  1. For me, When you walk in the Room & Needles & Pins. Both by the Searchers. Also, Del Shannon stuff like Runaway & Little town Flirt. I'm really heading way back to "happy tunes" these days I guess. Aster
  2. IMHO they both do a good job for what they are for & cost. But that being said, NO COMPARISON in sound to me. I have both EPI Dove & Bird and Gibson Dove & Bird. Like all 4 of them and like said, I grab the Epi Dove to play most of the time. Just for my 2-5 songs before I head to work or after work before the rest of things on the list to do. Also, take the Epi Dove in the RV. But everyone both are previewed for says the same. The Gibson's just blow the Epi away in sound. And they better. I still play the Epi Dove prolly the most, but I long for the Gibson often when I do. Aster
  3. Hi Retired, Happy Birthday a little late to you!!! Did I read somewhere that you live in Iowa too? Maybe I was just dreaming again. Happens a lot these days. Aster
  4. I don't know how that worked out for you Pup. Around here in I-OWE-A there are as many Mexican rest. as convenience stores. Pizzerias & Deli's, not too many anymore. Just Mexican. Aster
  5. Now "THAT'S WHAT I'M TALK'N ABOUT!!!" No coffee for me, but a great Tennessee breakfast from my days in Clarksville. Love it, just can't have REAL biscuits (except for Bisquick Glut. Free) anymore. Short bread (biscuits & Cornbread) was by far my fav. breads hands down. Country ham & Red Eyed gravy (great for gravy boat Mashed Potatoes too) is beyond excellent. Dang it's too close to lunch and now I can't have that today. Aster
  6. Hot yes, but Moose's (Moose) love chocolate I'm just sure of it.
  7. No Celiacs (coeliac) disease but the G.I. Doc. (I have lots of great clients that are Dr's) believes it's Gluten Intolerance and you can react more violently to that with gluten intake that even Celiacs. Celiac disease is potentially life threatening and the Intolerance just makes you really sick & fast too. Like you were all beat up by a gorilla. Seems like I haven't been able to cut back with work. I must not be getting a much done in an hour as I use to so I'm still piling on the work hours in a week. Been blessed with lots of projects & work for the last year. In a year or two we'll be even with what I lost in the glut of 2008-2011. Oh well, it's only $$ (and I guess my retirement too ) What's a mother to do? Aster
  8. With all the food allergies/intolerance I've developed meals are getting very complex and not as much fun. Breakfast this AM: Cream of Rice hot cereal w/ dairy free margarine, honey, raisins, & toasted pecan bits, MSG free pork sausage, & multi-grain gluten free toast with blackberry jam. Sometimes throw in a scramble egg cooked in coconut oil. Finally found a hot cereal that, believe it or not doctored up, really tastes good. Biggest challenge is finding GOOD tasting/texture Gluten free bread. Finally found some but you pay dearly for a loaf. Oh well, one slice in the AM for Bfast isn't going to break me and I gotta eat something. Aster
  9. How long have they had this factory in Indo-China (I mean Indonesia)? I have a couple of Indo. made Epi's I believe from a few years back now. Were they done by someone other than Samick to ya think? Aster
  10. Good night ladies!!! You must have been eating salty potato chips and put it away in a damp basement. Those strings are a dead give away it AIN'T Gibson, or any other manufacturers fault!!! Seriously, do you have a handle on the Humidity levels and have measured them accurately with a Hygrometer? Shouldn't be over 50% for humidity 40-45% is what I shoot for. Cap is sure right on the metal. Gold & chrome both need protection from the acids & moisture too. I've used stuff for my Harley chrome to protect for 10 yrs now and it really does the trick for me. Just be very careful with anything with ANY abrasive in it on the GOLD. It's so thin you can rub thru it just looking at it I think. Aster
  11. All I'm listening to "right now" is my ears ringing and I don't think anyone's talking about me. Got to get off these anti-inflammatory OTC meds. I did listen to some bluegrass & some old Alan Parson Project Eye in the Sky cuts and a cover CCR did of I put a spell on you early this AM. Does that count? Man, I can just see them playing that at Woodstock in my head. Aster
  12. It seems like to me that oils w/o any "cleaners", so to speak, are the best bet esp. with Nitro finishes. Find some Tri-Flow or a great grade of non-gumming light machine oil. Even a sewing machine oil is good for a device like a tuner. Wouldn't use olive oil, no disrespect Themis, as that should get gummy as it ages & breaks down. Some greases will do the same thing and they are a mess to clean out and get working again. Also, just a drop in that "little hole" does it too. Lube them when stringing. Just how I work it anyway. We're always having to keep gears, lens movements, slides etc. moving smooth and w/o any gummy breakdown. Aster
  13. Hi Stein,

Some of us have been concerned about ya bro!! Glad to see you back here. Wasn't anything I said I hope that kept you away.

  14. So does Gibson state that the man made stock saddles are really TUSQ? My Gibson stock ones sure sound different than the Tusq brand replacements I bought (when dropped lightly on a hard counter) & also in the guitar. Went thru that with the Reissue J-160E and the J-45 Custom. I was presuming the stock Gibson ones are really Corian not Tusq Brand products. I really don't remember reading any specs either way so it IS a question I don't know the answer to. Aster
  15. I know a Duo-Jet is Chambered not Semi-Hollow, but I was wanting to know what was being described as Semi-hollow (with a wood brace thru the middle) or like a thin hollow as a Casino maybe. Thanks for clearing up the info as sometimes it gets confusing whether or not F or close F hole electric are semi or hollow.
  16. Semi-hollow like a Gretsch Duo-Jet or like an Epi Casino? I keep all my guitars in 45% humidity whether solid, semi, or Hollow. Electric or Acoustic. Seems like the neck relief does better if nothing else but why chance things I always say.
  17. I see several of them not having any stamped S/N on the headstock and accept this may be the case. Did any of you Sorrento owners make a C/S call to Gibson about where the S/N is on these guitars then? Just curious as I've always had excellent help from C/S when I've called with questions/issues that I needed answered or resolved. Aster
  18. Your right it doesn't have a S/N on that but it also says it's a 2nd I believe. Don't they remove the S/N from factory 2nds with the repairs? At least that's what I thought. Use to stamp a "2nd" or something like that into the wood on the back side of the headstock too. Aster
  19. Has anyone heard from or about Stein? Hope all is well with ya bro!!

  20. Hi Bonzo,

I would recommend a new Harley "Reach Seat" to help your daughters Harley. Unless it is an 883 Low she needs to get some lowered shocks (I recommend "Progressive Suspensions" brand).

The handle bar reach issue will resolve with the seat moving her forward and also down which will help keep from dropping the bike. Not good to hold those 600 lb...

  21. I could see the wheels & trucks on the board helping "grip" you around the waist a bit and would be a natural to keep the guitar from flopping all over the place when you play hard!! Aster
  22. When I got out of college, and rebelled against my years in school, I started a Skateboard/Roller Skate shop in the Midwest. That was in 1976 or 77. It was great fun and the parks were heavy all over the country (huge ones too). A different breed of "skater" exist now bred from the streets. You should see what the "Skate Rats" do to beautiful new Harley's. Makes me want to cry to see them spray can over a beautiful & PERFECT factory baked paint scheme. The board guitars look cool but I wouldn't pay much over $50 for the parts. Bet they don't really sound that good. Would rather have a DOOR guitar or cigar box Bo Diddly style I reckon. Aster
  23. Must have been a cyber fluke. I just refreshed the page & everyone's just listed once. Maybe & was just seeing double?

    Aster

  24. Man 20 Gauge, are you a double barrel cuz all I see are mostly doubles on your "friends" page. Wonder what's up with that.

    Things good in FL?

    Take care

    Aster

  25. Hi Red,

Hope all is well with you! I thought I'd remembered you having a vintage Texan (or reissue) & maybe an IB Texan too. I have the IB version and wanted your suggestion on strings for it. Also, if you have both what do you notice the most in sound between the two versions.

Thanks for your time & input.

    Sincerely,

    Aster
