    I was at a show this weekend and one of the guitarists came out with an SG (definitely Gibson) and it looked like it was only fitted with one humbucker at the bridge. There were also holes and a finish discoloration where a vibrola or some other original long tailpiece had been removed and then the guitar was fitted with a stopbar tailpiece..

    ... did Gibson ever make a single-humbucker SG??

    Hey Eddie;

    In the early 90s there were a few if I remember correctly. The SG-1 was 24 frets and a single Hb. There was also the SG-X (no pick guard and single HB), and the SG-Z with a HB and a single (not p90), early to mid 2000s I remember one with a HB and a p90 in the neck.

    Probably a few others along the way.

    Pics of the one in question would definitely help.

    Hi jdgm,

    The headstock says it is a Gibson. Or do you think it is just a copy? It still sounds nice 🙂20200528_220944.thumb.jpg.d8806fe4c1597cbad244461d8d19358d.jpg

    It looks like something trying awful hard to be an L5-CES. But I don’t think it’s a Gibson. I could be wrong, I’m not much of an ES guy.

  3. Hey;

    From 2006-2016 these were re-issued. Not all of them had a custom shop indicators (Logos) on them, but there weren’t any regular production dc’s with these appointments at the same time.
    serial number format fits CS, with this serial I would say 2008. Fairly certain that’s what you’ve got.

    Hope that helps

    One of the guys told me to post it here as well, just taking his advice 👍🏻

    No worries, I was a little abrupt.

    Gibson has used numerous serial formats over the years, and they don't always make sense.

    If you check the link I posted you'll get an idea of what I mean.

    That is about right for an SG Junior, but a LP DC Jr in TV Yellow, specifically, is in much higher demand. Even thought they are almost the same guitar, personally I think the SG compared to the DC is a better design, specially for comfort. But there is something about the DC in yellow. This one has a non-compensated bridge which may be aluminum, to me it would explain why its so bright.

    TV yellow has always been my fav colour on these too (and the specials). I get all the rarity and demand stuff,  just not worth it to me and where I am in life (and to be honest, not sure I'd ever spend that kind of cash on a guitar).

    I own both (not vintage or high end models) and my preference changes with mood.

    Didn't mean to rain on you or anything, it really is a sweet guitar.

    I have seen early 50's original Les Paul TV DC's going for around $35,000, but this one is a Les Paul DC Junior in in TV Yellow not the actual Les Paul TV Model.

    This DC Junior does appear to be in very nice playing condition...

    It's killer for sure.

    I know where there is an equally clean early 60's SG Junior for half that right now.

    Yeah I get its rarer than the SG, and to ME all that vintage gear is way over priced for the most part, kinda like vintage muscle cars.

    Some of that could just be due to the perspective from my side of the fence though.

  7. I'm sure it does, one day I will find out. (Just need the exchange rate to get better)

    Never bonded well with Teles, had one a while back, put just about every pick up in the neck, fav was a p90. Just could not get along with the neck. Have a Squire Tele  right now, has a beefier neck which is helping the bonding process. Hmm....might have a soap bar somewhere in the parts boxes.

  8. Lol no not SD, although he does have a staple pick up that's been screaming to go into a LPC in have. One day I'll find out if it sounds as good as it looks.

    That is a terrible terrible problem you have, especially with all the shops closed, can't buy what you cant touch.

  9. Yeah the noise isn't for everyone, but that tone.

    Maybe sacrilegious but you could always pop a 100 in the neck of one of those tele things you like so much.

    could have been,  I remember seeing the trem versions as well.  I can't recall if it was the FR or the Kahler.

    RCT, Right the GEMS were mid/late 90s too.

    Think the Gems all had p90s though didn't they?

  11. Hey Pinch;

    What I do for these situations like mentioned and analyzed in this thread is use a toothpick.

    I use round ones, the diameter is near perfect, the points can be kinda long to ensure a tight fit to the bottom so I snap the point off. Drop of good old wood glue on the broken end and insert. Leave the rest sticking out until the glue dries (be sure to wipe up any smeared glue on the head stock face right away). Once dry snap off the excess, trim if required.  You're all done.

    Hope the helps.

  12. Hey Kid,

    yeah these stretched over a few years for sure, maybe even in the late 80's early 90's. Various colors and burst and hardware options over the different runs, think some even came with a trem, want to say Kahler (know some L.P. Customs had the Kahlers in this same period), but that murky memory again.

    Hi TL5;

    What you have there is a 96 L.P. Studio Lite, were made for a few years in late 80's to midish 90's. Black hardware would have been stock. Lite due to chromite (balsa) inserts for weight relief rather than Swiss cheese or chambered, if I recall correctly, but my memory can be murky at times.

    Hope that helps.

    When (what year) did Gibson stop using the split diamond headstocks logo on  the Les Paul Custom models?

    Umm never, LP Custom still has split diamond as per the Sarg's link.
