changing tuners out on a 10 yr old Hummingbird standard.............
Lars68 replied to 4beagles's topic in Gibson Acoustic
I changed to vintage style tuners on my 2016 Standard. No problems, but needed to drill new holes for the second screw. The rotos only had one screw each. Easy fix. No change apart from the look. Lars -
Great news for all Gibson lovers! I hope they do it right, without cutting corners. Lars

What would you like to see Gibson build in 2023?

A J-45 Standard with narrow bridge and vintage style tuners. Lars -
Here are a couple of great performances, all with one Gibson and one Martin. Both guitars sound super in the hands of these pros. Lars

Great job! I love both Dylan's and The Byrds' versions of this. I actually got a Rick 360-12 recently and will have to learn this song. I can't think of a more classic 12-string song, and you do it very well. Looking forward to the next seven songs 😀 Lars -
Absolutely awesome!!! Somehow missed this thread until now. I won't miss the next song you post! Lars

Awesome! Lars -
My D-28 had scalloped bracing the last time I checked 😀 The current Modern Deluxe series, the current Authentic Series, as well as the recently discontinued Vintage Series and the Marquis/Golden Era Series all have scalloped bracing. And lets not forget all vintage D-28 before the mid 1940’s. There have been many examples of scalloped D-28 in recent years, that are not of the super expensive or rare kind, like the HD-28 and HD-28V. https://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/modern-deluxe-series/D-28-Modern-Deluxe.html?cgid=md-series-guitars Lars

I have played modern versions of both AJ and J-45 and the best way I can describe the tonal differences would be this. Put a scalloped Martin D-28 on one end of a tonal spectrum, then put the J-45 at the other end. The AJ to my ears falls somewhere in between, with the biggest source of variance between the two being rosewood vs mahogany and long scale vs short scale. Lars

Very well done! I have done military service, which was mandatory in Sweden back in the eighties, but I can't imagine the horrors of serving in a war zone… Lars

Best sounding new Gibson I've heard on the tubes of you...
Lars68 replied to egoidealmusic's topic in Gibson Acoustic
I agree that it is hard to boil down the Banner specs into one reissue guitar. However, my point was that the guitar in the intro pic for the video appears to have consistent specs with the 1942 Banner historic collection J-45, from the current Gibson page. See below. The guitar they show in the video is something else. Lars https://www.gibson.com/en-US/Acoustic-Guitar/ACCFN1635/Vintage-Sunburst -

The J-45 Banner 1942 reissue should NOT have a belly-up bridge. Also, there is no pickguard. There is no way the guitar in the video is what they say it is. Someone made a mistake somewhere. Still a great guitar though, but I have never seen a real Banner with a belly-up bridge… Lars -
Ah Murph, that was great! I loved all aspects of it, performance, guitar groove, lyrics etc. Very cool! Lars

👍👍👍 for this song and ”Freebird” too, plus an extra 👍 for the hats! Lars -
MP, thanks for the kind words. You are more than welcome to steal or borrow whatever you like😊 At first I thought the song needed more details, but after I found that line, I realized what is not told can be just as interesting as what is spelled out. I’m glad you heard it as I hoped for. Lars

Thanks for listening, friends! Lars

Murph and JT, thanks for listening and the encouraging words. It means a lot, knowing you heard my songs and performances when I first started writing a few years back. Lars

Thank you! 🎸 Lars

Appreciate that! I’m not sure there is much merit to my writing, but what I do write at least has a tendency to come fast. In relative terms, performing the songs is what I find most challenging. I wish I had your ability to play and sing in front of a mic. Lars

Here is a new song I just finished recording. It's got quite a bit of instrumentation for a song of mine. Besides the acoustic, there are two organs, an e-bow, some percussions, and even an electric 12-string. It's a mellow song, so I tried to keep the instruments in the background. I hope it works. Lyrically, it's about looking back at times past, in sort of a nostalgic fog (as tends to happen when we get older…), thinking how things could have unfolded differently. A lot of what happens to us is just a matter of chance, and not necessarily planned decisions. It's not an autobiographical song, but it could easily have been. I tried not to spell everything out, and instead leave much inbetween the lines. In case someone might wonder why it uses geography from Georgia, when I'm Swedish, there are a couple of reasons. Georgia is a place I have visted and liked a lot, and R.E.M., who lends a song title to the lyrics and is one of my favorite bands, happen to be from there. Also, using Swedish geography in a song in English just doesn't make good sense… 😁 Lars AS THE BAND PLAYED… East on the I-16 across the Oconee with her by my side softly singing I first saw her standing in the crowd as the band played “Night Swimming” Soon the billboards showed pictures of the sea Walking by the waters edge I dreamt of all that we could be Now sometimes the radio plays the song the years fall from me and I still see her Some memories are stones in our shoes with each new step the cut goes deeper Outside my Northern home the snow falls to the ground while I'm alone inside with the words I never found

Looking forward to a verdict and a song. Lars

I relly like that percussive style on the guitar. Great lyrics too! Lars
