sweeeeeet man uber good pics man' date=' looks fun but i still need to wait for my local store to get em in so i can do a shoot out between it and the black heart......I wounder when Fender is gonna hop on the bandwagon[/quote']
maybe after peavy... there's already a crate, marshall, vox, epiphone, orange, krank, egnater....
-
Thanks M - I'm still not sure if it was worth the wait or all the hype' date=' but for now I'm keeping it. It's a far more flexible head than the VJr, seems to have more substantial iron, and I expect will be a great platform for mods. Please feel free to link these posts over at Sewatt, I'm anxious to see what kinds of improvements the board-level guys come up with. If Epi had come out with this last year as planned, there would probably already be several BillM-type web sites all over this thing.
BTW, the stock tank is the short-spring Ruby Tubes EB2C1B. The long-spring version sounds much better, but it's standard Fender dimensions (17") and won't fit.

Cheers, Brian
In case you didn't get that pm i sent you, i'd suggest replacing that ruby tank (looks like a cheapened version of the accutronics type 1) with an accutronics type 8 reverb tank. The type 8 has a 3rd spring, and sounds closer to the 17" two spring "type 4" reverb tanks (the "fender" one that you've got. I have one just like it in my hammond organ- hammond was the first to use spring reverb, and they owned accutronics... accutronics still exists today, and sells reverb units on ebay.)
type 4: http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/Type4.htm
type 8: http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/Type8.htm
edit: screw ebay, you can order on their website instead: http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/ordering.htm

Those are some very useful amp demonstrations' date=' thanks for posting them!
I find it especially helpful that you play the same song with the various settings:
That makes it much easier for me to hear and compare the range of attainable sounds.

Yeah, what tim the pyromancer said.

It's really only because I'm sitting too close to the amp. It's fine when standing 15 feet away...
but i practice close to my amp... not 15 feet away... ah well, i guess i'll just have to mess more with the controls on the guitar and less with the amp...
-
pricey... and replacing the tubes wouldn't just put a hole in your wallet, it'd eat your wallet whole...
(hole-whole... get it?)
that and i don't care for mixing 6v6 tone with el84's... i'd rather just use 6v6's, thanks.
if you want it, suit yourself. I'd like the wattage controls on each channel though... it'd be nice to have a 2 channel amp that can go from clean to power tube distortion without a major jump in volume...

Yes...thanks for the videos! Can't wait to get mine. Thinking I won't be "maxing" the gain while using anything with P90's.
Rob
didn't realize they did that... I guess i might have to wait to get an agile Harm 1 until i can afford a pickup swap... Well, there won't be p90-sized q tuners any time soon anyway... and i can't stand 60 cycle hum without raging feedback...
does agile wax pot their pickups?

I liked #2 so much i posted it on facebook to rub the "need for tweed" setting in the face of a friend that has a marshall mg 100w 4x12 halfstack...
-
oh man i want one... that "need for tweed" setting with the riviera.... awesome...
oh, and the "fender" reverb was actually produced by a company called accutronics... they originally used them for hammond organs, but fender used them in guitar amps, and we all know what happened then... but anyway, if you want a brand new reverb unit, you can get one directly from accutronics... they have an ebay store, and you can find out what kind of reverb unit you already have on their website (if it's not listed, send 'em an email, they will be able to tell you)
That way you don't need to have an old fender reverb for your new epiphone amp...

I`m thinking it will probably be more of a hassle than it`s worth. Any suggestions a for a killer 8" speaker that does hard rock well. I`m not taking about a band situation ' date=' just jamming in the garage when the wife and kid go to sleep.[/quote'] there's a speaker shootout thing at sewatt... 8 10 and 12 inch...

metal and "modern rock" (it isn't really rock in any sense... it's just a new name for un-shredded metal i guess...)Definitly do the cap cut mod .It's amazing how much better it sounds .I got the idea after seeing and hearing it done to a Valve jr .I don't know why they make amps so bright these daysplease excuse my language, but damn the 80's. i mean, there was some good music then, but shred and rap completely ruined modern music for me... and synthesizers...

I once bought a 2000 (MIK) epiphone les paul custom off ebay that weighed 6.5 pounds.... I opened up the back control cavity panel and looked inside... I even sanded down a small section to get the true wood color.... The wood was a blonde/pale yellow color... I also saw the same color in the wire tunnel that goes between the pots and pickups...
I could only guess that we had a solid alder les paul... Boy' date=' was I pissed off... Anyway, I flipped that guitar and now I am planning on buying a 2007 Epi les paul custom ....
I have heard from guitar shops and Gibson themselves that all 2007 Epi les paul customs have a mahogany body... NO ALDER... But I have read from time to time that epiphone does what they damn well please concerning the les paul woods.... and that your les paul will be like a box of chocolates... What do you all think ? Can I trust Gibson that the les paul will be nice and heavy and have a mahogany body ??
Another thing of interest... I once owned a 1999 Epi dot that had outstanding tone... When I changed out the pickups I noticed the center block was made of a splintery reddish brown wood that looked to me like mahogany... According to Gibson, they always used maple for the center blocks... But with what I saw and the fact that dot was pretty darn heavy, I concluded that they had used mahogany for the center block...
Go figure...[/quote']you sure you weren't buying knockoffs from red china?
