the peavy classics were great. especially the 4x10 one another amp that got no real spotlight time but was a very good combo was the Crate Vintage Club 30. Great little amp for the money, the problem was the PCB board design was just prone to failure too bad, I had one loved it, my son still has one... works but the volume pot is messed up..

Sarge is right serial number schemes were all over the place up until about 30 or so years back. you'd have to start pulling pickups out I think to see date stamps, or email Gibson Customer Service?

I'd second the Yamaha advice, that is going to be probably your best bet for the price range you're interested in.

I've learned over time that not all Effects loops are created equal. Serial Loops are a bit easier to dial in. Parallel loops are a bit more complicated to dial in as most of them have a "Blend" control on the amp For these kid of loops, you need to work with the "mix/Blend" on the pedals, in alignment with the blend control on the amp. Usually, I'll set the mix on the effect to 100% Wet then let the blend / mix on the amp determine how much I am letting through, But that can create problems too with loosing out put and changing your over all tone, a lot depends on the pedal. While they are great features, sometimes, they are really hard to get everything set so your happy with the result The rule of thumb I've gone with for a long time now: Time based effects can use the loop (Delays, Modulators, Reverbs) Singal chain effects ex: compressor, boost, OD, volume pedal, looper, I normally would just run in line from Guitar to input. the only other one that I wont put in the loop is a wah pedal

Some of these performers age well. They really are like fine wines, and it seems that they do get better over time. They still got it. Then there's clowns like this guy, who should have hung up the skates a long time ago. These guys simply get worse with age. Good luck to those wasting good money on this looser.

it totally is... setups are personal things we should do what works for us, and our instruments, everyone has a different touch and way they go about things (I still don't think strings making contact behind the saddle matters.... )

I've honestly never notice a bit of difference between the string touching the back of the bridge and not touching. I bought it to the whole thing, and tried it out, spent the time trying to A/B it all, and eventually decided I would just set it back to where the bar usually is set about 1/4 " of the body

My son's got ahigh school friend who has two murphy labs les pauls. he can hold his own playing rythm , blues, classic rock, and he sings great. The back story; he has overcome amazing physical challenges from a car accident about 20/25 years ago. Should have killed him but it didn't Significant head trauma, to the point he had to learn how to, walk, talk and feed himself all over again. Eventually he picked the guitar back up and made his way back. he's back in a cover band with my son and all the guys that played together in high school If you talk to him today you'd never even guess what happened. It's amazing really. So when he showed me his murphy's and I saw the look on that kids face when he handed them to me, that was money in the bank. I could only say "Tino, those are gorgeous"... They were tastefully done, I will admit that. BUT Good lord-- There was over $20k sitting in those 2 cases. but hey If he's happy, and he is, that's all that matters.

it doesn't usually bug me too much either way,, I tend to adapt, but maybe it's just that they are all "close" so I don't really pay much attention to nut spacing on the guitars I have at the house The neck profile -- yea,, that's a big issue for me. Radius, contour, fret height are all make or break details for me getting along with a guitar

I do love playing this big boy. It is the most money I spent on an axe... ever, But, no regrets.

A big plus is the people there are fantastic to work for. it's good to get yourself out there, sometimes it's a bit of work to get a rotation happening. But it's worth it if you enjoy doing it. Good luck!
