  1. I often have an issue when playing out in the evening...travelling and setting up at the time I would be having supper at home

So a missed meal, not minded to snack at the venue

Today bran flakes with soya milk for breakfast

Spicey veg stew with pasta twists/pesto/parmesan + egg noodles for lunch... [thumbup]

Cheddar cheese slices, wholemeal bread and sauerkraut or pickled onion for tea/supper

Doesn't get much better than this... [biggrin]

  2. Breakfast...

    Tangerine Orange...

Scrambled Egg Omelette with fried onion...served on Olive Oil fried bread...topped off with baked beans... accompanied by coffee...

At about 12 noon Mrs V almost imperceptibly raised an eyebrow prior to pulling the ring on each of two cans of Guinness Original XX porter/stout...a recipe from 1821...

    A righteous precursor to

    Lunch...

Chilli/Curry pulse soup/stew with pre-fried boiled long grain rice...

    In anticipation of Supper...

Cheese and Onion flavour potato crisps(Morrisons supermarket own brand)...preparing the palate for Cheese Salad Sandwich...

    Interspersed with the aural complement...

    Stevie Wonder....Hotter than July

    Beach Boys....Ten Years of Harmony(compilation)....

    Have a nice Day.... [thumbup]

  3. On a health kick for the next month or so....

Breakfast today Bran Flakes with Soya Milk

Lunch will be chili/curry flavoured pulse soup/stew with wholemeal bread

Supper...Vegemite spread wholemeal bread with sauerkraut, lettuce...

Interspersed with oat flapjack, nectarines, banana, plums...maybe a Royal Gala apple

Also trying out some weirdo milks....Hemp, Oat, Rice

It's a sort-of semi Vegan thing I'm following to see if it has any feelgood benefits...

  4. Mrs V and I run a semi permanent soup/stew pot which is replenished with whatever veg and meat come our way... [thumbup]

The pot veers between beef/chicken/pork and vegetarian pulses of any kind

Lots of onions and garlic....and always chilli and curry flavouring

    We abhor waste

A sort of benign Sweeney Todd philosophy, if you will... [unsure]

    Have a Nice Day..... [biggrin]

  5. Many aspects to the issue of action adjustment on an acoustic....

From personal experience can be frustrating and dependent on a number of factors

Stability of temp/humidity plays a part

An experienced guitar tech will have met many of the situations... [thumbup]

Take care with truss rod adjustment...not as 'straight'-forward as might be assumed

All guitars age and wood moves in a unique way per instrument

In the last 12 months I have had 2 necks re-set to address issues of overly high action

String gauge is another fairly obvious factor

Playing style can influence preferred settings...a hard plectrum style will necessitate a higher buzz free action than delicate finger style

On a personal note...I don't bother with any 'recommended' settings any more

A couple of my acoustics look very high in this aspect...yet play well and intonate correctly high up the neck.... [thumbup]

  6. I probably missed the answer to this question....

Do we even know the song being referred to?

Angie is a well known Stones song with a wistful minor feel

Anji is an iconic instrumental by Davy Graham....a blues in A minor... [unsure]

    So there you go.... [biggrin]

    V

PS....Often, but not always, the dominant chord will indicate whether the key is major or minor...

So if there are G or G7's the key is C major

If there are E or E7's the key is A minor

Also...many great songs move through more than one key.... [thumbup]

  7. Epi and Gibson Nighthawks here.... [thumbup]

The Epi is incredible VFM with superb build quality(Indonesia)....

The Gibson is a tone machine with two of my favourite sounds...Strat and Firebird... [thumbup]

And the light/easy handling is IMO unsurpassed....

  8. Love the L6-S..... [thumbup]

    Got my silver-burst last year

It makes a welcome change from all those pesky Les Pauls everybody eulogises over...

For moi, the Santana cache probably swings it

I shall look at some YouTube clips of other big name players for affirmation... [thumbup]

  9. All valid points... [thumbup]

    IMO though...rightly or wrongly...

There is an ongoing drive to minimise production costs to permit 'static' or even reducing sale prices for mass produced guitars (and other instruments)...

Therefore the 'chase me charlie' game is played searching for lower and lower labour costs whilst hopefully maintaining acceptable quality... <_<

The appetite for attractive shiny guitars with big name cachet at bargain prices is voracious...

  10. Welcome aboard Mr D... [thumbup]

Personally I don't play Gibson acoustics (I just want you to know that)... [thumbup]

Too expensive and mostly too big too... [biggrin]

Preferring the dulcet tones of Ovation, Taylor, Takamine etc

Gibson electrics are well cool though, so it's not all bad news...

    Have a nice day...

  11. A lot depends on location and relative ambient humidity...

Temperature also plays a part in the equation

Personally I would be unhappy putting wet rags inside a guitar case...some people do...

    Being mindful of electrics/corrosion etc...

Some arid regions require special precautions

Talking to local musicians with experience can be worthwhile...

  12. I am a long time LP Junior aficionado...and they are a completely different guitar to a typical LP...

Originally a lower cost entry level guitar...they caught on and became sought after...

Mainly...IMX...for their huge fun factor, punkability, ease of use, lighter handling, great accessible sounds... [thumbup]

And, as implied, they are a lot lighter weight...

Choices of P90 and H/B(often coil-tapped)...popular with single bridge P/U...

And usually much cheaper to buy than a LP...

    V

    :-({|=

PS I just checked the spec...and it is more LP than LP Junior...in fact not sure if it is 'Junior' much at all...

But I enjoyed saying a few words about the Junior anyway... [thumbup]

I'm off to work now and hope y'all have a nice day...

    Taxi !!

  13. Had the session last night [thumbup]

Mr L5 was otherwise engaged, so ended up between two Strats...both well fx'd

Straight into a clean ss amp with a whiff of chorus

Sounded great...much admiration from fellow guitar aficionados...(for the guitar rather than the playing [crying])

Ended up giving a discourse on 60's music...the Casino connection etc

    Great fun [biggrin]
