  1. It looks to a newer Gibson based on the vintage 50’s Southern Jumbo which did not have a crown . Lookinh through Google he has an old Southern Jumbo maybe he wanted a replica of it to not take the vintage one on the road all the time . JC
  2. Beautiful! Welcome to the world of birds again . JC
  3. In another time Gibson offered different versions of the Songwriter : Studio,Standard, Deluxe and Custom I believe were the 4 models . Now they just offer 1 and I am pretty sure that the reference to the “studio” model is a typing mistake . It has nothing to do with the thinness of the more recent “studio” models Gibson came out with a few years back. The 4 models they offered a while back had the same body dimensions and the only thing that varied were the inlays or the bridge and the custom had Ebony fingerboard and bridge vs Rosewood for the other models . JC
  4. This is perfectly normal. Sometimes they run out of one type of label and use a different one . I own an Emmylou Harris model that has her signature on it and yet upon careful inspection of the label you see it says “True Vintage Series” on it . The True Vintage Series didn’t have any artist models in it . JC
  5. In this one he plays the reissue . I love mine and it gets better every year that I play it . The original he said was purchased from George Gruhn in Nashville . JC
  6. If you are interested to know: The century of progress was never Elvis’ main acoustic for shows , his main one is a Gibson L00 legend or sometimes he uses a black 1930’s L 00 with a fire stripe guard . But in the YouTube video Gibson used to have on their channel he said it was an important guitar for several albums , the main one being Blood and Chocolate .His 1936 original was damaged in a flood but put back together by Gibson and that’s how the signature came about . Here are a few clips where you can see him playing the original : JC
  7. the only one I have on hand was while I was cleaning/restringing. It came with the custom black Costello case and certificate .The signed label is also inside the case JC

  10. According to a Mark from Folkway Music who has been able to examine 3 SJ 200’s from the prewar era the 3 he looked at had regular X bracing and not double X bracing like the Gibson literature suggests . JC
  11. The resolution of the pictures are too low , can you post a link to the shop website ? first: just because it doesn’t say TV on the label doesn’t mean it’s not a TV , Not every TV model said TV since the labels are typed by hand . second: the serial number will confirm if it’s a 2008 , and if that’s the case … then it has all the makings of a TV. Is the case Black with Yellow interior ? JC
  12. My opinion: Leave it off … it’s a battle scar and part of the history of your guitar .It won’t look as good just glued back on … so leave it off and that way over time it will look like a proper vintage guitar . JC
  13. Folks, Check it out : https://youtu.be/m5JAnTMMIJo JC
  14. 2 of the fretboard inlays on my J 200 developed cracks over time … they never got any worse . JC
  15. Steve Jones of The Pistols plays one as well : https://www.instagram.com/p/BX5tbaYl8SH/?utm_medium=copy_link JC
  16. Same with wood … And why Gibson is using Walnut to make their most affordable models (it’s a North American wood so no import costs).Mahogany has gone up and there’s a lot less of it than 50,60,80 years ago. The new generation’s mahogany will be walnut and in my book that’s a good thing … Hog J 45’s and Hummingbirds will be a luxury . JC
  17. It happened … you just didn’t notice it . Inflation eventually was going to force them to raise just like any other business. JC
  18. DB, Both the L 00 original and the standard have the same guts , the only difference is the tuners and the silk screen logo on the original vs the Pearl inlay on the standard . The reason they did that is because they are aware some people who are touring musicians need the grovers for dependability vs maybe someone who plays at home who will be more attracted to the white plastic buttons .So buying a standard and swapping the tuners would defeat the purpose of both lines existing . I own an L 00 and the body is very comfortable, and it’s very versatile. If you’re in Texas give the shop I do business with a call : Fuller’s Guitar in Houston Phone :713-880-2188 They have a standard in stock but if you really want an Original they could order it for you (if you are willing to wait ) : https://www.fullersguitar.com/gibson-l-00-standard-vintage-sunburst-40982487.html they stand by the products they sell and are a world class shop. P.D My own personal experience is L 00’s are magical guitars . JC
