to own more than one, cuz they are all so different! Aster
