Well, that's good! Sometimes the strings don't make much sound, at all, but still "click" or tug, at the nut. You can actually feel it, even if you can't hear it. If it's not doing any of that, then perhaps it only needs a good setup? The roller bridge will certainly not hurt, the situation. Might have them check the truss rod, to be sure it's tight, as well. Just some (more) thoughts. CB

Check the Nut! Most "tuning" issues originate there. If it "pings" when tuning, the string are catching in the slots. If you're not comfortable widening the slots, a little, then have a proper "set up" done, including the nut slots. IF you use a variety of string gauges, have the slots cut for the largest (obviously). And "Nut Sauce" or just powdered graphite in the nut slots, after proper cutting (if needed), works wonders as well. Good Luck! CB

Just PLAY it!! CB

Why not just play the 'ell out of it, and give it it's own mojo/relic's, by doing so? It won't be a '59, even if you do the conversion. They're all gone, collected, lost, stolen, whatever. Just play it! CB

Gibson ES 347 - The Red-Headed Stepchild of the Gibson Line?
charlie brown replied to Hoya's topic in Gibson ES
Thanks, Cap...I don't (very often) FEEL 66! More like 26, trapped in a 66 year old body! LOL! But, it's all good! Things could be a LOT worse, that's for sure! Cheers, CB -

Ahhh, you're still a "kid!" I turned 66, yesterday (November 3)! "Time Flies!" Especially, these days! It's the old "toilet paper roll syndrome"...the closer to the end, you get, the faster it goes!" CB -
Gibson ES 347 - The Red-Headed Stepchild of the Gibson Line?
charlie brown replied to Hoya's topic in Gibson ES
Back, when I got my Gibson "Lucille" they weren't offering a regular ES-345 or 355, at all! AND, "Lucille" was 400 bucks LESS, than a ES-335, as well! I asked my dealer about that "weird" price difference, and he said (pretty much) the same thing, about 335's being a LOT more popular, and selling 10-1 over "Lucille" at that time. Probably not a lot different, now...except Gibson "wised up," on "Lucille's" price point! Sure glad I got mine, when I did! Paid right at $1,600 (new) including tax, and case, of course. 335's were going for right at $2,000 including tax, at that time. At least, at my dealer's. CB -

Mine too! Though, I certainly wouldn't turn down a good ES-335, either! CB -
"I tried MANY cases including two different Gator cases made for SG's (including the one you're considering buying) and none of them fit my SG's properly without slippage and slop inside." Interesting! All my 2013 SG's came with cases, and they ALL fit, snugly, inside! No movement, whatsoever. So, I wonder what "Gibson" or their case makers did, or are doing, differently? And, Why??? You say you just noticed it...have you had the guitar since 2012? Have you ever oiled or conditioned the fret board? There's a chance, that the area you talk about, is "dry," and has receded slightly. You may just need to use lemon oil, or a fret board conditioner. It's hard (for us) to tell you, since we can't see it/feel it. IF it's always been that way, then yeah...you need to have an authorized Gibson repair service/Luthier, fix it, as a "warranty claim!" There have been some good suggestions, here...BUT, If you're not familiar, or comfortable, doing it yourself, and/or don't have the proper tools, I'd recommend you let a Pro do it, just to be safe! Good Luck! CB

While not "Rock," or even guitar related...a friend of mine just forwarded this clip, to me. IF you haven't already seen it, I think you'll be astounded, at this 9 year old girl's voice, poise, and performance, in front of thousands of people. CB -
Broken Togpot on Kirk Douglas SG
charlie brown replied to Maddie Kinabox's topic in Gibson Repair and Restoration
You should be able to get a replacement Togpot, from Gibson, through your authorized Gibson dealer. If your dealer doesn't stock that particular part, they should be able to get one, from Gibson. That part is used on several Gibson 3-pickup SG's. Gibson often doesn't supply those kinds of parts, to individuals. But, they will, through their dealer network. Good Luck! CB -
