  1. Just beautiful, John. You can play and you can sing, sure enough, but your best magic (imo) is how you deliver the essence of the Song.
  2. I love this. I always want to hear another. And another after that.
  3. Nice, Sal! Now how about a/b ing the two for us—put ‘em thru the paces and let us hear what they have. I’m intrigued…
  4. Keith— More, please…. (I wish I could hear All That Glitters again, if you’re taking requests.) 😎
  5. Very nice, Roger. I get quite nostalgic about JD from time to time; his music was big for me in my teens and into my college days. Lotsa clean, clear guitars where the likes of me could play along and learn some things. A couple of years ago, my college roommate and I reunited after 35 years. She sang and I played, back in the day, so when she came for a visit, we went out to my then-regular open mic and whipped out one of our favorites, “Eclipse,” like no time had passed. John’s songs live on…thanks for reviving this one. Well done. Eclipse
  6. When sitting, I found my J-45 to be far less comfortable to play than my J-100, fwiw.
  7. Delightful, Roger—thank you for sharing these.
  8. Nice take, Sal! Let me know when your tour heads this way. 👍🏻
  9. Or, “It’s just too hard to play with the case latched.” 🤦🏻‍♀️
  10. Oh, you are so right. And the intensity made the guitar bloom in your hands. Yessiree...
  11. Here’s a girl folkie having no trouble with hog. I shot this a couple of Januarys ago at the Highway 1A Songwriter’s Festival in FL—it was 33 degrees in the tent at the time. That bird kept us all warm. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3c96x8r91zuniha/Video Jan 12%2C 10 48 09 PM.mov?dl=0
  12. Fantastic, Sal. Way to make ‘er sing! I, too, might want to play around with GarageBand, so if you have tips for simple functionality, I’d be all ears. (MacBook or iPhone—even iPad, maybe.) I used to use Audacity, but even that looks hard now. Really like this!
  13. Nice, Rob! That’s a beautiful ‘bird, too. 👍🏻
  14. Wow...thank you, all. As the earth comes full circle since Mr. Prine last rode along with us, what we lost—and what he gave us all those other years—continue to haunt and amaze. What a world, eh? Lots to ponder, guitars in hand, as we ride this rock together. Grateful to be here, and grateful, too, for those of you who survived some very close calls, health- and otherwise. We’ve all been down this road before...
  15. You still do not suck. And I’m still a big fan. (Never thought we’d see you quite so...animated, though.)
  16. Great demo, Sal, as always. It’s pretty as ‘birds go. I’n curious about YOUR impression so far—does she do it for you?
  17. Not enough time left to me for the practice I’d need. Maybe next pandemic. Good to see you back in these parts, Stu. Hope you are reasonably well and that the music is still with you.
  18. Poignancy and sorrow aside (as if!) for this being the last song John Prine recorded, I think it is quite the gem. I’ve been listening closely over the last day or two, trying to feel out the nuance and simplicity that make it so. And for the first time in more than a year, I was compelled to actually pick up a guitar for more than 5 minutes. (I’ve been well—just very absent from my musical self. Maybe I’m not alone in this?) I’m sharing a take I did just now, not because it’s so special, but as a way of stepping back into our little circle and saying “Hey...” Time has been unforgiving on my old, unpracticed voice, so I have lots of work ahead. Still, it’s about the song. And feeling the fire to get it to sit just right—or as right as I can for now. This is the part I’ve missed over this last year, and I’m relieved to see a return. Also, this is the first sound I’ve shared from the 2015 30’s style L-00 I bought last fall. (I think it sounds a little sleepy here, but I just sprung it from its humidified case where it’s been for the winter. We both need to wake up some.) If you’re interested... https://song.space/2pt68e Recorded w/iPhone, not one shred of added anything. (Except the timely roll of thunder—if I had planned to add that effect, I woulda put it right there.)
  19. Most definitely NOT a jazz thing, I would say! 😅
  20. At a guitar show a number of years ago, I played a late 50s J-50 with a rattle in it that modoc and John had for sale. Never heard of it before, and some explained it was probably either 1) a superstition or 2) a way for a rhythm player to add some sneaky percussion to the live mix. I could live with either “explanation.” I remember deciding that, had the stars aligned for a purchase, I most definitely would have kept it in. I think...
  21. I encountered this with my J-100 several years ago. After some head-scratching, we decided to notch that brace and make the Anthem fit. I can see that would be Anathema! for some, but a) I couldn’t see a downside as far as structural soundness or sound soundness, b) it’s not a guitar I’ll ever get rid of (so not worried about downstream value, etc.), and c) I was in the middle of a recording project and using the Anthem in my J-45, so I was/am completely sold on that system, for recording and for live performances. No regrets, but to each her own.
  22. I scored this model a couple of months ago, after searching for a long while. It’s a 5-star dealer limited edition—just 65 were made. I am not disappointed. (The neck, btw, is no kind of V-shape—just your basic comfortable C, I’d say.) It’s light, responsive and balanced and just what I was after. I have not been playing much, else I’d’ve recorded something to share by now. That said, I’m glad I done it!
