  1. Nice guitar.

I too got one on sale but the single pickup version.  I initially stopped at a GC and did not like the two they had, body made of too many pieces , sky high action, rough neck, etc.

A day later I was heading to a show and needed to kill about 20 minutes, stopped by another GC and there it was  a black one , two-piece body where you can hardly tell where the joint is, a lovely neck, etc. very well made but heavy for a Jr, almost 8 pounds. The guitar had a nick, negotiated the price to $515, the guys at GC were nice. I am very happy with it, it hangs nice and low, siper slim neck and great sounding P90.

  2. Damn tornado really put a hurt on that long *** path it took. I live in the south side of Nashville and it is hilly around here, tornadoes typically prefer flatter areas.

Searcy is OK, he's northwest of the city, bad blues player is in east TN I believe, I wonder if Big Tim? is OK

I slept hard that night and it bothered me the next day because I had no idea there were warnings, woke up to multiple messages, texts, school cancellation, my work emergency contact, etc. I woke up in a daze wondering what the hell was going on, as the news kept coming I realized the magnitude of the loss of life and damage.

There are a bunch of benefit shows happening and I hope this virus does not throw a wrench on those plans. There are some confirmed cases in the area.

  3. My favorite Kelloggs granola bars became tiny, so I switched to Kashi cereal bars and those not only got smaller after a while but terrible.

A really good steak burger place in the neighborhood shrank the size of their paddies for sure just to name a few. Their chicken wings became "one pound" meaning 10, not a dozen.

But what's worse is how expensive Nashville has become in the last 5 years since a world of people from California, New York and other places have moved here. $6 Miller Lites at the honky tonks, WTF.  This place is almost unrecognizable.

  4. Congratulations on your anniversary. Be glad it did not coincide with the NFL draft that drew 600,000 people. The rest of the the town is empty right now.

Nashville has grown at a crazy pace the last 4 years, it is nuts. I have lived 23 years here and it is crazy to see this once small city to grow like that.

You do not mention what dates you are coming down but...(oops I see you said May)

Downtown is mandatory, Honky Tonks, the earlier in the day the better to avoid the crazy crowds. Beer tastes good during the day too.

Hot Chicken is a must, even if you get the mild, Pepperfire, Hattie B's, Prince's.

Guitar shops, unless you are wanting to look at some high end stuff, I'd skip it. You have GCs in your town.

The area by Third Man Records Studio/Store (Jack White) not far from downtown has some breweries nearby. Look up the area to see if you are interested.

East Nashville, a very short Uber ride and you are in Hipster/Artist/Musician and Gentrifiers live there. There are a few cool bars and restaurants. For Pizza go to 5 Points Pizza.

Vanderbilt Area or "West End" there are a few cool bars, Chuy's Mexican Restaurant is a chain but it's cool and probably you do not have one on your neck of the woods.

Centennial Park for a daytime walk, and look at the Parthenon. Classic stuff. Also on the West End.

The Opry House is on the East-ish Side, not proper East Nashville but only the Opry Mills Mall is nearby and a bunch of cheesy country shops. Id' skip it.

If you happen to be here on June 8th The Rock N' Roll Residency is playing a show and that would be a must. They are bringing the guys from That Metal Show for comedic entertainment. (Not Eddie but the other two)

  5. Still modding my Marshallized Epiphone Valve Junior. This time only cosmetic stuff. But I did it to open some room for some switches.

I love tinkering with stuff and I also love this head, it sounds great using an attenuator.

  6. Thanks Rabs!

Nope Travis, I bought it on eBay, the seller makes guards for several models that do not come with one from factory. I like this style that extends into the side of the freboard like a 1960's special does.

Note how I went with a single dot inlay at the 24th fret, I only had one left and looks better this way.

  7. That looks like a great job [thumbup]

Ive only done squares and trapezoids well and dots but that's easy as.... Its a long process if you do it the old school way which I do, but I have a dremel and want to get into doing some slightly fancier inlays at some point. Id also like to do carvings in the bodies aswell... So much I want to do, such little time [unsure]

I did not see your reply before and didn't see my double post either.

You know actually the star was easy in that a large chisel will go across two points on the star on this particular shape, does that make sense? what was very difficult is doing that on plastic. I did two trial runs on wood and it was easy.

Congrats, especially on keeping your nerve!!

Looks very good from the pics!

Thanks, no kidding, at one point I had a piece with superglue drying on the guitar, another one stuck on my finger and one piece that fell on the floor with the glue facing down.

I had run some tests on the drying time of this particular glue but the time is completely different when you apply a very small amount.

  8. Another angle, I will probably spray two more coats then let it dry for 3 days before I wet-sand it to smooth the finish.

While it dries I'll make the other minor mods planned for this guitar.

  9. Thanks man, yea, this pic shows details at their worse. None of the breaks can be seen from a foot away.

It looks good I think, better than a waterslide would. In real life it does look like MOP. The star is actually MOP.

The reason I replaced the logo is that, well, I had one laying around for years and that the logos on these SGJs are like 30% larger, they look a bit funny.

  10. Headstock inlay and refinish on my SGJ

Inlaying plastic is NOT easy, come to find out. Inlaying the star took a long time. The Gibson logo is an overlay but it got super tricky because it is old and brittle and broke off in like 6 pieces at the time I was superglueing it. It was almost panic mode for 10 minutes while handling black superglue and tiny pieces stuck to my fingers. I kept a cool head and saved it. The S is a bit off since the glue dried on me and I had to keep going. Considering what I was dealing with I still cannot believe I saved the logo. These logos cannot be found anymore.

  12. I might add, that none of the other SG examples, from which I picked the one I liked most,

of each model, suffered from "neck dive," either! That would be about 18 or so, other SG

    examples, in total. So...??? :-k

    CB

    Did you strap them on?

SG dive to several degrees, in my experience just about all of them do and a lot has to do with where you wear the guitar, if you strap'em high there is less run on the strap and the neck dive will be less. If the guitar is strapped very low that can help with neck dive as well. In between it gets tricky.

The new SG I bought has a slight neck dive, now, many would not consider this particular case a neck dive but I do. No way i could use a seat belt strap with it.

  13. If your guitar has neck dive and do not like gripping straps that will bunch up your shirt this is what I did:

A mutli-tool holster with belt loop and velcro that attaches to the strap on the back of the guitar. I put a 1/2 led ingot in it and that's all you need, if the guitar has extreme neck dive and you are using a super slick strap maybe an additional 1/4 pound or 1/2 will be needed. Adding one pound will make any guitar balance like an Explorer.

You can also just leave a multi-tool in the holster instead of the led if the tool is heavy enough.

The nice thing about this is there is no modification to the guitar and can be transferred to others, a slick strap will work and not grab your shirt.

I had to do this because I have nerve problems stemming all the way from my neck and just that effort to be propping up the neck with my hand was bothering me a lot.

  14. You know, I just put one of those in that control tone on my Epi Valve junior and as I posted on this thread the control works but it did bring in hiss, I wonder if it's the capacitor.

I also put one on the bright cap of my DSL15h and while it does work I wonder if it is bringing in noise.

I noticed both where out of spec but I never really used caps of these values before.

  15. Wow, that's a good looking guitar Rabs.

I finally started working on my Strat, I will be working slowly but consistently, one thing every week.

    Contoured heel.

    Neck profile shaping is done.

Decided to go with the simpler version

  16. Added a tone knob to my Epiphone Valve Jr head, the knob works really well, I am pleased with the result except I am detecting a hiss that I am not sure was there before. The hiss reacts to the tone knob meaning it gets darker or brighter so I guess it is coming from somewhere else. I can live with it for now.

Tone knob on the left, I had previously added a full size volume pot years ago.

    36429119974_6604079957_c.jpg

I decided to add a tone knob because now that I am using an attenuator some treble is lost and while it can be added back by the attentuator it can sound shrill under some settings. The tone knob sound more natural.
