  1. I'd say drinking yourself to death at the age of 43 is paying the price.  He was hounded by the IRS, couldn'tfind work, petty much black balled for doing what everyone was doing in the business.

And it is true that " Freed was the first radio disc jockey and concert producer who frequently played and promoted rock and roll; he popularized the phrase "rock and roll" on mainstream radio."

  2. Some folks who consider themselves to be authorities on such matters have concluded that Rock n  Roll was born on the day Allan Freed first used those words on air to introduce a record,

The Moondog Coranation held at the Cleveland Arena May 21, 1952, MC`d by Alan Feed is considered the first Rock and Roll concert .

So actually it wasn't a musician who coined the words Rock and Roll at all, it was a radio disc jockey. And Alan Freed paid an enormous price for it.

  3. It requires great versatility to be successful as a studio musician,  the players  Whitefang referred to, along with JP  and so many others stared in the studio at a young age, Willy Nelson started out as a starving song writer and  studio player , I  believe he was an AM  radio dj.

It is not uncommon for the studio player to improvise a solo or come up with a fill in, and that becomes the signature sound of the record, in many cases these players never become household names, but without their in put our favorite songs wouldn' be the same, Louise Shelton is a perfect example,

  4. I don't know if someone already mentioned this, but when I have to disassemble, repair and reassemble something,  I use old egg cartons to help with the process.

I number each hole, starting with the back row, 1 through 12. Then turn it around repeat.

Then as I disassemble what ever it is I'm repairing. I place the items as they come off in the egg carton when I reassemble I just turn the egg crate around and everything is already laid out, numbered and easy to find.

UP?    [wink]   Try slowing down or proofreading, please.  It helps avoid this place appearing to be some kind of FaceBook page.  And Lord knows we don't want that!  😉

  6. A little trivia about Leo, his start in show business was as a road manager for Jim Stafford, he decided to try stand up after observing Stafford`s  stage performances.

Sadly Gallagher, due to the damage to his heart and organs  from numerous heart attacks,  spent most of his last decade in need of constant medical care.

RIP  your trials are over Leo.

Man, those guys "owned it" in the very early 80's.

    They had a helluva run.

Right!?! They were tearing it up,  they got their start in 1972 as Wid Country,  and as the house band at Canyon Land theme park near Fort Payne, they played with the likes Bobby Bare and a bunch of other popular artist

The over night success only took them 10 years.

I remember am interview I saw with JP, and he said he heard songs on the radio, and knew it was him playing on it, but didn't remember the session.

Love JP or hate him, you have to tip your hat to his savvy as a young man.

He could have joined any of thousands of bands being assemembled across Britain in the early and mid 60s. 90% of which are vague memories today, but he chose to stay in the studio and learn how to run the mixers, produce records, and  mature as a player and a person before making the leap with LZ.

  9. I always liked Donovan's song writings,  I knew Jimmy Page played on some of his recordings, I didn't know about Jeff Beck, learn something new every day,  when that stops so do you.

  10. Benny Goodman had an enormous influence on popular music including rock when you consider the black musicians he hired and introduced white audiences to Jazz and modern music.

Charlie Christian influenced the generations of rock guitarist and Gene Krupa ! It could be argued that he invented the modern drum solo after the release of Sing Sing . That solo influenced  a lot of young drummers as well,
