  1. I’ll have to ask. My Mom called me the former. Dad the latter.
  2. Schmendrick Michel Pichel
  3. According to this: https://loviesguitars.com/gibson-serial-number-identification-dating/ your first one is a 1968
  4. If you can see one of the pot codes, that will help narrow it down. 1376942 (example), 137=CTS, 69=year pot manufactured & 42=week of year manufactured.
  5. No, but this is interesting: https://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/1969gibsonEB0.php My simple home setup that may be of help if you can't find intended factory specs. Do in this order: 1. Rough set intonation by measuring from inside of nut (inside edge that faces fingerboard) to center of 12th fret wire. Multiply this by 2. That is the scale length. Next, measure from inside of nut to g string bridge and set the bridge where the string will contact it at that scale length distance. Set the other bridges the same for the rough setup (they will be moved later for final intonation setup). 2. Straighten the neck by putting capo on 1st fret while depressing low E string at last fret and then sticking a business card between low e string and 9th fret. Should graze the string as it slides in. If not, undo string tension, then adjust truss rod so it does, only doing 1/4 turn at most then check results. Let it sit for a day under string tension so the neck can have a day to realize the adjustment you just made. Once you get it dialed in then the neck will be nice and "flat". Any resistance to turning the truss rod - take it to a trusted luthier. 3. Then take off capo and set action at 6/64 each string at 17th fret as measured from bottom of string to top of fret wire. This is a good starting point. 4. Fine tune intonation but adjusting saddle distances on the bridge. Play the harmonic at the 12th fret then compare to fretted note sound at 12th fret. If the fretted note is sharp, move the saddle back (away from pickup). If flat, move it towards pickup. 5. Adjust pickup height to taste.
  6. Paint job thick...no holly/crown....paint thick...hmmmm...neck break repair?
  7. Last, you could call Gibson and ask.
  8. Gibson site says: "Custom Shop regular production modelsCSYRRRRCS stands for "Custom Shop"Y indicates the production yearRRRR indicates the guitar's place in the sequence of production Example: CS10845 is the 845th reg. production CS model produced in 2001.". Looks like a real number but no way to nkow if the guitar is fake or real. Look at the pots and see if there are Gibson pots inside maybe?
  9. Chuck Levin's in Wheaton, MD. Ask for "Carlos" in guitars. Usually sells 200$ cheaper than anyone else.
  10. Will You Be Staying After Sunday-Peppermint Rainbow..,
  11. I’d like to own Jack Casady’s ‘67 Starfire Sunburst bass (not the alembicized one) but have neither the ducats nor contacts to acquire it.
  12. I take off all me covers and leave them off all my basses here in 4 seasons Maryland where I must tweak necks once a season.
  13. I have a Blue Flower Pbass and Blue Flower Strat. I think they are 2004 reissues.
  14. Sandpaper or acetone would be next..,
  15. PS- I once had an SG board that my tech darkened with stain. Ask your tech.
  16. I oil whenever board starts to look dry or color starts getting lighter. Heavy dose. Maybe 3 times per year tops. I think one could do once a season if one wanted. I drizzle it on the board and spread it around with my finger. Let sit for 15 min or so and wipe off excess. This of course is for Guild Starfire bass, Fender bass, and Gibson bass. Don;t know how LP with big inlays would fare with this heavy treatment.
  17. The Gator GC-ELEC-XL Deluxe ABS Molded Case for Extra Long Baritone Guitar works, too. I had to compress the styrofoam on the inside of the lid in the area over the face of the bass a little (using my heel) so it would not be such a tight fit but the mod worked and case fits like a glove now. Lid shuts all the way with ease now. It shut fine before but was a little bug for my taste so I compressed the styrofoam with my heel about 1/2cm. Length of interior is perfect even with my extra long Dunlop locking strap button. There is about 1" from intierior to edge of headstock. Bass doesn't;t slide around inside and the neck channel fits perfect. Has lotsa storage room and very light even with the bass inside. Balkances well while carrying.
  18. Why is this so expensive? What is "Korina"? I didn't;t think Explorers were so special. Never knew much about them though. https://www.elderly.com/collections/all/products/gibson-explorer-1963
