  1. I played a Taylor GP 317e today and I agree that this is nothing like a J45. It is a solid sitka spruce top with solid sapele back and side. I was singularly unimpressed with this guitar but I didn't plug it in. It felt and played more like a Larrivee L03 although it is a little less resonant. I strummed it and played it fingerstyle and it just has no character. In contrast to the V braced 700 and 800 series, there is no comparison. The V braced 700 and 800's have sparkle, resonance and sustain for days.
  2. The piezo element for the high e string doesn't even start until about 1/8" back from the end of the braid on those undersaddle pickups. So make sure the end of the braid is snug up against the far wall of the saddle slot and then place the saddle into the slot on an 45 degree angle at the bass end and then lower it like a pocket-knife blade towards the treble end. This usually presses the pickup braid further down the treble end of the slot and smooths out any wrinkles. If your saddle isn't really snug, keep pressure on the saddle until you get it under string tension.
  3. As a side-related note, how do I post a link to a Vimeo video that appears as the YouTube videos do in posts?
  4. My channel isn't monetized. I get ZERO for my YouTube content. There are YouTube videos that play the ENTIRE Even in the Quietest Moments album. Plus, I'm pretty sure Roger Hodgson will get nothing from the advertisements YouTube puts on my videos. Plus, I have the EITQM album on vinyl, CD and Apple Music (as well as all the other Supertramp albums on vinyl, CD and Apple Music). Following your logic rct, there would be nothing to share here either through MP3 or video but individuals personal compositions - nothing wrong with that, but I don't compose original material and have been playing cover songs for over 40 years. So I should stop sharing my personal performances because James Taylor is getting ripped off? BTW, I learned how to play Fire and Rain by watching James Taylor show me step by step on his YouTube video.
  5. LOL. I've got a couple of Eagles covers on YT with no problems.
  6. Supertramp and Evergreen Media are ***s! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrPQ6SeYVoA
  7. It looks like Supertramp covers are more susceptible to copyright strikes. No more Supertramp in my setlist or covers. (Trashes a month of work on a multitrack version of Even in the Quietest Moments). Even in the quietest moments They come for you What you gonna do? And even when the vid's for learning They just take it down I just feel the clown... dear But still, you keep uploading You give it another try Well there's a lot of me got to go under before I retry Don't you let my vid disappear Don't you let my vid disappear Don't you let the song be leavin' You are just creating more strife Say what you please Do what you please Say what you please Do what you please Oh Roger don't go.... And even when the song is over Where have I been? Was it just a dream? And even though your cause is selfish Where do I begin? Chuck it in the bin... dear? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWzl0ffHayg
  8. This... right here. "You can't teach music without playing music." "Is Bruce Springsteen blocking videos? Of course not!" I think I'll put my cover video back up on YouTube but not mention the name of the band or the wonderful artist that wrong the unnamed song and see what happens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjxYTl2d7xg
  9. Thanks kidblast and tpbiii. I'll check out that link kidblast and I've already started looking at Vimeo tpbiii.
  10. I've been doing videos of me playing covers of my favourite songs for years now. Yesterday, I received a notice from YouTube that they had taken down my video of me playing "Even in the Quietest Moments" on my Gibson Hummingbird 12 string due to a copyright takedown notice they received from "Evergreen Social Media Associates". I now have one copyright strike. If I get more, they will disable my account. I don't get this. There are full videos of the ACTUAL TRACK FROM THE SUPERTRAMP ALBUM on YouTube as we speak. And my amateur attempt at playing the song the way I interpreted it with all of its mistakes and incorrect lyrics is copyright infringement? My channel doesn't have enough subscribers to even qualify for advertising revenue! What happened to fair use? If I play this song at my next open mic will I have to start paying performance royalties? Edit: I put the video up on Vimeo. We'll see how long it lasts there. https://vimeo.com/331452293
  11. +1 What he said. I've played the guitar since I was 14 years old. I am now 62. I waited 36 years to own my first Gibson - a 2006 Songwriter. During those intervening years, I played Yamaha, Dean, Epiphone and Larrivee; all good guitars but not as good as a hand-Boseman-built Gibson in my subjective opinion. I now own three top of the line acoustics; SJ200 Golden Age, Custom Shop Hummingbird 12 string and a Martin 000-28vs. I was able to get those guitars through years of trading up, two for one and saving and budgeting. Are they over-priced? No. Pricey? YES! Worth it? YES!
  12. Thanks again, Proclaimer! Gassing for a 12 string is nothing to be ashamed of. Guitar collections are not complete (are they ever?) without a 12 stringer in the arsenal. I've had many over the years. A Rickenbacker 360-12, two Yamahas, a Larrivee, a Taylor and now a Gibson. 12 strings are awesome if you can get one that doesn't kill you either trying to play it, tune it, or change the strings. They say you can either play a 12 string or keep it in tune, but you can't do both. LOL If you ever get a 12 string, do yourself a favour and tune it to open C (only takes an hour or so) and play the Moody Blues' "Question". I made a guitar tab that shows the correct way of playing the awesome song. Question by The Moody Blues I recorded a cover version of the song about a decade ago with my Yamaha FG720-12 and my Rickenbacker bass. I might have to redo it with the Hummingbird 12! Question Cover
  13. Thanks, Proclaimer! Rick tours with the name SuperTramp and Roger tours as Roger Hodgson (Breakfast in America World Tour). Davis has been fighting multiple myeloma (not good) and has, in the past, said there was no way they would get back together as there was "no harmony" between them.
  14. Thanks, Guys! I've been a Supertramp fan forever. I think Even in the Quietest Moments is my favourite album although Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America are well played on my iPhone as well. I particularly like "Fools' Overture". The middle synthesizer riff was the theme song for a popular news magazine called "W5" (still running) in Canada back in the late 70's
  15. Thanks, MP! It took me longer to unlearn the WRONG way to play this, than it took me to learn it the first time 30 years ago!
  16. Thanks, billroy. I had the Rode NT1 about a foot and a half in front of me and the guitar and sent that to the left channel while I plugged the onboard LRBaggs Element pickup direct into the right channel and then just balanced them and added a bit of compression, EQ and reverb.
  17. Thanks, dan. This tune is one of the first things I play whenever I pick up a 12. This and "Over The Hills and Far Away"... although, at my age, I'll just call it "Over the Hill".
  18. Thanks, Nick! It is gorgeous to look at and a joy to play. I don't think I've ever had a 12 string that played this well.
  19. It has been a while since I put another video together. I've been working on a multi-track cover of Supertramp's "Even in the Quietest Moments" and thought I'd just play through a live version. I finally got my 2017 Custom Heritage Cherryburst 12 string back from service where my tech made some excellent tweaks to the nut and the saddle. It plays much better now and sounds glorious. I flubbed a couple of lyrics but at least I played it all the way through without crashing and burning. The flatpicking pattern on this song isn't what you'd expect. I studied a live performance video of Roger Hodgson playing this solo and had to go against my instincts to not pick this with just alternate picking DUDUDU. It is more like DDUDUD. The multi-track is taking a while as I'm building it from a MIDI file as there is no backing track available for this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QLvYJZbWhE&feature=youtu.be
  20. It looks like the G7th Performance 3 is close to being released for sale. Tony Polecastro's video review dropped today and, surprise, surprise, he's impressed with it. "The Swiss Army Knife of capos". I couldn't agree more. I wouldn't be surprised to see it released Friday (March 1). Watch towards the end of Tony's video where he expresses surprise at having his quote "The ART system is a huge advance in capo design; it allows for buzz-free capoing and stable tuning on every guitar in my collection" included on the back of the packaging on the Performance 3. So, at least we know Tony didn't give a good review for the "fame". LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTA3oJKwmOY
  21. Hey, Bill. The "magic" is in the engineering and how it works on a variety of fretboards. If you only have one fretboard, and your Kyers works for you, there is no magic. My Kyser is in daily use as a headphone hook.
