  1. First of all, what guitar is the best is going to be subjective to each person. IMHO, you've already got one of the better guitars around. I LOVE Norlin LP's, and the T-top pick ups are the best to be had. The other guitars you've tried are good guitars, but I think your Standard is the better guitar. Hold on to it!!!!
  2. I like the idea of having a nut that's adjustable just like with the bridge and stop bar. Like any changes some things don't work out on the first generation. If it gets worked out so that it's reliable and durable that would be a very good thing.
  3. I'm kind of on the fence with this. Do you have a pic that has better focus and with the light reflecting off the fret board? Rosewood has far more visible pores than ebony. You could also make a quick visit to any local music store and look closely at any guitar they have with a rosewood and ebony fret board for a comparison.
  4. I love the 490/498 pick up combo in my SG Standard, especially when I want to play some hard rock tunes. It just smokes through my DSL. For a LP and my ES guitars Classic 57's are my first choice for pick ups.
  5. I don't know why Gibson does not make more of these models. It really can cover a wide range of tone, then add to that the awesome playability and comfortable body style. I love all my guitars, but my CS356 is the best of them. Also glad I picked up an ES359 too!!! Brothers: CS356 and ES359
  6. Nothing like rediscovering and falling in love with a guitar again...
  7. Ummm, next time you quote someone, make sure it's the entire quote and not a partial one. I wrote: With a major cold snap coming in I was interested to hear how other folks treat their semi-hollows. In other words, I wanted to hear what other people are doing.
  8. Yeah, you folks are really in the deep freeze right now! It'll be moving in my area tomorrow. Thanks, that's what I'll do as well.
  9. I've always kept an Oasis humidifier in my all my acoustic and classical guitars when it starts getting cold and dry, mostly because of the thin wood construction and exposed unfinished wood. When not being played I keep my guitars in their cases and the latches closed. I have two spare Oasis humidifiers, but they are too tall to place standing up in the case since these guitars are thinner. I may put one laying down in a zip lock bag and leave it open a bit with the temps they are calling for the next few days. I've never used any humidifier with the electric solid body guitars, and I do a fret board conditioning and string change in the late fall and spring. With a major cold snap coming in I was interested to hear how other folks treat their semi-hollows.
  10. I was referring to Gibson ES style guitars.
  11. I'm new to the world of semi-hollow guitars. What's the general view about humidifying semi-hollows, especially during the winter months?
  12. Looks awesome! I found my CS356 by accident too. I never even knew the model even existed until I saw it in a used guitar listing while looking for an ES to add to my collection. Since it had the smaller scaled body, which I like, and it looked to be in great condition I took a chance with this guitar. It's the best find I've made, just could not have found a better guitar. Now to find an ES359!
  13. Cool! My favorite pick ups! Got'em on my CS356 and my LP Classic Custom, so it's a great comparison between the two guitars. I might put a Classic 57+ in the LP.
  14. RevDavidLee, and JO'C, awesome guitars!!! What pick ups are in the 336?
  15. Well, what a coincidence! I picked up a CS356 that was made in 2004 about a month ago. I never heard of this model until I stumbled across it. What an absolutely awesome instrument, too! It has to be one of the finest models Gibson has ever made
  16. You'll have a hard time finding anything better for a neck than maple. It's very strong, very dense and durable. Once the truss rod is adjusted properly you'll likely never have to touch it again. Gibson still uses a maple neck on the EDS-1275, and who can blame them with all that tension?!?!?
  17. Being new, don't do anything with it to protect your warranty, plus you should'nt have to in the first place. The nut is a notorious problem with new guitars. Some need to be filed out just a touch, others need a new one. Other possibilities are needing a good set up and intonation adjustment. Hope things get straightened out for you.
  18. Enjoy the new guitar and the scent of the nitro-lacquer. The scent will fade, but you'll always have your guitar to enjoy.
  19. Hey guy! Thanks for the add and link. I'll check them out. :-)

  21. That's just excellent! Of any of the burst finishes, I love the dark outline with a lighter brown/tan color on the inside allowing the wood grain to show through like your desert burst or a tobacco burst.
  22. Some darn nice guitars folks!!!
