  1. I am sorry for your loss.

My goodness.....I thought I wasn't seeing correct as there is another man on here who has lost his wife too.....I cannot imagine.

But your guitar sure looks nice though!!!

And I hope you do put your emotions and feelings into it to help you get through your loss.

Of course.....nothing will replace your loved one ever......it only takes the pain away for a little while.

    Good luck

Thanks for your kind words, Bigtim.  Like so many who seek solace in music, doing so has taken my unhealthy grieving mental state and redirected the focus towards something positive- i.e. playing guitar, and revisiting a past passion that has never wavered.  Like saying goodbye to a loved one, on the morning before departure to Chicago, I took photos of my SG which I'll happily share. No pun intended, but the middle-aged instrument had led a very sheltered life and was never given the well deserved opportunity to sonically soar, as it was made to do.  Now, hopefully, someone energetic and younger can bring that SG into a player-guitar relationship that will last his or her lifetime. That's also something Gibsons were always designed to do: become legacy instruments for generations of players. It's far better to pass down a well played Gibson than the rusty old shotgun that Grandpappy used to hunt squirrels. I'm still sending all the good Karma energy to that ES 335 that told me it wanted to go home with me just as Taylor, the Native American medicine man, in Poltergeist II told the traumatized family that their station wagon had spoken to him and told him it wanted to go home with him. That said, I'm thinking a custom shop 335 is too high class of a lady to be subjected to daily use.  I'm thinking now that it would be more practical to seek out a 335 that is a more salt of the earth type.

Thanks for sharing the picture of that SG!!

She was a beauty and someone will love it very much.

I got my first guitar for Christmas when I was 6 years old. I had an older brother who played. He would show me chords and such but I just held it and made a bunch of noise with it for the most part until I got a little older and more interested in guitars with the desire to play and learn.

My mom died of cancer related treatment when I was 13.

That's when I poured all of my emotions of her loss into the instrument and devoted a life time of trying to get better to this day.

As far as the custom shop es335 goes....well let me tell you something sir....go for it if you can swing it.

I too recently bought a brand new custom shop 57 Reissue Les Paul custom shop Gibson.  I didn't need it as I already had what I thought were good guitars....but there was something special in this 57 that I had never felt before.....it kind of spoke to me...it played better than any guitar I ever played....maybe it was the big neck profile.....and it sounded better that the other Les Paul's I have owned.........it is my all time favorite guitar now....I do not play it everyday....but I do play it often and it inspires me to play better.

It is a fabulous guitar for sure.

So with that said........treat yourself and get the custom shop es335.....you may be surprised at how much you would play it!!!

  3. I have had the same thing happened in ebay.....just relist it and keep on going. I quit listing on reverb as soon as they made you wait to get paid until the customer received the item.

I still sell on ebay....I have had a few returns but it all works out.

  4. Very nice. I played one a guy brought to a gig i was at one night about 20 years ago.

I absolutely loved it. Very great instrument.

Learn some licks and play the hell out of it!!

    Definitely a keeper for sure!!!

  5. If I am going to fork over 4k plus into a guitar, I want mine to be pretty myself.

Everyone has their own preference but I  would rather put my own miles on a guitar from honest wear.

I cannot see where an artificially aged finish ever made a guitar sound better......I can see where it would make it feel broken in though.

    Enjoy your new guitar!!

  6. This is just one example and there are a ton more here.

The first is a local CL ad and the 2nd is a new model from Sweetwater. I can do without the Murphy lab but this is a prime example to me.  It is the same for the standard, classic and traditional runs as well here.

If your a fender guy there are some pretty good deals to be had locally.

But your $hit out of luck if you are primarily a Gibson player looking for good prices on used ones here in middle TN.

  7. The whole problem with the used market currently is the over priced gear.

I do not mind a good deal but some of these guys think their 1-2 year old guitar is still worth as much as brand new one.

In most cases it is better just to pull the trigger on a new piece instead of over paying for a used piece.

I look at this as a lawyer's wall hanger.

Retirement gift for an attorney (and Led Zep fan) hanging up his spurs, and settling down somewhere near Manassas, Virginia.

Can't actually picture a currently gigging musician seeing that for $50K and saying, "That exactly what I need to go on the road with next week."

    😗

Your right....and that  same retired Zep fan lawyer guy can only play the wipeout riff.....but not the whole song.

  9. Well to be honest, I believe your lack of.......pick harmonics are due to the lower output pickups not the guitar itself.

The tp6 I had on mine actually killed the tone in my guitars.

Yes they are handy for fine tuning but that comes at a cost by taking the natural character of the guitar away.

I actually love my r7 goldtop.....it does ring out more acoustically unplugged and has a lower output pickups than my other Gibsons....but to me I like it.

but if your new to you goldtop isn't cutting it....well I would try a pickup swap.

..but if your not going to keep it.....I would sell it or return it if possible and get your self a standard if you would like it better.

sorry it is t working out for you.

These 2 guitars are the same exact price on Sweetwater right now, both a steal IMO ($1,799.99):

Option1:  Gibson Les Paul Special - TV Yellow

Option 2:  Fender American Professional II Telecaster - Butterscotch Blonde with Maple Fingerboard

    US23115349-front-large.jpg.auto.webp

I was really on the fence, but I ended up with the ugly Telecaster.  If it's good enough for ... [insert a million names]

That's ok, ugly guitars need love too!!

I have owned about 5 telecasters and a couple of custom spin off ones. I like them but I still think they are of the ugly ducklings in the world of guitars.

Been a while since I last posted here, but as I was lurking I came across this post and thought I would chime in.

I have a 2022 R8, and despise the instability of the period correct Kluson tuners.

I am going to be replacing them with the direct retrofit Kluson Revolution keystone locking tuners (Non collared). Less wraps , better ratio. Plus faster string changes if ya pop one mid set.

Have you made the swap yet and if so was it a direct drop in?

Sorry been away for a while and just saw this

I’ve played several over the years & have been very impressed by them.. Before Covid I went to NAMM & spent quite a bit of time at their Booth.. They had a great variety & I played quite a few.. They are excellent Guitars. I must admit I’m not a fan of their Headstocks.. But, that’s my only nit..

I have only been around thr one my friend owned.....I have never even saw another for sale anywhere in person ever.....there is a h535 for sale here locally I almost bought but he wants a bit too much for it.

    I got to admit though

...this guitar is super nice and the neck is good and chunky. It plays very well and the stock Duncan pickups sound good too.....but I may swap them out for a custom set I have on order.

  13. I have always kind of wanted one. I picked one up recently. It is a 2023 H150 in the Dirty Lemon Burst finish.

The top is a little plain but I kind if like it like that. It really is a very nice quality guitar.

I have only been around one other Heritage that my friend has owned since the late 80s and I always thought it was a great guitar.

Here are some pics of mine.

really nice. what neck profile ?

I was told it was the wide  one....it doesn't feel all that wide of a fretboard to me.....feels like a c shaped back profile.......reminds of pf like a gibson 60s slim on the width of the neck with a more rounded shape.

That's the best I can explain it.

    It plays very well though

  15. Well....not new but new to me.

Saw this pop up locally. I really like the color. The guy I got it from said it was the wide neck version. Apparently PRS has a way different neck description as the neck does not feel wide at all compared to gibson guitars

I really like the bridge...very simple and works great.

It has a few marks and little pings but it  plays very good.

Pickups are decent enough. I know a guy who has a PRS and whatever pickups he put into his are the bomb. I may look into what he chose.
