  1. My 1994 Les Paul Studio Lite with M-III Electronics has 500T & 496R + NSX Middle & I think they have mellowed over the 20+ years but are still hot, the guitar has a 300k volume pot & is factory coil tapped & has 9 sounds & just has some scary tones from in your face Dimarzio Super Distortion tones to smooth single coil sounds & a wha pedal fuzz tone..

I like em in this guitar & they may not be perfect for everybody but they sure work out well in the M-III wiring..

  2. That Schaller bridge is very cool, I've had a few basses with a Schaller with those rollers where I could adjust the string spacing = NICE!!

I HAD an Ace Frehley Epiphone & it was an $800 Turd, The neck was all wishywashy & frets were horrid I ended up returning it & bought a Gibson Les Paul @ a different dealer, Pissed the seller off as they were stuck with the Dried Up Turd that they then just tried to pass off as new to someone else [cursing] there out of business now.. serves em right..

USA Hamers specials are very nice too..

I've always wanted an Archtop Studio since I saw them new as a Kid & I guess that's why I bought this PRS..

The Tremolo on this guitar is so smooth & build quality is amazing..

  3. Epiphone released the Blueshawk Deluxe & I figure that Gibson will do so soon too..

Note: Bound neck & flame top

My Blueshawk is a 2006 & the Nighthawk a 2013 Nancy Wilson "Fanatic"

Blueshawk has gotten a bone nut & locking Grover tuners, The Nighthawk is 100% factory..

  4. I would be interested in your findings if you can find a set of strings .009"-.046" or .010"-.046" that would be calibrated for use on the TT

My son is interested in a Trans Trem & I know where to buy a used ZT3, I am newbie to this style of trem but have setup most every style of guitar ever made.. I remember when the Floyd Rose came out if that tells you anything..

Thinking hard about buying him this guitar but it will be a couple weeks after Christmas before I can afford it..

  5. That's a pretty pimped out Blueshawk you have there..

    Welcome to the Forum!!

These guitars are a jem to play..

I've thought of making a Blueshawk/Nighthawk with three P-90s.. One of these days!!

    My 200th Post Here!!

  6. First I didn't know that Gibson had done that serial # change for 2014, I did know about 1994 as I have one, starts with 94..

I can't believe they rout the pickup cavities like they do, Indexed by the back of the guitar sitting flat instead of by the top..

  7. Well as some of you may know for over 20 years I've had a Blueshawk, went thru three of them buying & selling like I do but always seem to come back.

I had a early Black Blueshawk with the Southern Comfort House of Blues Logo in the face of the guitar that I ended up selling to Guitar Emporium in Louisville, If anyone has this guitar I'd like to buy it back BTW, Then later on we had a Blue one with a black neck, Both of these guitars had the rounded profile like a Nighthawks neck was used, & then the 2006 blue Blueshawk we have currently & the 2013 Nancy Wilson "Fanatic" Nighthawk Standard..

I guess the feel & shape of these guitars really grow on you & my Son has also had one in his hands since he was three & learned to play on the lightweight killer Gibson with a wide array of tones..

Epiphone has just released a Blueshawk with bound fretboard & flamed maple veneer top & would assume that a Gibson Reissue is in the works being they were a good seller & had such great tones with the Blues 90 pickups, 3 way switch, & 6 way rotary varitone plus the dummy coil pickup in the rear which cancels 60 cycle hum when either of the pickups are used alone..

These guitars have a 25 1/2" scale with Rosewood fretboards & have a familiar feel to Les Paul players, Most Blueshawks have a V shaped neck profile like my current one but my other two had the rounded Nighthawk profile, Both of the C shape profile necks were black BTW, I know that doesn't make a difference or maybe it does? Hmmm..

Last year my Son was looking around for a new solid body guitar & was looking at the Les Paul Traditional II @ GC but finally settled on a Gibson Nighthawk as his go to solidbody, We also have a 1997 PRS CE-22 that has filled that role for a while & there isn't a bolt on neck guitar I ever seen that lives up to the feel & sound of this one, Sorry Fender..

I thought I'd share some pictures of the current Lineup of Blueshawk & Nighthawks with the Gibson Forum..

  8. You know I'm liking that Scarlet Lester Silvercrow!!

Taking guitar pics can be frustrating...

I've taken dozens of pictures before to just delete them all from the camera..

Most of the time even outdoors when the flash isn't used they still don't do the guitar justice..

My Les Paul to me looks almost Cranberry up close sometimes but step away it looks red, some pics you can see the wood thru the trans finish other times it looks painted, In the early mid 90s they called it Translucent Red.. Almost Candy Apple Red..

  9. The guy I bought my 94 Studio from in Nashville worked for Gibson during the 90s & He told me that they used Grade B ebony on some studios during his stay at Gibson & Rosewood on others plus grade A as well.. I suppose the Grade has to do with the color or figure to the wood & nothing else as far as it's smoothness or density..

    Rock On My Brotha!!

  10. Looks like Rosewood to me too!!

Hey if it's just the matter of it being Rosewood or Ebony that makes the difference in you Keeping or Selling the guitar & you can't even tell which it is that you have, Might I ask how the guitar plays & sounds?? Not all the Studios have an ebony board, there are some with the rosewood factory JFYI..

BTW my 1994 Gibson Studio Lite M-III has a Rosewood fretboard & that thing plays & sounds like a beast..

You can easily tell that it's rosewood, some folks soak the board with this dyed lemon oil made for scratch hiding on dark furniture to try an make the rosewood darker, Sometimes as stated above ebony will have brown marks in it also, Ebony has a much tighter grain pattern than rosewood & is also a bit slicker feel to it..

All three of my current Gibsons have a rosewood board as did the 59 LP Burst.. they aren't for sell either..

NOTE: in the factory photo of my guitar it shows a Ebony Fretboard & also on the specs sheet but it is for sure Rosewood see 1st pic..

These three fretboards are all three Rosewood 1968 top & middle, 1956 at the bottom, I guess it really matters which tree & if it's from Brazil, Madagascar, East India or?? I also note that #2 #3 have been refreted as the Nibs are gone..

    Gibson Electric Serialization

    Taken from the 11th Edition

    Blue Book of Electric Guitars

Centennial Year/Models: 1994 is the most notable exception, with the first

two numbers representing the year, so all models start with 94 and are followed

by six digits. The Centennial models produced for the 1994 model year have

an inked-on serial number that is six digits long. The serial number appears as

YYYYMM. The first four represent the number produced. They all started on

1894, which represents instrument #1, and 1994 would be instrument #101.

The last two digits indicate the month of the guitar released. A new model was

released each month with a total of fourteen different models that includes two

prototypes. The last two numbers will range from one to fourteen.

This Info is only part true, My serial number is stamped into the headstock like any other Gibson not inked, Unless when it was repainted it was stamped then?

Here's how it looks currently except I've now grain filled the bare mahogany & await sanding it all flush before spraying it with the Transparent Red Finish..

Note: Headstock Break & Repair plus four wooden dowels.. Repair is Super Strong..

  12. Here's my 1994 Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite MIII in Translucent Red

Have the truss rod cover off currently as it's getting New .010" strings, action job, cleanup etc..

I can get just about any sound from this beast that a Strat or Les Paul Classic could make Plus One..

  13. Looks like I need to Join The Blueshawk/Nighthawk Club...

You guys that can't get your Hawks setup right must just not have learned how too yet?

I've got .010"s on the Blueshawk & it's action is very low with zero buzz & the tone is just astounding , I've got very little relief in the necks of either one of these guitars, BTW the Nighthawk has .009"s on it..

Bringing an old thread back from the dead as the Blueshawk will be reissued soon enough.. 25th Year Coming Up!!

  14. Here's a picture of my Nighthawk Standard & Blueshawk which has Blues 90 pickups, Not actual P90s, Also the Blueshawk has a dummy coil pickup in the rear for 60 cycle hum canceling plus a push/pull pot varitone bypass & rotary 6 way Varitone knob = All Kinds of usefull tones, It's stock except for the Grover Tuners & Bone Nut..

The Blueshawk has a V shaped neck that's unlike any other Gibson I've come across..
