  1. mostly, it's Static Electricity, more prone to this in the winter when home's the heater are running and the air is dry pull a dryer sheet that's been used once, out of your dryer, try rubbing the back of the neck and back of the body with it. you could also "improve" your ground system by making sure there is a ground wire connecting each tone/vol pot inside the control cavity. there should already be one run to a ground wire that is installed on the treble side of your bridge post.
  2. google is your friend.. Yamano Music is the Japanese distributor for Gibson
  3. I did have to do some fret leveling to achieve the action I go for on the Sherry PRO II I picked on late last year. The factory action is a bit high for my liking. I also have a Swingster Royal (White) that I guess came from this plant too, got that one back in 2012. no real complaints on that one. they are both pretty good Epi's considerin..
  4. Cobalt strings will not ring out like nickel strings. The magic with cobalt strings is the interaction with the cobalt material in the string and the cobalt material in the alnico magnets.
  5. hey morbe, so I don't know about the roller bridge. I've got 4 guitars with bigsby's only one has the roller bridge (my swingster white royale) I can't really say that I have been hounded by tuning probs on any of them. I do religiously lube the nut, the saddle, and the other "witness" points where the string makes contact with the hardware. (like the 2 tension bars the strings ride over) even if the nut slots are a little too tight, the initial lubing will help calm things down (ime). After about a week or so, the lube will break down a bit, and if you then start to have tuning problems again, it may point to the nut slots as the area that needs to be addressed. if you think the stings may be binding up after using the bar,, give it a tug and see if it it goes back to pitch.
  6. Gibson and the Skillz House folks came to a parting of the ways a while ago. there's supposedly a successor in the works, but there's been nothing posted here so far.
  7. 220volt, nice work on that Rainbow tune by you and your buddy on vocals. I enjoyed that! Good choice! (hard to go wrong with a Rainbow cover as far as I'm concerned!)
  8. I agree with the prices and "improvements" not making a lot of sense. Personally I don't see myself buying anything they've offered in the some of the most best selling models. I'm praying they don't hose up the SJ200 cuz I have my sites set on one in the next year or so if they mess with those, like they have messed with just about everything else, I'll be going used for sure. I used to like the skillshouse too, there were some very good lessons that would pop up now and then. Steve will probably move on some new site, so we'll see how that unfolds. I guess my point was the forum participation here verses dealing with the gibson main site. This forum has loads of knowledge and it's a good place to share ideas and information. I visit other forums but this one is "home"
  9. I think you're sort of throwing out the baby with the bath water. but as you wish..
  10. The skills house, the way we knew it, is no more the topic is already discussed here: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/123931-gibson-guitar-lessons/page__p__1686928__fromsearch__1#entry1686928
  11. ^- I have three acoustics that I play pretty regularly, I change the strings on them about once every 8 or 9 months.. (I started keeping track of the dates of the string change just to see how long they would go..) But they still sound perfect even after all that time, so the strings don't even NEED to go, it's mostly to condition the fretboard and give it a good buffing. They are amazing strings in regard to life span.
  12. I used to use D'Addrio's on acoustics, Till I made the move about 12 years ago to Elixrs. IMO, Nothing beats these for longevity, nothing...
  13. Well,, I guess we were over due for a thread resurrection, after all Easter was just a short time ago. LOL!
  14. a USA Gibson would of course be nitro, not poly, and it stays quite soft and malleable long after other finishes have cured.
  15. stress fracture for sure.. I used to teach a few afternoons a week at a music store. The repair guy (good friend of mine, and at the time, the assistant manager) had a guitar on the bench one afternoon, for some unknown reason, while were where shooting the manure in between lessons, he leaned on it while the neck was elevated on a work pad with a neck rest. CRAAAAAAAACK! Looked just like the one in these pictures...
  16. Luthier is another word for "guy who fixes guitars" and I would also agree to not use GC, they usually just send stuff like this out anyway. (to a luthier! :) ) That looks a bit more serious than a finish crack.
  17. my only Epi's are a hand full of Archtops for example, I think the Broadway's are still MIK afaik.. otho, I know the Swingsters (which are based on the Joe Pass) come from multiple countries of oring. I've got one that came from Indo, and it's really quite nice.
  18. about 15 years ago,, changing the pickups was a foregone conclusion.. today -- not so much... they've come a long way!
  19. Elxir Nanowebs: .12s are my first and only choice. I wont use anything else (I actually like the 100% phospher bronze vs. the 80/20. They don't shred their coating nearly as fast) Cleartone strings: Tried a set, and I like them, I didn't get the hype that they were louder with more output. (maybe I just didn't notice) They lasted a while tho and sounded good. D'Addario coated phosphor bronze: I hated them. They felt sticky, all the time, and they just didn't have a clear ringing tone these other 2 have.
  20. I guess this isn't surprising given the situation you're now facing. probably just at well to let the process ride. she dug the hole, (one of many it would seem). May be it's best to let her figure out how deep she is in by herself. May help her in the long run.
  21. hmm I don't know if there's any legal matters for leaving the keys in the States but I think the issue with Insurance claims may have some complications (if there were any to be filed) re: leaving the keys in the car. Spare keys are always a handy idea!!! said Mr. Obvious it sucks when you come to trust a standard of living and it's ripped to pieces by an irresponsible fool (eg: drunk girl who took the car) oh well... life goes on KS could be worse, nobody got hurt, or wound up dead.
  22. woa, what a train wreck.. she could have "crossed lines" that limits what you can do. DUI is enough to get her arrested in the first place, but stealing a car? isn't that considered Grand Theft (any where?)
  23. Short shaft pots will only work for hardware mounted on a pick guard or control plate, (eg: strat, or tele) you will need long shafts, and you will need to adjust the shaft nuts so that the knobs will look right once you install them.
  24. depends on how old I think the guitar in question is. I put my Planet Waves NS Mini on a (my new at the time) SG, and left it there for a few days. There was some small visible effects from the rubber where the clips touch the guitar, (which I was able to buff out with some Virtuoso polish/cleaner) OTOH, my 95 Standard, I left that tuner on there for a few weeks - totally forgot it was there GASP! but didn't see any impact what so ever.
