  1. The Gator Deluxe Brown might be a little bit deeper also. My bass is a little thinner than a LP with a maple top but I ended up adding a 3/4 styrofoam spacer under the guitar body. The case is easy to modify……..
  2. The Gator LP cases also fit the Gibson LP Tribute Jr DC Bass. They are longer than most other brands in the neck area……
  3. Congrats!! I retired over five years ago, highly recommended!!
  4. The guitar made in Memphis would likely have MHS Pickups, that could be one difference.
  5. In 1987, Ned designed the 20/20 bass for Gibson. They didn’t go over well. Very few were made & sold. They are quite comfortable to play.
  6. Hi & welcome! Your guitar looks to me to be an ES-330T. One of my books shows it was only made from 1959 to 1962. I think they only made the two pickup version after that. You have a beautiful guitar there!!
  7. There are only a handful of Professionals & for that matter Personals made in 1969. Most were made in 1970.
  8. I came close to buying a 1955 reissue a few years back. For some reason that must be an unpopular year for reissues. I do have a couple Les Pauls from the OP’s birthday year……. The Les Paul Deluxe I’ve had since I was 18, almost fifty years.
  9. That is one of the last of the Decal labeled Gibsons. I had a 1975 with a maple neck, but i think it had a volute also. Maybe the neck is maple & they decided it didn’t need a volute……..?
  10. I have a similar crack on a 2014 Les Paul I bought recently. I didn’t let it bother me…….
  11. Years ago I bought a NOS case for a great price at a small music store. Ended up being a Ripper/Grabber case. Nothing I had fit in it, including a Les Paul Signature Bass. I ended up giving it away. A Ripper would likely fit in a Jack Casady case, but it might flop around. A Gibson 335 Bass (EB-2) would be the same size. Might have good luck with an aftermarket rectangular case.
  12. It’s likely that the capacitor(s) needs replacing. The dielectric fluid in the bigger caps goes bad if it hasn’t been used in a long time. Many of these larger caps were two or three capacitors in one & need to be replaced with individual caps of the proper value. Here are a few pics of old & new caps on a GA-5T.....
  13. Here is a pic of a 1973 Les Paul Recording & a 2013 Les Paul Recording II Reissue…….
  14. This 1967 Gibson Factory tour film was just discovered recently. Towards the end, it shows the production line that the GSS amps were made. It shows both the larger speakers and the more common type. It also shows final inspection testing out an EB-2 Bass with what looks like a GA-5 Skylark amp.
  15. Beautiful Guitar!! Is there a back plate covering the Moog circuitry on the back?
  16. I drill the rivets out of both the old handle & a similar new handle & bolt it on with a couple small thread screws, nuts & acorn nuts…..

    Gibson Cases

I ended up buying two Gator cases (made in China) for my Les Paul Jr DC basses. They were the only cases that were long enough to accommodate a short scale bass. I’ve been happy with them & have bought several other Gator Frameworks products. Their customer service has been the best I have experienced in years.
  18. If you search for “The Les Paul Forum”, there is a thread in the “Other Gibsons” section called “Where are they now…”. Strings Jr aka Randy was a former Gibson Nashville employee. He has answered many similar questions such as yours, he knows many of the employees who put their initials in pickup cavities, etc… after completing certain operations……..
  19. The original handle broke off. They were plastic & prone to breaking. I’ve had to fix quite a few through the years. This is how I fix mine with a similar handle to the original. Newer cases have handles that are much thicker where they use to break.
  20. My ‘85 Gibson Futura has them. I believe they were made by Gotoh for Gibson.
  21. The 2022 Vintage Guitar Price Guide lists it as $4,800 for “High” value. Yours looks about as mint as you will find. Should go higher yet…….
  22. See if you can read one of the pot codes. Example- 1376948 137=Manufacturer CTS, 69=year pot was made & 48=week of year produced. This helps narrow it down a bit more even thought it dates the pot, not the guitar.
  23. Welcome! I am more of a Vintage Gibson Bass guy, but after Gibson bought Steinberger, Ned designed this for Gibson…… Gibson 20/20. It wasn’t popular but I found them unique. The first one in years has popped up on eBay recently.
  24. The pickups are likely TB+ pickups. Gibson used them in most of their basses. My Les Paul Standard Oversized Bass had standard size humbuckers & they were TB+. They also used TB+’s in the SG Bass even though they were mudbucker & mini humbuckers sized. When the ES Les Paul Bass was produced in Memphis, special MHS Humbuckers were made for this short scale base. These could have been used in the 335 bass but i think TB+ is more likely.
  25. My 2015 Studio Deluxe from Musicians Friend came with 57 & 57+ Humbuckers. It might be a Guitar Center & MF special run……..
