Heating pad is not hot enough to torify wood at the molecular level, but probably hot enough to weaken glue. Not a good idea at all.

Yep. That'll play nicely. Don't get your cufflinks caught in the strings.

You're Gonna Make Lonesome When You Go

Nice nice nice. Good to be able to understand all the words. That J45 Vintage sounds oh so good, never let that one go. -
The guitar is setup at the factory for light gauge (12) strings. Mediums will throw off nearly everything - nut slot depth and width in particular. A j45 can “handle” mediums, but I’ve found that lights on my J45 closely mimick the feel of mediums on my D28.

You could try Humidipaks from Plant Waves. Designed to release or absorb moisture to maintain everything at 50%. I mostly fight dryness, but these have worked well for me.

Ooooo, enjoyed that FB - nice J45 sound there. Such a versatile instrument. Never was a huge TW fan, but converting some of his stuff to acoustic guitar and actually pronouncing the words brings a whole different dimension to some truly great songs.

Since the first 4 frets are kind of toasty you might consider replacing them all with Evo wire or something and have the fretboard planed down or replaced as part of that task.

Rolling Down 20 - New Original Song (using my Dove )

Some inner John Prine in this one. Keep writin’. -
Channeling your inner Elton through a guitar sure requires mastery of barre chords. I can’t do it - sure is a good listen, nice.

Martin D-18 find an Authentic if you can. Loudest guitar I ever owned, had to let it go it was such a tiger. Or, you can try and buy Hogeye’s banner J-45 it is seriously loud when played with a pick, easily rival to the D18 Authentic that I had, and is loaded with Mojo.

How are you all feeling fellow old people?
duluthdan replied to MorrisrownSal's topic in Gibson Acoustic
My wife says I’m feeling fine, so I’ll go with that. The more time passes, the closer to “vintage” the guitars I bought new get, so there’s that. -
How does warranty repair work affect resale?
duluthdan replied to Mr.Woody's topic in Gibson Acoustic
Bridge Reglue by authorized Gibson Repair Shop would not deter me at all. -
Wow I gotta learn that song what a great performance.
-
Never understood the words he sang, but he projects all the emotion out of his guitar so you understood the song. Talented man.

Townsend on a J-200 is other worldly. Indescribably great sound.
-
Fabulous comparison video, clearly demonstrates the reason a person needs both of these .
-
Everyone should have both of these to play for an afternoon. The vintage has that sound, the new one a bit more sustain? The factory is cranking out some stellar instruments - that reissue sounds spot on. Wonder what the neck profile is? I better be careful I don’t talk myself into another J45....

"The bluegrass prerogative to remove chords and make things simpler". Love it. I love the old SJ.
-
Oooooo, what is that 12 fretter in the middle ?
-
Love the thick baseball bat neck - hard to see, but this model may have the tapered headstock too? The J45 Legend I have from 2006 is a similar beast, and I think has a tone all its own because of that added mass. I think these are going to be sought after, and hard to find.

Love that guitar - so mellow, and sits back and supports the song so nicely. I'm still flabbergasted that you took the time and effort to cobble together that guitar. -
Outstanding. Love that 45.

I think this guy's videos are tremendous - scroll around and find him teaching Suite Judy Blue Eyes on a Gibson Dove.
