  1. I've missed this show. Look forward to some new episodes. Also glad to see Robert Fripp doing something else than those cringey videos with Toya.
  2. One year, I think I was in 11th Grade we had a big Halloween party in the woods. I made a home-made Ninja costume and even made a wooden sword. For the longest time, no one knew who I was and it was a hit. It was the only time I remember putting any time/work into a costume.
  3. Yes. I bought the Legacy kinda on a whim. It was the first generation model and Carvin put it on eBay at a significantly reduced price after the later models came out. I loved the amp, but it was just so heavy and had no Master Volume, it just wasn't practical for bar gigs. Unless we were outside or in a large auditorium I could never turn Volume past 2. Another off brand tube amp I had was a B52. It was kind of like a poor man's Mesa Boogie. It had 212s and a great Master Volume. For a brief time I had both the B52 and the Carvin. Now I have neither.
  4. Had a private party gig tonight. It was at the community center of a nice neighborhood up in Havre de Grace Maryland. Gig went very well, but drive home was about the worst, most stressful drives home I remember. Almost an hour on I95 South, with a misty rain and low visibility. My windows kept fogging up and I could barely see the lines in the road. But I obviously got home OK or I wouldn't be posting here.
  5. This was my rig for many years. Now it's more like this.
  6. Just getting around to checking this out. I like the new PRS. It's understated and classy looking. Glad it plays as good as it looks. Congratz
  7. Played a high school reunion tonight. Classes 1965-1985. Beautiful outdoor venue at an Equestrian Center in Harford County Md. Weather was perfect. Probably 700 people there. Another band played before us and they were very good. I think most of that band also went to this high school because they seemed to know many of the guests and they stuck around after they were finished playing. It was a fun gig, we played well and the people enjoyed it. I actually played 3 gigs this week, Thursday, Friday (acoustic) and tonight. Now I'm gonna pour a little tequila, watch Orioles highlights and then go to bed, then enjoy Sunday watching The Ravens.
  8. I meant to say it does have nibs. Sometimes the skinny E string slips down and gets caught around the 3rd fret. I'm going to Edit that part above.
  9. Here are the pics you requested. The rectangle thing on the back is what I think a I-Phone screen protector. I can only guess that he put that on to protect from belt buckle. Also notice there ARE Nibs on the binding. I don't really care either way, but will admit if I'm not careful, when playing around the 3rd fret, the skinny E string will occasionally slip over the side of the fretboard and get stuck.
  10. I'll have to take those photos you ask for, but can't get to it right now. I'll get them maybe tomorrow. Meanwhile, here is a close up of headstock with custom TRC that I had made too. Oh and a cicada on there too. That was at a gig during the 17 year brood.
  11. I've posted several times the story of how I got it after my friend Ed died. But originally he called me one day, back in 2011, and said he was going to GC to maybe buy this new Epiphone LP and did I want to go with him. He was more of a drummer, but could play guitar and bass too. So we went to GC but didn't think much of the Epi. We started testing other guitars but nothing was impressing us. Then we went into that room you are talking about and they had one of the new Robot Guitar LPs. Tried that and it was nothing spectacular. Then just as we were about to give up and leave, he grabbed this Custom Shop 1957 Reissue and began playing on it. He immediately loved it and we plugged it into a Kustom tube amp. There was another dude in there too and we all sat taking turns playing this guitar and loving it. Although he didn't originally plan on spending that much, he went ahead and bought it. He was drummer in our band, but he would often bring that guitar to gigs for me to play. So when he tragically died one night as we were all jamming, his family told us to take what we wanted of his music gear, which he had plenty of. So I made sure that Gold Top went with me and have it to this day. This is him holding it the night we brought it home.
  12. Welcome back. Congratz on the R7. The story is actually very similar to the story of how my R7 was originally purchased before I owned it.
  13. Only one I ever felt was in 2011 when one hit the East Coast. It shook our machine shop pretty good. Also damaged the Washington Monument in DC. But I think the OP was a metaphor.
  14. I was working at BWI for US Airways as a Supervisor at the time. I was also trained as Ground Security Coordinator (GSC). As part of my ongoing GSC training, a good portion was taken up discussing Al Qaeda and OBL. That whole summer before 9/11 we were constantly getting Information Circulars and Security Directives from the FAA. There was definite intel that something was being planned. But most of the concern was with IEDs and artfully concealed weapons. The night before, I was late night Supervisor and got out after midnight. Me and a few others stayed up drinking a little after work, so I got home about 2am. The next morning, my 2 older kids went off to school and my wife was taking our youngest son to Ikea with her mom and sister. She woke me up and said a plane had hit WTC. I assumed a small plane and went back to sleep. At some point I realized it was eerily quiet because I can usually hear planes flying over our house. Then I heard the sound of jet engines and could tell it wasn't a civilian aircraft and it sounded right above the roof. I got up and looked out window to see two A-10s flying just above tree level. I got up, let my dog out and switched on TV to see the chaos. I immediately knew it was OBL behind what was happening. I tried calling the office at work, since I was due in at 3PM but got no answer. I called my manager on his cell phone and he told me the airport has been evacuated and don't bother trying to get in. One of the women at work, was working the gates and her husband was in the tower as an Air Traffic Controller. He called her at the gate she was working and told her there was still one plane in the air and may be headed toward BWI. Somehow she repeated this and it was overheard, and a panic began and spread. People began running for the exits and just dropped their belongings, lost their shoes etc. Glad I missed all that. There's so much more I could elaborate on, but I don't feel like typing all that and it would probably just bore you all. 🙂 Although I didn't directly know anyone killed, that day certainly affected my job, career and basically entire life thereafter.
  15. Just getting home from a duo gig at another Rams Head bar. Great night and great crowd. Had a friend from back in the day come out too. So this bar has TV's all over. While we are playing, I'm watching 3 different screens. One has Orioles beating the Red Sox. Another has the US Open Tennis tournament and another screen had Chive TV. It's hard to keep track of what you're supposed to be playing, when you're also watching 3 TV's
  16. That's no way to treat a friend.
  17. Got myself a Peterson StroboStomp Mini. It arrived from Sweetwater on Saturday and I used it at the gig that night. I immediately love it. Over the years I've gone through various tuning methods. Whether clip-on, multi effects with tuner or stand alone pedal. Most recently I've been using an Octopus, but that has been giving me volume issues lately. No matter what tuner I used, I was never really happy with the end result. Even when it showed right-on, I found myself making little adjustments by ear. But I hate doing that live at gig. People don't want to hear a guitar being tuned. So I after doing some research, I went with Peterson, and got the mini to save a few bucks. Not only is this tuner more accurate, but it had settings for something called Sweetened tunings. I used the GTR setting last night and noticed the difference. I haven't had a chance to go through all the setting and options yet. Here's a 45 second video overview of the pedal.
  18. I'm not sure how all these bands hold up today, but at one time I was a fan of every band in this lineup. I'm not gonna be cynical and mock them for keeping at it. Of them all, Tool is the youngest. Then I will guess in descending order, G and R, Metallica, Iron Maiden, AC/DC and lastly Judas Priest.
  19. Had a great gig tonight with the full band. It was a beautiful night on the Columbia Lakeside. The load in/out was a PITA but the crowd was awesome and we sounded really good. Since my wife actually got some footage of us (me) for once and since that other thread went away, I'll post a clip here. If I had known my voice was so prominent , I would have been more self conscious. I'm no singer. From where I stood, my vocal was more buried in the mix.
  20. Yeah. I saw this in a group text this morning. Steve and I play a lot of Buffett songs at our acoustic gigs. He did a solo gig at a neighborhood party tonight and the entire first set was dedicated to Jimmy. I had a band gig tonight and of course we did 2 of his songs in tribute. Didn't know until this thread what the cause was. RIP
  21. I remember reading an interview sometime in the 90s with Johnny Rotten. (I've never seen anything with him where he is not a complete ******bag) He was talking about the early punk days and said how they hated bands like Steely Dan. I remember thinking "yeah bands that could actually play their instruments and understand music theory".
  22. Got in about 11;30 from band gig tonight at a bar on the bay in East Baltimore. Beautiful venue and great crowd. Lots of dancers, young and older. Even had some ladies come up and play tambourines with us. I was having an issue in the first set with my amp getting a booming feedback when I used high gain. Even if I muted the strings, it would still this weird, low pitched feedback After talking to our bass player/sound guy, he said he had some of my mic'd guitar amp coming through my monitor and he could take that out if I wanted. I said yes please. I can hear my amp directly, I don't need it in monitor. That solved the problem, and 2nd and 3rd sets were fine. BTW. What happened to the Pinned thread of our rehearsal/gig footage?
  23. After posting this, I got curious and asked my friend, who I also work for. He was one of my old friends who used to go to this place regularly. I guess it wasn't quite as I remembered it. Apparently it was an actual legitimate venue. I found this old news clip about the place from around 1986.
