She was still carrying out her duties 2 days ago when she met the new Prime Minister.

I was born in 1954 so today is the 1st day of my life that she has not been there.

It is the end of the second Elizabethan age and she will prove to be a very hard - impossible - act to follow.

History pauses for a moment.   This is a HUGE turning point for my country.

I was born in 1948 and remember the Coronation. Parties and games in the large cricket field at the back of our house. She is not gone, she is, and always will be in our hearts and memories. I pledged my allegiance to Her when I joined the police service; that allegiance will never go away.

  2. I have just bought what is advertised as a Custom Shop acoustic guitar from the Custom Historic Collection. It is the 1952 J-185 VSB reissue. I do not see this clearly mentioned in the dating FAQ on the Gibson web site so wondering if anyone can assist please. There is no serial number stamped at the back of the headstock. See attached for details. Thanks.

  3. Has anyone bought one or had a good look at one. I got one a few days ago my mail order and the finish looks like it has been rubbed over with a mild abrasive. Light scuff marks all over the body and a matt finish. I looked at the pics of the one on Thomann web site and that appears to have the same finish. Is this correct or just poor workmanship?

See all pics here and several show the marks:  https://www.thomann.de/gb/gibson_1952_j_185_vintage_sunburst.htm

  4. I sent my original saddle to my tech and he said it was poorly made. The width varied along its length, and was not a good fit. I had a decent bone one made and slightly higher. Now it is great with good volume. I also read somewhere that increasing the break angle can enhance the lower end.

  5. I just bought a Southern Jumbo True Vintage and have tried to decipher the serial number, but am confused. It is 11552011. Also the sn is not stamped on the back of the headstock on this. Great tone from this even with old strings on it. Not sure if factory strings are 11's or 12's. I think Gibson usually fit Masterbuilt Phosphor Bronze strings on acoustics.

    Thanks
