  1. I own a 2016 standard Hbird and this is not it . Yours is obviously the Hummingbird Vintage model . The Vintage model is more a throwback to the 1960’s with the darker cherried mahogany back , the darker sunburst on the front .Tulip Tuners while the Standard is more for a modern approach with Grover Tuners , Electronics and Heritage Cherry Sunburst Congrats ! JC
  2. Alternatively if your L 00 does not have electronics (or it has them but you do not use them) you can cut a thin strip off a business card , and that will give you enough height . Gibson even talks about that method in a video ,around the 7 minutes and 50 seconds mark : I use this method with a few of my Gibsons and have great success with it . JC
  3. I use Ernie Ball 11’s on mine . I know most people play blues or finger style on their L 00’s , I do a little bit of that but I also love to strum it very softly . JC
  4. It was wonderful to hang with a like minded and passionate spirit . It’s fantastic when life provides the opportunity to spend time with someone as nice as gumbino who is indeed worthy of the prefix “ the great” in his name. He went home with an Epiphone Inspired by Hummingbird in Natural which conjured up images of The Stones at Nellcote back in the 70s. I was in to get some accessories. JC
  5. He can believe what he wants about his own guitar . He payed for it and not you . show some f’g respect for people’s opinions … JC
  6. You can’t get any faker than that . JC
  7. The world is made up of those who can afford a Gibson and those who can’t, if you can’t afford one … you go on YouTube or other platforms and cry about it . Gibson just made the Bozeman plant larger … so I don’t think they have a demand problem .Last I heard they were heavily back ordered Not all content on YouTube is good content . JC
  8. That’s because Gibson is no longer attending the NAMM show , and is no longer following the typical January announcing of a new line/expantion. JC
  9. I purchased a left handed G writer not too long ago ,It’s fantastic , feels like a million dollars even with the satin finish . Glad to see other people enjoying the G series . JC
  10. I used that guitar because it exemplifies that original headstock question . And originality has nothing to do with orientation. both of these still use the same orientation that Gibson would have used and that’s the point … JC
  11. Is the “belly” on your guitar’s bridge facing up towards the headstock or down towards the end pin ? i believe Gibson flipped the orientation of belly of the bridge at some point in 1968 , so if your belly is still a belly down like the one in the link I posted , it’s probably earlier than the 1968 moment of transition . if it has the belly pointing up then it could be a very late 68/early 69 as they were transitioning to the Square shoulder J 45 body . here’s an example of a belly up bridge model : https://www.musicgoround.com/product/41121-S000039692/vintage-1969-gibson-j-50adj-acoustic-guitar-w-ohsc JC
  12. You mean like this headstock : https://guitarpoint.de/product/1966-gibson-j-45-cherry-sunburst/ ?? JC
  13. Maybe email Gibson with these photos attached and see what they have to say about it . Gibson may have thought of 1,000 ways to test that finish … but users in the real world encounter scenarios that Gibson may not have thought about . I once had Gibson finish one of my guitars in a completely different color than what I ordered, They took it back and refinished it in the correct color . JC
  14. The 1942 Southern Jumbo with Rosewood they have in stock sounds like a million $$$.And that’s coming from someone who hates Rosewood . I hope you get it . JC
  15. It was a clothing/accessory capsule Gibson and Billy put out some time ago . All the pieces were based around the Hummingbird artwork. JC
  16. Maple and Mahogany for me . i have some guitars in storage but at home I currently have : Maples : SJ 200 TV J 200 Mini 75th Anniversary. L 200 Emmylou Harris Elvis Costello Century of Progress Epiphone Century Archtop Zenith Mahogany : Hummingbird TV Hummingbird Standard L 00 VOS Epiphone Paul McCartney USA Texan Bonus : Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat ( all mahogany body with a maple neck) the maples for the most part I enjoy the quick almost ghostly decay of the notes . the mahogany models I enjoy for their woody/fundamental tone. I stay away from Rosewood for the most part … especially Martins . They never sound clean in my hands … it’s always a mud fest . I did find 1 Rosewood Martin that I enjoyed it was an OM 28 Standard and I was thinking of putting some money down on it , but someone else eventually purchased it before I made my mind up. I did recently play a 42 Banner Reissue Sourthern Jumbo (upside down since I’m a lefty) in Rosewood that sounded like a million dollars . so let’s say 98 percent of the Rosewood guitars I have been able to get my hands on have sounded like junk (to me at least ) JC
  17. You didn’t find anything because the original name for the series was the Custom Line . The Gibson Custom Line (CL) Series was an acoustic guitar range introduced in the 1990s and made in Bozeman, Montana. The CLs had a longer scale length than the typical Gibson acoustic guitar and were designed by Ren Ferguson to compete with Martin D28 style acoustics which were hugely popular with guitarists. There were 5 tiers of CL guitars ranging from the CL-10 to CL-50. All had abalone rosettes (not really used by Gibson before on a production model), custom pickguard shapes and the more expensive models had mother of pearl snowflake or special leaf fingerboard inlays. A special moment in music history involving this body style was when Aaron Lewis played the song Outside acoustically with a CL model : JC
  18. A video featuring Molly Tuttle has been added : JC
  19. They took the wrong blurb , Gibson says : “The L-00 is one of Gibson’s most iconic models. Developed in the early 30s, the L-00 was an industry standard for many years and is still popular with guitarists today. Delivering unparalleled projection not found in comparable small-bodied guitars and a tonality that is best described in Gibson’s 1934 catalog as a sound of “perfect balance,” The 1933 L-00 achieves all the advantages of an acoustic that is comfortable to play in your home while still producing Gibson’s characteristic rich, full sound. The 1933 L-00 features Light Aging by the skilled artisans of the Murphy Lab. The Murphy Lab Light Aged finish treatment, paired with lightly aged hardware, simulates decades of light play wear, giving it the unique character, vibe, and feel of an original example from the Gibson Golden Era” JC
  20. It’s not a 1.72 nut , It’s 1.77 . Being the owner of a Costello century with 1.77 , I guarantee that’s a huge V neck with plenty of space .My Costello has the most room of all the Gibsons I own . It’s one of my favorite necks I’ve ever played . JC
  21. Folks, While I am seldom here on the group at this point , here’s the Murphy lab aged acoustic collection : https://www.gibson.com/en-US/Collection/the-gibson-murphy-lab-acoustic JC
  22. Here’s a black doves in flight from 2014 for comparison: https://reverb.com/item/61144619-2014-gibson-doves-in-flight The back strip on Peter’s is too blurry to make a judgment alone , but if you look at the doves on the headstock they look similar to the ones Peter’s has. Don Ruffato at Gibson has mentioned that each one of those doves was hand done and so they will not all be exactly the same . JC
  23. Blue is my favorite color . She’s been a Gibson artist for a long time , congrats and I hope some grandparents are in a position to gift this guitar to their granddaughters. If they can make it in lefty , i’ll do my best to get one . Blue and Texas are two important things in my life . As a Hummingbird freak and fanatic I love it . JC
